I think most of the (5-star) Yelp reviews for this shop date back to the previous owner and barber, Don, and I think the new owner (Robert) has had the shop now for a year or two. I've known the "new guy" for about 20 years and I can say he is a great barber. Fair prices, skilled haircuts, friendly and professional. It is my belief that the Village Barber Shop should retain its current 5-star rating. Highly recommended; give this place a try if you need a cut or trim for your hair or beard. read more

I've been coming to see Don for haircuts when I moved into town three years ago, and will continue to do so until I have to leave. He consistently delivers outstanding haircuts and conversation. I was privileged to have Don give my boy his first haircut, and he was great working with such a wiggly kid. Located on the far side of the Village Shopping Center, the barber pole is set outside when he is open for business. I highly recommend either making an appointment during the appointment days, or being the first at the door on non-appointment days, although there have been times that the non-appointment days are slower than others. Keep in mind that the DoD folks are paid on the 1st and 15th of the month, so plan accordingly. If you need a haircut on-the-fly and his available appointments don't match your tight schedule (because Don is that much in demand), I recommend "The Barbershop" in Lompoc because they always have a stand-by barber doing walk-ins. read more

I've always received an EXCELLENT haircut from Don, and I've never heard anything but positive feedback from my friends and colleagues who frequent his place. What a wonderful experience! Yes, the quality of haircut is important, but the experience is important as well. Don gives a great haircut and he's very efficient, too. He's incredibly personable and you can't help but feel at home in his chair. He's very confident and he's a master at his craft; watching him work is a pleasure and his customers are happy with the results. I've been other places where the haircut is okay and it's obvious that the folks cutting did their best. Don has decades of experience and it really shows. The barber shop is a neat little place and he has books and toys to keep little ones entertained. He's thought of just about everything and the little touches are appreciated. Speaking of appreciation, I want to mention that Don offers discounts for active duty military. As a veteran, I sincerely appreciate those who recognize and care for our service members. Don is closed Sundays and Mondays. Tuesdays and Saturdays he takes walk-ins; Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays he works by appointments and is usually booked solid. He's great and in the future, I'll be going to him for all my haircuts. I'm impressed enough that if he's booked and I can't get in right away, I'll wait until he has an opening rather than going elsewhere. Thanks, Don, and keep up the good work! read more

What a fantastic barber! I've been coming here for years and Don is always in a great mood and gives a great haircut! If there is a negative (besides him being a Boston sports fan) is that he sometimes cuts your hair too short. I'm ok with it, as I like to have short hair. He is the best in town! Check him out! Update: 7/5/2018. Don has added another barber named Robert. I'm so excited that now during walk in days, I will be able to get out of there a bit faster! This is as good as it gets! Don, hands-down gave me the best haircut I've had in my 26 years of existence on this planet. He is a conventional barbershop with all the old-school perks. Old vintage barbershop chairs, straight-edge clean up, and the personality that accompanies such an old time tradition. Don is a great guy that genuinely loves what he does. Best barber on the central coast...maybe, THE WORLD. Don has been cutting my hair since I was a wee lad back in Goleta. When he left the city, I was lost... Low and behold I move to Lompoc, and ran into him in town! Been back with him since 2000 and enjoy every visit. Don is a true professional at what he does in every aspect of the meaning. While I have only received and seen him give fairly simple haircuts, and good ones at that, the experience does not end there. Like most barbers, the Village Barber Shop can be spotted with the help of the Barber's Pole out front. Unlike most barbers however, Don is well rehearsed in the history of the profession and gladly shares the meaning of the barber's pole to anyone who asks as well -I just wish I could remember half of it. The shop itself is quite a spectacle of local history: pictures of various missiles launched from VAFB, aerial photos of the surrounding area over the years, and of course a live size cut-out (might actually be a poster, I do not fully remember) of Larry Bird. The last thing you will notice before leaving Village Barber Shop is Don's antique cash register. Sorry, no cards accepted here, so be sure to bring cash. Oh yeah, and he also does old fashioned shaves (though not listed as a regularly offered service) by request too. There is a reason why barbers typically do not do this anymore -has to do with Mr. Gillette, but I won't ruin the story for you. In summary, go to Village Barber Shop to get cleaned up and educated all in one go. read more

Still, he comes highly recommended and I hear good things about his service so I tried again a couple years later to make another appointment. Nope, still rude. Don is a great guy. An old fashioned barber that knows everyone's name. I bring my son in every other Tuesday and Don is very good with him! Tuesday's and Saturday's are walk-in days and the rest are reserved for appointments. He is closed on Sunday's and Monday's. Also, Don is cash only. read more

I called on Wednesday for a haircut and was unable to get in for a haircut as the appointments were stacked. That in my experience has been a good sign. The gentlemen that answered was Don and stated he had an available spot at 440 on the following day. I took it. 28 hours later I find this little old timey barber shop with all sorts of nostalgic photos and real barber shop paraphernalia. Don was a happy guy and was very engaging in conversation. I asked for a high fade and skin on the side. He used a shavette to clean up the neck and ear areas and made me look better than I did when I strolled in. It was great to have a good guy chat rather than attempting to relate to a girl fresh out of "beauty school" or some fruit happy to be touching another dude and getting paid for it. Don is a truly trained barber going through a real barber training school for 9 months and has been giving better looking domes since the seventies (I am not family or a paid person to post this, I gathered this information while talking to Don). I now have a dependable barber when I am forced to spend additional time in the Lompoc area. Thanks Don! read more

It was a slight chore to find (around back of the shopping center) but DEFINITELY worth it. I drove out of my way, avoiding other barber shops in Lompoc, just to visit the Village Barber Shop. He goes "old school" and still uses a straight razor around the ears and back of the neck! Tomorrow is Veteran's Day and I will be visiting Mr. Don despite the free hair cuts given to military at other establishments. You can find me in his chair every two weeks! He accepts walk ins every Tuesday and Saturday but be ready to wait (I got lucky and was the only one in the shop at 7 am) because he is quite popular. I agree with the other reviewers completely... and there should definitely be more of them. Don gives a great haircut-- with scissors, not an electric razor-- for a reasonable price, and is a really fun guy to talk to while he works. I recently moved from Lompoc to Santa Barbara, and I like Don's haircuts so much that I still make the two-hour round trip to his shop. Highly recommended. read more

Don is the man!!! I recently relocated to Lompoc, had to spruce up for a job interview, and was really nervous about letting someone new cut my hair. I saw the Village Barber Shop was the only place with a 5 star review on Yelp so I decided to give it a shot. After meeting Don and letting him work his magic, I fully understand why the people who provided ratings were so enthusiastic about this place. He is extremely personable and very skilled at his craft. I left his shop with a big stupid grin on my face and realized that I had just found my new barber.
