Le Marche du Quartier means 'the neighborhood market.' How quaint is that? We took our time browsing the shelves of foie and terrine, wine, and other fine foods, but ultimately we went for the duck confit sandwich. The guys at the counter were working that duck confit, and the smell of duck fat and sizzling confit just takes over. They really stuff the fluffy, sweet roll with a ton of duck and cheese. It was very delicious and the flavors were very strong. I almost want to give it a 5/5, except the duck was quite salty, and the saltiness builds up throughout the meal. Imagine something akin to a Chinese baked pork bun, the kind in a sweet bun with a shiny glaze on top, except this has duck and cheese instead of pork.

I'm so glad I picked this oyster stand out of all the others! Richard Haward's Oysters is a must!!…read moreI walked up and it wasnt too busy since it was about 11 am on a Tuesday! The were patient and took their time explaining to me the difference between their oysters and where they came. I had their Jersey and Mersea Oysters and they also let me try a Native Oyster on the house! I grabbed some lemons and their house made sauce on the side. They paired so well with the Oysters ans the Oysters were naturally salted, so they were so well balanced with the toppings! Amazing! Some of the best I've ever had, and I enjoyed them with a glass of Prosecco. Just such a great experience!

Borough Market is a true London gem. Sometimes derided by locals as a tourist trap, it is…read morenonetheless a haven for foodies like myself With so many wonderful stalls to peruse, this stall holds the distinction of the stall which I purchase from the most often. If you're a regular there and you don't remember seeing a sign saying Italainate, it's because there isn't one! People know it as the Parma Ham and Mozzarella Stall. Indeed , it is listed as such on the Borough Market website As its nickname suggest, they specialise in just 2 products but the mozzarella and Parma ham are the very bst quality, imported directly from Italy. The stallholder, Philip Crouch sources directly from the producer, Saint Ilario The mozzarella is an unpasteurised buffalo mozzarella from Campagnia - they come in 100g and 250g sizes as well as in mini balls. They also do a delicious burrata, which has cream added into the cheese-making process to make the cheese even more creamy The Parma ham has an amazing depth of flavour - I actually prefer it to the more revered Iberico ham. This is moister and trades some saltiness for flavour. You can either buy the ham in sealed packs which is better if you want to keep it. However, I prefer to to get the freshly sliced ham which is better if you will consume it within a few days - doesn't usually last that long in my house So, when you're in Borough Market, swing round to their stall in the Green Market and try a sample. You'll be hooked!

No, I decided I'd abandon the Time-Out guided Sunday masses and wonder the wrong way down Brick Lane in search of authentic options. And because of that my lunch for £2.40 consisted of two of the best spinach samosas I've ever had and two hearty but dry fish cakes. It was window placement of these savoury cakes, samosas and pakoras that magnetised me into Ambala. The rest of the shop was largely devoid of the Bangla sweets they profess, but do I look like I'm bothered? It was lunch time, I wanted something salty, satisfying and solid value and I found it in spades. Next time you do the sunday brick lane thing, give Ambala a look. The star ingredient is available for smelling in a large jar marked 'Smell me!' Although I've never done drugs, I don't think many smells can beat the umami hit from fresh truffle They also sell truffle products like truffle salt and truflle oil, both secret ingredients I use in my cooking. If you can't afford fresh truffle, truffle salt is a great alternative. I've not tasted the truffle honey they have for sale and can't quite reconcile in my mind a combination of honey and truffle flavours However, Tartufaia also have another very important string to their bow. Looking at it, you think 'ok another place doing wraps, hoorah...' But there is more to this than meets the eye. So maybe I should have rounded this up to 4 stars? Nah, service was painfully slow and disorganised. Nice choice though, I plumped for a coriander and mint marinated chicken (insert correct Indian food terminology here). Nice juicy chicken with interesting flavour, usual salad to bulk it out and a spicy muglai sauce drizzled over. Upon asking what was in this secret sauce, the server quizzically replied, 'it's actually a mixture of 3 sauces.' Helpful, in no way. Now I don't know what 3 sauces were on my wrap instead of not knowing one. Urgh. All in all, glad I went out for lunch. Will I try this place again?
