There is also another theme of seeking alternative protein sources due to the greenhouse emissions-related challenges of raising animals for meat, which was intriguing. That being said, this museum is not for squeamish folks, as right as you enter, you can smell the scent of various smell exhibits in the distance, including heavily fermented cheeses and pickled herring. The museum admission ticket is in fact a barf bag! The museum layout is well-structured, with a set walking sequence of various exhibits including actual food in a case, videos, and sample smell exhibits. While there are some "classic" foods such as durian, century egg, pickled herring, and fermented shark, I did find some foods intriguing to be there, including Twinkies (because of the preservatives) and an Italian maggot cheese. At the end, you are welcome to do the bingo card delicacy and spice test challenge. The foods ranged from various insects to Swedish saurkraut juice ("pizza juice") but the toughest ones for me were the sequence of fermented shark, pickled herring, and then salted licorice. The licorice really caught me off guard--nothing like Twizzlers. Right after it is the hot sauce challenge to get those flavors out, which surprisingly starts with the Hot Ones Last Dab (!) and ends with a Carolina Reaper extract. I completed all the challenges, so I got to spin the wheel which has both prizes and punishments! The staff really make this place special though. They are very welcoming and did a fantastic job on our culinary food tour in the food challenge while also fostering community with fellow visitors. Completing the challenge with our spontaneously made group is a memory I'll have forever! Definitely consider making a trip to Malmo for this museum as we did--it is definitely more than worth it!

If you somehow manage to eat all 32, you get to spin a wheel and win a prize, plus bragging rights and possibly a stronger stomach than most. The hosts are super friendly and do a great job explaining what you're about to smell, taste, or regret. I was honestly shocked by how crowded it was, clearly a lot of people are curious about fermented fish, bugs, and things that should probably stay sealed forever. Gross, fascinating, educational, and oddly fun. Definitely not your average museum, and that's exactly the point. If you want to be surprised, maybe don't look at my pics and vids.

The Malmo Konstall is one of the largest modern art exhibition spaces in Europe. I went as part of Malmo Nordic 2013 to see "24 Spaces - A Cacophony", which featured quite a few non-commercial artists. The exhibition itself was great, but I also really enjoyed the exhibition space spread out over one sprawling floor. Also notable: a totally respectable English book selection in the store and a charming lunch spot / outdoor cafe. The vibe is relaxed; you can take your time or whizz through things, both models without judgment. Just how I like to take in my dose of art. Yelp note: a lot of construction around the Konsthall currently (summer 2013) but be persistent! It's harder to see the signage, but worth the persistent effort.

This place is very cool. Perfect museum to take the kids…read more It's a technical museum, so there is an entire section of just cars. However, I spent most of my time in the submarine. There is one entrance and one exit to the submarine. It's not until you step inside that you realize why. You get to go through a real submarine. It is super tight due to all the equipment. You have to slide into the small, round entranceways from one section to the other. Some adults didn't go all the way to the end because it felt like it was getting narrower and narrower. As you can imagine, not too many people can be inside at once. There is also the front section of an old train you can step into and take pictures in. It's the perfect museum to take the entire family to. I enjoyed my time here.

The art museum wasn't the greatest or my favorite. But I always love checking them out. The natural history portion on the other hand was really cool, even as a grown up. Lots of interesting specimens and displays, fun interactive areas, lots of information. Add to those things the castle...and it really can't be beat. Inexpensive with something for everyone. If you are in Malmo, even for just a day, stopping at these museums should be high on your list.

Exhibits are informational without being boring; some offering opportunity to interact. This museum seems to be quite popular with primary school aged children and can get packed. During our visit on a weekday afternoon, children were running about, carrying on loudly, and wreaking havoc. Malmohus Slott and Teknisca Museet admission is shared. Visit one and then the other for value; they are closely located.

It is an outdoor museums that showcases life in Sweden hundreds of years ago. They have a number of historical buildings, including one that is the oldest in the area. Each building is either furnished with period items or it is a museum with a theme such as printing presses. We enjoyed our short time here and would recommend this to others who like historical museums.
