I've taken classes with Tony, Mira, Casey, Adam, and Cory. All of whom have been phenomenal. They also offer virtual kettlebell classes at noon, and a wide array of online courses like mobility, fundamental bjj and so fourth. Class sign up is through Mindbody with a few different beginner friendly options depending if you're interested in martial arts, strength training, or kettlebells. There are also on site physical therapists who are able to assist you in your fitness journey. All the coaches are incredibly skilled with different strengths, I really appreciate the emphasis on technique to improve my strength and form through out my time there. Even on days I couldn't be physically there and was able to still be adjusted via zoom. I also really appreciate their pause program. My schedule can be quite chaotic at times so you're able to freeze your membership for a month for $25 and have the opportunity to take two classes during that time. (I noticed another review mentioning this, but left out that detail) Which is quite generous still since it's less than their drop in fee. In comparison to other gyms I still love what a mix of body types and gender there is when training Jiu jitsu, you don't realize how rare it is till you've gone to multiple gyms. At the moment gi is done the 1st-19th and the 20th to the end of the month is no gi. I particularly got invested in Jiu jitsu during the pandemic and there has been some great focus on self defense which I really appreciate during the current state of the world. I'm terms of the set up of the gym (which is throughly discussed on the website). You're able to come trial martial arts for a reduced cost as listed on the website. If you'd like to try out the strength and condition classes, weightlifting, or kettlebells; there is an on ramp program that you can do for 30 days in the evening. It's a program where they teach you all the techniques that will be used in class & you test your weights assess which weights will be best for you during class. Therefore during classes it's more about honing in technique and applying skill onto knowledge you've already built. I appreciate this concept as it really speeds up productivity and the community is so helpful to assist you and cheer you on when you're still learning. Cannot put more emphasis on how incredibly amazing this community has been to grow with. Still such a gem, with people who propel you further in life. It's amazing to work out with such highly motivated individuals and continue to grow.

I am sure no one cares about the back story, but hopefully this buys my review of this gym a little credibility. As indicated, I gave this gym a perfect rating. I have been going here for 16 months now, but rather than just riff on it aimlessly, I figured I could do a little "might be for you" versus "might not be for you" listing: Do not go to this gym if: * You like huge classes with like a 20 to 1 student to coach ratio * You think it is important for everyone in the class to do the same workout * You want to just pile on a whole bunch of weight and let the technique work itself out * You are really just interested in bro culture * You like getting hugged * You are really in the market for a social club * The most important thing is the outfit you wore * You have an aversion to prime numbers Do go to this gym if: * You really want to become a better weightlifter * You would prefer it if the coach tailored the workout to the sorts of things you need to work on * You like 90's Top 40 music * You think equipment should be functional, not just shiny * You like an unspoken sense of community and inclusion * Entropy is not your friend * You like pen and paper * You want to choose the workout programming that is best for you Look, some people like hype. Some people want to wait 2.5 hours for brunch at the hypest joint in the neighborhood. But other people, they just want to go to the spot that makes them a better, fitter person. She told me when I was doing it right (helpful!) and found new exercises to challenge me. She also showed me resources that I could use to continue to progress in Olympic Lifting. Jay checked to make sure he was not telling me stuff I already knew. He also provided clear enhancements to proper Oly form. Both Erin and Jay found a way to meet each person in the class where they were with a wonderful spirit of focus and joy. And both led a warmup targeting common areas of stiffness (shoulder, pec, hip). Love this place and will be back.

Now in my forties, I need to remain active. I went to a Yelp event and by default, I won free foundations classes and a one month membership. I had never done crossfit. Enter a little energized sparkplug by the name of Alex, and you have Mt Tabor CrossFit's reason for being. She is encouraging, positive and great at correcting your form. I have always been used to isolated workouts, so getting used to circuit training is a bit different but, so far I've adapted well. It's high intensity, short duration that trains you to be a well-rounded athlete, hence the name Crossfit. Alex is a little fire-cracker of a coach and she's wonderful at explaining the movements, I love the support I get from Alex plus cheers from fellow classmate! The workouts can seem intimidating but it is modified to your fitness level ... If you are looking for a challenge and see what your limits are, this may be the place worth checking out, it is a very competitive environment but you are mostly competing against yourself.

