Long story short... Honest, on time and customer friendly. Refreshing to work with a company that truly has your needs in mind. About 3 weeks ago a weather system came through town and took down a section of my Privacy fence. 4 posts had snapped below ground level at the concrete base. The fence panels were not damaged and were reusable. This was a pretty simple diy fix except for the fact that the downed section ran right along the utility easement and I did not want to take the hit if I accidentally cut a power, cable or telephone line. After checking reviews on yelp I decided to call in another company. That company made an appointment to come out and check out the damage and write up an estimate for me. Their estimator didn't show the first time and I had to call them back and set another appointment. He did show for the 2nd appointment and proceeded to tell ME what I wanted. I won't get into details here about that company but you can read my review of them on yelp under fence repair/replacement. So I called Modern Fence and Jim came out that day. Jim looked at the fence and said "All you need is 4 new posts. We will remove the panels, dig out the old posts and replace them with new posts and reset the existing panels." I said that's exactly what I want and he gave me a verbal price on the spot with a promise to follow up with a written (signed) estimate. I got the estimate that night via email and responded with a signed agreement. Jim gave me a time frame and showed up on time with his helper and they did the work in about 3 hours. Don't be an idiot like me and use modern fence! I fell for their advertisements and forgot to ask around about what kind of reputation they had. In my experience, modern fence contracted my fence out and the folks that did my fence used concrete nails in my cedar wooden fence. This was an 1100 foot Residential picket fence. They used very little concrete in the posts and after two years my fence is falling down every day. Most of my posts were not set with any concrete whatsoever. My wood is rotted out. I am a physician in Fort Smith and we needed a rather pricey($4,400), custom fence put into our backyard. I had the fence put in a little over 2 weeks ago and I have waited to post a review until the company (Modern fence) had ample time to make this situation right, but they refused. We had 3 estimates done for a white PVC fence. When the cost for that material more than doubled the price, I asked them to run the numbers again for a white wood fence. Modern came in the lowest, but they also told me that the arbor I had asked for would cost extra and would be done at a later date. They never stated that a cost would be added for paint or stain. ACE fence stated on the estimate that we could have a 3rd walking gate and the arbor included in the cost but the paint would be an extra $690. The modern fence estimate did not state an added cost for paint. The fence was put up and I received an invoice. I stated, "You said to pay when it's completed, but the fence has yet to be painted." To which they replied that the paint was never part of the estimate and that would be an extra $970! After several days of back and forth discussion, the manager said he would be willing to paint it at cost ($690). I found it strange that ACE would turn a profit at $690, but modern "discounted it" to $690. I held onto my check for 2 weeks in the hopes that they would change their mind and paint the fence as was the original agreement, but they refused. They even contacted me several times to ask if I had sent my payment. Please look elsewhere when buying a fence. Modern is all about getting their money and not concerned with client satisfaction. We have lived in Fort Smith for 4.5 years now. We have dealt with several contractors and sub-contractors. We have been let down more times than I care to share on this review. The only contractor we have dealt with that I would use again is Lee with Lee's flooring who did an amazing job and whose final bill was only half what he estimated! read more

Had Modern Fence come out and repair their own work on the gate of an existing fence built prior to the purchase of my home. It looked good but a couple of weeks later, the wind blew one of the gates and two panels off the posts. No other panels were affected, just the ones they repaired. Don't trust them to do a reliable job. read more

Not a happy customer of Modern Fence. Has several issues and was told what was going to be done on my invoice and they went back on their word.Paid half of money up front and to continue to call them to get started after being told job would be completed in 2 weeks, took 4. Work was semi-ok, got several gaps between boards and a gap of about 3 inches on a 8 ft gate and had 1 board not even nailed in. Seems nobody check the work after completion. Would not recommend to friends of mine. read more
