Honest, thoughtful, and caring veterinary clinic with reasonable pricing. Unlike the other practices I have been to they do not push unnecessary testing or treatments and are pragmatic when assessing the situation. This may be due to the fact that they are a private practice and have not been bought out by private equity firms like so many other veterinary practices, so they are not under the same pressure to increase profits. I live in SF and happily drive across the bridge to take both of my dogs here, my only regret is that we did not know about them sooner. Highly recommend. read more

In a short span of time (10 months) I have received care for both beginning and end of life with Mill Valley Pet Clinic. I have been to a few other vets in Marin, and none hold a candle to MVPC. They are warm, clean, accommodating, and gracious caretakers of our (mostly) fur-clad family members. Our puppy has been in wonderful care of the team here and they have been upfront and proactive with scheduling and pricing which we really appreciate. Pets are an investment and this clinic is ran with compassion and integrity. They also helped me with my beloved senior kitty as I navigated her unfortunate decline. Dr. Jessica Hunter has saved Bean's life not once, not twice, but three separate times now in his 12 long years. Most recently, she diagnosed and intensely treated him for Pneumonia that the emergency vet had completely missed over the previous weekend. Within two days of care with Dr. Hunter, he was a new dog, back to running and playing in his yard, after being on death's door, coughing and unable to breathe normally. When Bean was 5 years old, Dr. Hunter discovered and treated an infiltrative lipoma that other doctors had missed. After his surgery, she found us a wonderful physical therapist and made a special ask for them to fit us in, though they weren't taking new clients. She is an absolutely extraordinary vet, always going above and beyond for pets and their families. Moving back to southern marin, i had an opp to see dr. comilla again. I was reminded how kind and patient he is during the office visit. He's gentle with the animals and doesnt rush you through a diagnosis. When I used his services 12 years ago, it during my first experience with a beloved pet passing. They were very gracious with me during a difficult time. They are not the most inexpensive vet I've used but I dont mind as the office is clean, no odors like some others I wont name plus the staff is nice, easy to get an appointment. Initially, we took our dogs to S F Pet Hospital because it was three blocks from our apartment which made visiting the vet extremely convenient. That was until Dr. Hunter joined their staff. We knew as soon as we met her that she was something different. She was one of those rare vets who actually listen and take take time to explain the entire condition and fully detail all available options. She doesn't pressure to select the most expensive option and understands financial restraints. When our dog's heart murmur progressively worsened, we were prepared because Dr. Hunter had taken the time to educate us about the condition and the road ahead during our first visit. As his condition worsened, she suggested we start our dog on a new combination of medications she had read about in the journals. She closely monitored his progression from murmur to congestive heart failure, adjusting his medications along the way. Who knew a dog could live quite happily for seven years with congestive heart failure? I am sure if it were not for Dr. Hunter our dear boy would have never seen his 13th birthday. Years later when she moved to Mill Valley Pet Clinic, we did not hesitate to follow her even though it is much less convenient. Having just returned from this clinic I CANNOT say enough good things about EVERYONE there, and the surgeon who saved my dog's life, Dr. Lisa Alexander. Cancer on one kidney, middle aged Australian Kelpie, and she came through a very difficult surgery in FANTASTIC shape. EVERYONE I dealt with in the office from the receptionist, to the techs, the vets was FANTASTIC. They helped us get her in the car, get her out of the car for her final check up and were so gentle and compassionate with her I was almost teary eyed. She has a relaxed yet razor focused manner about her. She seemed to genuinely CARE about the health and well-being of my dog. She took time to explain what was ailing my pet and detailed how we could bring her back to better health: Clear up the ear infection, keep the teeth in better condition and reduce her weight. I received a curtesy phone call from Dr. Hunter today to check in on my dog and my administration of prescribed antibiotics. She certainly went the extra mile and I really appreciated her follow-up!! I've known Dr Hunter since I moved to SF in 2009 when she worked with Dr Lee Morris of SF Pet Hospital. She is extremely knowledgeable and compassionate. I've taken all my fur babies to her and she's helped navigate everything from getting fixed, to tooth extractions and cleanings, to cancer. Also, I had zero idea what to do or how the process of saying good bye to your furry loved one worked. Dr Hunter guided me through everything in such a caring way. Dr. Charlie and his wonderful staff have been caring for our furkids since 1984. We currently have three rescue hounds. Two of which are very challenging given their backgrounds. The staff and Dr. Charlie take such good care of them, knowing that they are not your run of the mill dogs that are easy to deal with. We are particularly impressed with their care in this era of COVID-19. Charlie calls and lets us know how they are after their exams. All the staff are sensitive and caring. Someone we met in a park recommended Jessica Hunter DVM to us as a great new vet in the area. We went to a vet we loved in San Rafael for 20 years but when he retired a few years ago, VCA took over and we had a bad experience with them so we were looking for a new local vet and we are so happy we