I went to my first class and didn't love it. It was too intense and my body couldn't handle it. I used to do functional fitness training and absolutely loved how strong it made me, but after having a baby, my body just wasn't the same and I knew I would be risking injury if I continued. Unfortunately I also came down with a cold the day after my first class (thanks to my baby) and I only had a week left of the 21 day challenge by the time I felt better. So I asked the owner for a refund (and told him Id even be happy to pay for the one class I attended and he could give me a partial refund). I am a fair person and didn't want to take advantage by asking for all my money back since I knew it cost them some time to deal with me signing up, etc. He told me he would extend me an extra week but would not give me a refund. After I explained that I did not actually want to workout there again, because it was not a good fit for me, he explained his ridiculous scam of a refund policy and quit answering my texts. The policy is that even if you hate it, you have to go to a minimum of 3 classes per week for each week of the 3 weeks in order to get your money back if you don't like it. If you get sick, too bad. If you get injured, too bad. If you decide Olympic style lifting isn't your thing, well, that's ok- just do it 8 more times to prove to yourself how much you hate it and then you'll get your money back. As you know, it's pretty ludicrous to ask someone to engage in an activity they dislike 9 times in order to prove that they dislike it. If you're really not into eggplant for example, are you really going to eat a plateful of eggplant 8 more times, just to make sure? I hope nobody else falls for this scam. This is a crappy way to treat someone who wants to try out your gym. I could have just paid a drop in fee and not left almost $100 on the table. Take your money elsewhere, to a place where they won't take advantage of you and will treat you fairly.

A couple weeks later, not only was my husband NOT refunded his $375.00...I was then charged $145.00 for a monthly fee that I did NOT sign up for or agree to. ( The $145.00 was reversed when I disputed it) AFTER Chuck Gonzalez threatened me via email saying he would sue me for an annual contract if I dispute the $375.00 charge/ refund that was due my husband. Chuck is a CHEAT. Bad business. I disputed and was credited back. . He just said he provided the service which is not accurate but CC credited him back. Then me aain. Then him again. I am still fighting this. He knows he is in the wrong. The advertisements claimed this was twice a year, limited number of people. However, he was adding new "transformations" each and every week. Nutrition plan was 1 piece of paper w only difference being 2 cups veggies more for husband. No recipes. Had to ask about food all the time. My Zone belts ( he told us his friend owns company) never worked correctly. Several in class could not get them to workWorthless. Very disappointing when you are starting a program and do want to see the measurements. Day to day at gym- Chuck had off and on days. Has favorites. Some amazing clients who coached us sometimes and were very nice. Coach Rachel - amazing! Some days Chuck would be approachable. Other days not. Very disorganized. I liked learning crossfit but would never go back here. Chuck needed money for remodel and that was his priority. Too bad as there were some nice people and Rachel should open her own gym. Definitely the early embodiment of the…read moreearly CrossFit boxes with the DIY touches, where you could tell Wally had his hand in every aspect of the gym. His coaching style was positive, upbeat, and had a critical eye on your technique without without calling you out in front of the class. He really cared to make sure you didn't have any prior injuries before lifting or doing the WOD, and rotated through the students giving enthusiastic support during the workout. Definitely glad we were able to drop in for a couple of workouts while we were visiting family, and will be back when we're in the area again. Thanks again, Wally!

Wally is a good coach and provides support to all levels of students without judgment. The best part is the down-to-earth vibe. The banter and camaraderie among the Hillsdale crossfitters are entertaining and welcoming. It is unusual to find a gym where you can work out and make friends at the same time. If you cannot move your own body correctly, you certainly have no right to pile a bunch weight lifting on top of that. The trainers at EFL know this and are exceptional at teaching you how to move and will absolutely tailor your workout to you. There are no canned routines here. What I love most about their approach is that they turn your workout into play. You will crawl and roll on the ground, hang from bars, walk with a bean bag on your head, skip, swing clubs and kettle bells. And you workout bare foot or in socks. I love it!! Lyndi was my first CrossFit coach, back when CF PFB was a garage box in Yelm, WA. She started me…read moreoff so well that I was able to step right into a bigger box when she and co-owner/husband, Ben, moved to Oregon. Due to the driving distance being "only" 2.5 hours, I went to their current box once for a memorial WOD, in August, 2013. The facility is spacious and the equipment new. The layout is well-planned and efficient. There is only one restroom, but I never saw anyone waiting in line ;) They have a challenging 800m run course that goes uphill! Coaching is fantastic. I didn't work out under Ben too much back in their garage box, but he provided me with the support and positive critiques on my visit here, that I expect from CrossFit coaching. He's very motivational and yet cognizant of physical limitations (I have a bad shoulder). Lyndi is still as great a coach as always, too. She has a way of inspiring more effort, just when I think I can't do any more. After giving me the basics, she has continued to applaud my progress on Facebook - a friend as well as a coach. :) Community - as I said, I was only here once for a memorial WOD, but I met several people who were friendly and encouraging, cheering for each other (and me). I would imagine they are like that with their fellow athletes on a regular basis. I wish I had been able to go WOD with Lyndi and Ben more, but will always be thankful for their introduction to CrossFit that set me on a lifelong path of functional fitness. If you have never tried CrossFit, don't short yourself - go do it! Someone might look at me, a 58-year-old woman with a bad shoulder, and not think it advisable to do such extreme workouts. The key is in the coaching! The key is in how CrossFit can be scaled to give the best results for each individual, no matter your fitness level, age, or physical limitations. I am a good 50+ pounds overweight so going to the gym has never been pleasant, I am a little self conscious. I get a great workout every time I go here and I enjoy it a lot.
