Just had my haircut this morning. The place has changed a little. Carlos cut my hair, very happy with the much needed mowing. This is my barbershop. I've been coming here for the last 7 or 8 years, after trying all the other barbers in Lompoc, Vandenberg Village, and on the Air Force Base, too. The low Yelp scores given by the other idiots really bug me; Modern Barber deserves a better score. This is an old-fashioned, no-nonsense main street barbershop. Joyce (the owner) is great; Lee (the quiet older guy) is great, too. I have NEVER had any problems with any cut from these wonderful people. Every $15 haircut from them has been perfect-- and I usually get a different cut every time I visit! Really; not long ago I had a shaped, 1/8 inch cut all around, blocked neck, thinned sideburns (I have a full beard). Before that I had a flat-top; usually I get a trim and shaped cut, barely comb-able length. It's right every time. Modern Barber has a "call ahead" reservation system. Phone them, ask for your number and how long to wait, then show up when they tell you. Perfect system. All you foolish fashionistas from Santa Barbara or Westwood or Brentwood, keep on paying $85 for your razor-cuts with rose water. I'll stick to my $15 clipper and scissor cuts from Lee. read more

This was the worst place to go my boyfriend needed a haircut and first right when we went in it was dirty there was hair everywhere I understand it's a barber shop but it was so much from multiple people built up He couldn't hear what my boyfriend said when he asked for a fade to a 2 I don't think he even knew what a fade was he messed up the haircut at first and barely cut (I should of told my bf not to inform him so he would at have hair for someone else to fix) then when we let him know he shaved most of his including cutting the hair the on top when my boyfriend specifically said not to the barber seemed like he was struggling to see and to even stand the whole time and basically gave my boyfriend a short bowl cut I would not recommend honestly 0 stars the best thing was getting a refund read more

On the upside, they used cream & straight razor for the edges, and they were friendly enough, but.. the line in front was crooked, and as soon as I turned around my wife said: "OH! I'm going to have to clean up the back for you". Not the result I'd expect, especially for $15. The barbering extras are nice touches, but they lack the basic clipper skills that are requisite of a professional barber. I certainly will not be returning. read more

Most horrible barber shop I've ever been to. I didn't want to drive to Santa Maria, were my barber is, due to me now working in the area locally. So I thought I would give them a try. Bad idea. I wanted skin to mid fade. Instead I got a number 1 mid fade, and one side is higher faded!!Now I have to go to to my barber on sat and have him fix it. The man didn't even use a fade clip. He used the same clip with a comb. Wtf? Not to mention the rusty old clippers were scolding hot against my head. Save your money, don't go here. read more

I haven't been here in awhile, however I started coming here when I was five. I have been meaning to come back and thought I'd check the reviews. I tell you right now the haircut I got today was absolutely perfect. She even trimmed the long hair on my eyebrows. I have been coming here for 30 years... it will be another 30 more. I've take my boys to salons in SB, kid haircut places in Santa Maria, and to places all over Lompoc, and this place is by far the best. The barbers listen and understand what you want and can do any style. They are friendly and professional and my little boys always have a great time there. read more

Worst haircut I've had , I would not suggest going here . There is a reason the chairs are empty.

So, I'm pretty particular about getting a haircut. I am in the military and I have to be within regulations, so on the advice of a friend, I went here to get a quick cut. They were nice and actually pulled a number for me when I called in so that when I showed up, I was immediately seated; although, I don't think that mattered because there were no waiting customers and one barber had an empty chair (first warning sign). So, I get seated with the older white-haired gentleman and ask for a 2 on top and low taper on the sides and back. He was cutting for awhile as though he was having trouble. He certainly was. I looked in the mirror while he was cutting and wondered when he was going to start the fade (starting to sweat). Well, he loosened the cape to shave the neck hairs (sign that the cut was soon over) so I got a little more nervous. Low and behold, he was done and I was left with what looked like a bowl cut--no fade, definite line. I had to leave so I just left after cuz there wasn't much he could do to fix it. When I got in my truck, I looked in the mirror to see that there were numerous long hairs on top that he missed; I went back in to at least get that fixed. However, by this time he had a customer in his seat so I left after five minutes of waiting. Needless to say, I went home, shaved my head and realized I just wasted 30 minutes of my time and $20 of my hard earned pay. Long story short, it was the worst haircut I've had in a long time. I don't know about the other barbers but if this guy got a job there, I wonder about the rest of their staff. read more

They don't have barber shops like this anymore! I grew up getting my haircuts here, and only left due to convenience of location. As said before me, everyone has their favorite here. I must add that I have only had a few barbers in my lifetime that I could trust. 2 of them are from here! That's why I'm back :) read more