found Dr. Hunter. She is awesome and just the kind of vet we were looking for. She was very present, smart and knowledgeable, and she took the time to answer all our questions and explain things in a way that other vets did not. We felt heard and valued when talking to her. We lean more holistic (but also use western medicine when needed) on the treatment of our animals and we were looking for a vet who could be somewhat open minded and have a dialogue about that or at least be respectful of our views or concerns around this and we feel like she was. I have a lot of compassion for vets in the area that have been under tremendous stress through covid with higher case loads than normal and we have felt and experienced the stress of that filtering down to us as customers from office staff and vets that we have seen in the last couple of years. We did not feel this stress at Mill Valley Pet Clinic though and that was so refreshing! What a difference it made to call the front desk and have someone actually be friendly and nice to us and take the time to answer our questions without being irritated and impatient with us. So nice! Dr. Hunter and her staff made us feel welcomed, safe, valued, and comfortable, and like we were not a bother to them, both on the calls before our apt and during our apt. Going to the vet for your beloved animal is already so stressful so just having someone be nice to you while you are there makes such a big difference. I also really appreciate that this is a small private practice and not a big conglomerate vet like VCA where it feels so impersonal and all about upselling you. What a great new experience going to the vet! Our last dog who was young passed away in the fall, had a mysterious illness that no one could figure out so we had been to quite a few vets in the area in the last year dealing with that and this is by far the best vet experience we have had that I can remember. I wish we would have found Dr. Hunter when we were going through that, but I am so happy we can start our new puppy out with a vet that we like and feel comfortable with. My dog has been going to Dr Jessica Hunter since 2017, when I moved to SF, my dog was 11 years young, and Dr Hunter was at SF Pet Hospital. We have been with Dr Hunter through dental cleaning/tooth extractions, two torn ACLs and subsequent TPLO surgeries, and we are now navigating lymphoma treatment together. That's a lot of stuff to go through! And at each step, Dr Hunter has been there as a knowledgeable, responsive, caring, and thorough doctor and advocate for my dog. I've never felt alone or unprepared in navigating decisions and medical care for my dog. That certainty and trust is so important in choosing a vet, who will support your pet for their lifetime. For the speciality care that we've needed (boarded surgeons for tumor removal, orthopedic surgeon for ACL tears, and oncologists), she goes above and beyond in helping us get access to the best care possible as soon as possible. And Dr Hunter collaborates seamlessly with the specialty doctors to make sure my dog is both ready for and recovers quickly from any procedure. When I moved to SF from the South Bay, I had consultation appointments with several vets both in and out of the city, because it was the first time my dog needed care beyond regular vaccines. I must have talked to 6 veterinary practices just about getting my dog's teeth cleaned. I chose Dr Hunter, because she was the most transparent and communicative with me and was very gentle with my dog. With everything we've been through in the years since, she continues to provide better care than I could hope for. I brought my puppy to Mill Valley Pet clinic to be neutered, and I was very disappointed with his care. They asked me to bring him early in the morning because they needed to run blood work first (which is standard to make sure a dog is fit for anesthesia and surgery). I found out later that they never did any blood work, because I called the office a few months later to ask for the records (the blood test results) and they looked at his record and said that none were done. That seems really negligent, to do surgery without running those tests first. And they had specifically told me that they would. Also, when I picked him up from surgery, there was no instruction sheet for after-care, and I received conflicting verbal instructions from the staff. (Dr. Hunter who had done the surgery did not make an appearance.) When they brought him out, he was eager to go home but they made me wait a long time because they were confused about the bill and how much I owed. No one told me whether he needed to come back to have his stitches removed (or whether they were the dissolvable kind), and when I called the next day to ask, as well as to ask for clarification about his after-care (when is it ok to start going for walks, etc), I left a message and no one ever called me back. Then I called again and spoke with someone who did not know and said they would get back to me, which they never did. Finally, around 6 days after the surgery, he licked at the wound when I wasn't looking, and I found a stitch poking out. Then I was finally able to reach someone who told me to bring him in and they would snip it off. I think it was one of the vet assistants who did snipped it off, and she seemed very rushed and there was a lack of any sense of care or concern about how he was doing post-surgery. That stitch is still poking out, three months after the surgery. It is a thick plastic type of thread that must be quite uncomfortable. I don't want to go back to Mill Valley Pet Clinic though. I don't trust them. I will wait until I can get in to see my regular vet. Moral of the story: Avoid this place. read more

