They pick the kids up directly from surrounding schools. Addendum: he got into oxford academy! I didn't think he could. The teachers at ACE are so dedicated. I know I wouldn't have the patience (or the knowledge) to help him. But the teachers brought out his potentials.

But though it is probably best known for its Oxford Prep program, its other tutoring services do not lack anything. After being enrolled in Oxford Prep and subsequently being accepted into Oxford Academy, I came back to Pace a few times in high school for help in various subjects such as calculus and English. My math teachers did not simply assist me with my homework but guided me in learning chapters ahead. This helped me to be prepared in advance for quizzes and tests and develop study habits. Whenever I wrote an essay for English class, Tim was always willing to look over multiple drafts of it to see where I could improve it. He also made sure I understood the books I was reading on a deeper level by helping me analyze the literary texts to see the overarching themes. One thing that stands out to me about Pace in comparison to other afterschools/tutoring centers is its atmosphere. I got to know most of the teachers on a name-by-name basis for they all are very friendly. The principal is not only very nice but also very professional and experienced as she has led the academy for over 15 years. Also, because many students at Pace see its benefits and so attend for multiple years, you see many familiar faces, overall adding to the homely vibe. It really goes without saying that I have been wowed so far by how much she has advanced in terms of her addition, subtraction, and counting skills. She is extremely comfortable and confident when I orally quiz her to solve "doubles" and double-digit addition problems. The set-up inside is ideal and conducive for questioning and learning as tables are in rows along the sides of the room and tutors face the students directly. Just from sheer observations and from what my daughter has shared with us, the tutors do an excellent job of making math make perfect sense for her as they integrate strategies (bonds, pneumonic, patterns, visual aides, etc.) that are not only highly effective, but age appropriate. Each student is assigned a binder that is kept at the center to track progress. Assessments and periodic checks for understanding are used to determine whether they are ready to advance to higher order curricula or take critical steps back to strengthen students' weaknesses. There is also a heavy emphasis on ensuring students are ready for common core type questions and problems. I really love how there is almost a one-on-one component to how the material and lessons are delivered as all students get the attention that they need and deserve. A prime example of what it means to exhibit equity, fairness, and access in the classroom setting. I can't commend the staff at Mathnasium enough for making math fun and relevant for my daughter. She used to concentrate solely on her reading, but now she wants to devote more time to developing her arithmetic skills.
