He then re-primed the pump and now everything works GREAT. Less than $400 total. Alan is the last of a dying breed, a mechanic that can actually fix stuff! Most just swap parts but not Allan. I think he could fix just about anything. The shop lacks the glitz of other shops in town but have no fear these guys KNOW what they are doing. My transmission was shifting hard and the truck was becoming less and less reliable. At the time, my 2009 F-150 had close to 290,000 miles on the original transmission, so it wasn't hard to understand why I needed a new one. James was able to get me a quick reasonable quote for a rebuilt transmission from REMAN. I believe they offer a 3 year / 100,000 mile warranty for parts and labor. James was honest about the time it would take to get the part, and gave me a clear timeline for the installation. He completed the job, sticking to the promised timeline, and the cost was exactly as quoted. Unfortunately, through no fault of J&J, there was a problem with the new transmission that presented after the work had been completed. This was no problem for J&J. They worked with Reman to get it replaced and didn't charge me another cent. In addition to excellent service and honesty, James is a friendly guy who is always willing to do a ride along when we have any kind of mechanical issue. He is helpful in pinpointing any areas of concern. He will point you in the right direction if it's something he doesn't personally work on. We hope not to have mechanical failures, but when we do we know we can rely on J&J.

0 Stars I originally called because the used vehicle I…read morepurchased had some exhaust leaks and I needed them welded up in order for it to pass inspection. He agreed that he could do it for a reasonable price so I took it there and he got to welding. He wasn't able to weld all of the leaks, and the few that he did get fell apart. I drove directly from the shop to an inspection station and the leaks were worse and I failed. In addition to the exhaust leaks, the inspection station notified me that a previous owner had removed the catalytic converter so I needed to replace that as well. I purchased a new one and brought it into Hometown Automotive to have it welded in. At any exhaust shop, this should cost $100 Max. When I picked up the vehicle, he charged me $300 to weld in a catalytic converter. Keep in mind that I provided the part. I paid the bill and I didn't even make it home before the welds on the catalytic converter failed and the exhaust broke apart on the back side of the catalytic converter. I finally took a look underneath and the welds were terrible. There were actually more leaks now. I was able to slide the exhaust pipe back into the back half of the catalytic converter and use the metal wire to hold it into place so I could take it somewhere else to have it all redone again. On my way to have the work redone, the front welds on the catalytic converter failed and the exhaust fell off again. I limped it all the way to the shop and had them remove the catalytic converter and replace all of the piping, reweld in the catalytic converter, and I had a performance muffler with a stainless tip' installed for $268. Thats fairly standard industry pricing for parts and labor. When I asked the technicaian at the new shop what happened, he said the wrong type of welder was used, and the welds were bad. When I called back to hometown automotive and explain the situation, he agreed to give me a partial refund (This was October 19th, 2022). It has been more than 2 months, and not a penny has been returned. I honestly would have respected him more if he just told me that he could not weld in my catalytic converter, versus ripping me off for triple the amount any other shop would have charged me, doing incredibly shoddy work, then agreeing to refund me and then not keeping their word. That's what gets me the most, not keeping their word. How very disappointing for a new small business to treat their new customer in this manner. Shame. Response from the owner on Google via direct message: "You failed to mention that your exhaust had been welded multiple times and had cracks and jagged welds all down the exhaust. The first time you were trying to "patch up because you needed an inspection"Or the fact there was 3 different size pipes on the vehicle. And that you also had the entire exhaust replaced So they were no having to do a patch job. Thanks" There was two sizes of pipe. The original pipe, and the pipe used in place of the missing catalytic converter. When putting the new one it, that pipe would have been removed. The lack of professionalism and integrity should be weighted heavily. Even my review on Google has been paid to be blocked. Purely Dishonest.

I DRIVE my car up to Phil's auto and speak with Jeremy about my ac acting up and ask him to look into the windows and cruise control not working. Several days go by with no call so I call them and find out I need a cabin filter replaced for the ac ($11) and a main power switch ($200)for the windows so I approved those two services only! Drive by there a week later and see my car sitting outside so I stopped to pay and pick it up. They proceed to tell me that the car won't idle or accelerate and that it needs another part for the computer and will cost $500+. So a month and half of "needs another part" and "it should be ready by this afternoon" goes by and now we're out $1750 for services that we're not needed when we took the car to them. Sadly to say this isn't the first vehicle of ours that has been done this way by Phil's. The last one they did $1200+ worth of work on did not even make it a month after. I spoke with the owner and he was very nonchalant about my concerns with his service. Needless to say we will not be returning and I'd STRONGLY advise against wasting any of your hard earned money on this mechanic!