The day after we had to evacuate from the fire 2 years ago, we spent the next day trying to find food, medical attention and medications for my elderly dogs. We were clients of this practice. Dr. Hunter referred their "Practice Manager", now "owner" as a trainer for our puppy, not once, but twice. Nicole Snebold's Pawsitive Training Business Card was handed to us twice by Dr. Hunter and again, by a Vet Tech. My boyfriend questioned this referral as a conflict of interest, and after 4 months of canceled and reschedule training sessions due to her personal drama, we learned that these "referrals are a way for the Practice Manager to buy into the Practice to become an 'owner'." Once we called Nicole, we PRE-Paid her for 7 training sessions, with the 8 th session free. We ultimately fired the trainer prior to using all of our sessions due to a lack of accountability, personal drama, cancelled sessions. Once we released this trainer, we requested a refund of our unused, pre-paid sessions ($180.00) and have not received the refund yet, after almost a month and several requests. since Nicole stopped returning calls or texts, and upon calling the Mill Valley Pet Clinic and leaving a message with their receptionist, Katherine, we were told that Nicole Snebold (N.S.), (the "owner", "Practice manager" and "Trainer", " runs her own business separate from the Clinic". Really? After referring? We reminded the receptionist that Dr. Hunter referred Nicole as a trainer, not once, but Twice! So, now, we have left the Practice and have found a responsive and responsible Vet, and will need to take Nicole Snebold to Marin County Small Claims Court to get our money back. Lessons learned ~~~ our pup has learned more in 1 session with a new trainer and while we were taken advantage of by Nicole Snebold, who is not a credentialed trainer, nor accountable to Clients - (her method of collecting Pre-payments is a side gig so that she can "buy" into the Practice), we have faith that others will be saved from this horrible experience. Mill Valley Pet clinic took care of my Frenchie's health for the past 10 years( Dr Comella) and over that time we built a relationship of trust. On Sunday night, my dog was breathing heavier and I brought him in hoping to see the vet that I have grown to trust over the years. Monday morning, when I brought him in and he was seen by Dr Andrew Lie. his response to Woodgy's health seemed to lack any true concern for his well being and the care he received was unsatisfactory compared to the care received here in the past. Woodgy was there from 8am-12pm. The only conversation I had with the doctor was when he called to ask if he can take Xrays to confirm absorption pneumonia to which I agreed. His tone on the phone was more jokingly than serious.Dr Lie DID NOT TALK TO ME after the Xrays were taken, nor when I picked up my dog. I asked if Woodgy threw up while in their care, response was yes, then I asked if it was before or after the antibiotic was administered by mouth and no one knew the answer which was of great concern to me. I asked if I should give another dose and they advised I wait until the next day. Upon coming to pick him up, no follow up visit or DIRECTIONS were recommended other than to continue the antibiotic. When my dog was admitted I let them know which medications he was currently on, one of which was Pepcid. I later read that one of the contradictions to the antibiotic Orbax they prescribed was Pepcid. Which was another oversight on their part. On Wednesday, I've called to check how long it should take to notice a difference with the antibiotics because Woodgy was not showing any signs of improvements.Dr Lie was not there so Kathryn checked for me with the Dr that was there and she advised me that he needed to go to the emergency vet if he was not showing signs of improvements withing 24 hours of being discharged. UNFORTUNATELY THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I HEARD THIS BECAUSE IT WAS NOT COMMUNICATED WHEN HE WAS DISCHARGED.Also, when I picked him up I've asked if Woodgy got any IV-S to which the tech guy answered Dr did not thing they are needed. I was also doing at home for Woodgy sauna, nebulization and coupage ( Not to their suggestion the last two). I took Woodgy to emergency on Wed and they did everything right- oxygen tank, IV antibiotic, Xrays, and liquids BUT IT WAS EVERYTHING TOO LATE. My Everything passed away that night. Dr Lie- I"VE NEVER IN MY LIFE BEEN TO THE VETERINARIAN AND NOT HAVE A DISCUSSION WITH THE DOCTOR ABOUT THE DIAGNOSIS AND NEXT STEPS. Your sense of urgency for Woodgy's health was INEXCUSABLE and INEXISTENT. You did not provide Woodgy the medical attention needed and left me with NO COMMUNICATION whatsoever. For anyone reading this review, my advice to you is please find another veterinarian to avoid to go through what Woodgy and I went through. read more

Smart Man. Its always a tuffie when you need your vet - your there because a family member is sick (mostly) and its not exactly free - but never look for a deal when buying a parachute. I was talked into another Vet - because my uncles sisters brothers cousins insisted I use 'their' Vet. I had used Dr. Charles before and knew he was knowledgeable and I trusted his advice. That dog has since passed to doggie heaven - no ones fault but in my opinion things could have been handled better by Dr Comilla - and he has the compassion of a Nun. Anyway new puppy is here and I've gone back to Mill Vill and will be there for life ! read more

Worst Vet experience I have ever had. My dog needed to see a Vet as soon as possible because of actively bleeding gums. I saw the positive yelp reviews and chose MVPC. The doctor spent 5 minutes looking at my Dog and basically told me that "it doesnt look good" " sorry" and that there is nothing he could do except run some ex rays or teats and prescribe antibiotics. He didnt even try to help fix the problem, and took my 100$ after spending five minutes making an assessment. Next day I took my dog to VCA and they did blood work, prescribed him medicine to stop the bleeding and are taking a better approach to the situation while also providing more options to treat the illness. I honestly felt like it was a total waste of time and money taking my dog to MVPC. read more
