The restaurant offers good food at a reasonable price and there is a clean hotel attached. My only disappointment with the facility is that there are only two blackjack tables. What's worse is that the three times I've been there the minimum table bet has been $15. I mean this is the land of northern Wisconsin and you can still get a beer at many bars for only $2 and here you have Mole Lake having $15 minimum table games. Come on Mole Lake, let's at least bring a $5 table back.

My main disappointment is the restaurant; they spent a lot of money redoing it, so why not invest in a manager to train and oversee the staff in the restaurant? My husband played the slots for an hour & decided to eat. We stood by the door for 20 minutes, while 4 waitresses were behind the bar area and never looked over to help seat us. Then a gentleman came from the kitchen area and told us it would be 1 hour before we could be seated. There are many tables in the restaurant and maybe 10% of them had people seated. It made no sense to us, so we walked out. If management doesn't do something to change things, this restaurant will be closing soon.

We stopped in on a cold Sunday afternoon for a go at the nickel slots (I know, just call me Nick…read morethe Greek), and dinner at the casino's Forest Island restaurant. The casino floor was a typical mix of electronic slots, perhaps smokier than most--and, yes, we came out modestly ahead. Friendly service at the Guest Services desk. The Forest Island restaurant features both a buffet and a menu selection; we opted for the latter. Nothing awful, but a couple of minor problems: lipstick on one coffee cup, and we were given a bowl of soup rather than the cup we ordered. (When we pointed this out, though, the waitress was very nice, and only charged us for a cup. We tried: - Corn chowder: Creamy, chunky, but a bit under-seasoned. - Wild rice meat loaf (something of a house specialty): A huge chunk of pretty good meat loaf, but a bit burned on the outside. - Black patty melt: A well-grilled burger and cheddar on rye, with thousand island dressing. Overall, probably not a place I'd go just for the food, but probably adequate to the expectations of most of the casino's patrons.

While I understand that equipment can fail, what was far more frustrating was how the situation was handled afterward. When I spoke with the front desk the next morning, there wasn't even a simple apology for the disruption. There was no acknowledgment of the inconvenience, no empathy, and no attempt to offer any sort of goodwill gesture. Good customer service starts with taking care of your guests when something goes wrong, and that simply didn't happen here. Problems can happen at any hotel, but how the staff responds makes all the difference. Unfortunately, the lack of concern and poor customer service left a much worse impression than the alarm itself.

Our checkin was seamless and we checked our room out before heading to our convention. The convention rooms are just the right size for our needs and both years we had great food served and awesome service by the staff. On Friday night our foods were served at separate stations which I thought was kinda neat. 2023-stations with grilled cheese/tomato soup, taco bar, fruit/veggies/dip and ice cream/toppings. 2023-stations with fresh fruit/raw veggies/dips, meat balls/chicken wings, baked potato bar and ice cream/toppings. Saturday lunch/dinner buffets were Italian and prime rib, chicken etc. All foods and desserts were excellent. My second trip here I made a visit to the casino. It was a nice little casino. I signed up for the players club because I was told you could get $15/20 of free $ to play with. It was a little confusing as to how it works. I got my players card and had to visit a kiosk to get the $ added into my account. The first $20 I played on I don't think it was linking to my card I put into the slot machine. I went to. Different machine and it took me several tries to get my card to connect to the machine. Then it started to count points. Seems I had to play a bit to get a point and from what I could understand I needed to get 50 points to unlock the free money. That wasn't going to happen in the short time I was visiting. I probably would have had to play for a few hours to make that happen. I don't know if the $ will stay in my account permanently or if it has a time limit. I guess I'll find out next year. When I go back next year I plan on trying out the beautiful pool area. Update:2023 We got here around 3:20 to ck in after a long morning at a funeral and a 3.5 hr drive looking forward to a nap before the convention. Our room wasn't ready until 4. We were tired so just sat in the lobby with our luggage cart visiting with people while we waiting. We did enjoy our spacious room once we got to it. It also had a beautiful view lake view.

Went to the room to clean up after a long day of Wisconsins beautiful north woods. We decided to eat a sandwich inside their dining area, absolutely delicious food. Both of us decided to go to the bar and play video poker, not much luck , but that's expected. Here is why they get one star. I took a can of Budweiser from their bar ( my 4th paid for beer) to my room to get another $400 to invest in a game I thought would pay out. I arrived down stairs to get confronted ( I was in room 203) by a young man that "watched " me go in and out of my room on video and said I couldn't come into the casino with the beer. I questioned him on why I can't come back with the same beer, he said he seen me get a beer ( which I did not). Is there a camera in my room, did you also see the $400 I grabbed that I donated as the troops followed me from one machine to another when I went back down? The shift manager approached me ( he was good guy) and we talked. I asked him to have his dogs back off, which they did not. At that point it was off to my room and write my first review ever. By the way , I've been to Atlantic City, Vegas , Laughlin and a couple casinos not all that far away from Watersmeet, good luck.

The thermostat was pretty old school, but it seemed to work okay. The furnishings were a little worn, but the bed was comfortable enough. I was on the second floor, and there was this odd frosted glass over most of my window (not at the very top, though). It was odd, and I wish I would have had a better view. We also ate at the Groove (one of the restaurants on site). The food was pretty good (except for the shrimp tacos; don't bother with those). The service was pretty hit or miss. The first time we went, we waited a long time for menus, we waited a long time for the food, and we waited a long time for our check. When it was finally time for the check, our server just walked up to the table, said "sorry," and put the check on the table. Um, ok. Our other visits were a bit better (ironically enough, we had the same server every time), but overall it was a "meh" experience. Service in the breakfast buffet next door was much better.

Yet every year in August, around the middle of the month and always on a Wednesday, Eagle River celebrates Paul Bunyan Fest. People come from as far away as Arizona and Colorado to this event. The main streets of town are shut down so that craft vendors can set up shop in their tents and storefronts can hold sidewalk sales. It's pretty much the same vendors every year, many of whom we've come to know. It's never too early to start Christmas shopping, and many vendors sell decorations for the fall and winter holidays. This includes wreaths, autumn-themed dried arrangements, or scented candles. Packer-related quilts, lampshades and wall plaques abound, but hey, this is northern Wisconsin and it's to be expected. There's also vendors selling various dip mixes, salsas, and seasonings, our favorite being Bayfield Spice. Seems their cheddar cheese popcorn topping is always a huge hit and they sell out of it quickly. We get 4-5 packs of it to last us the year. If you're lucky, they may even have the white cheddar topping too. Another sight to see is a guy who does chainsaw sculptures by carving up thick tree trunks. He parks a flatbed truck in the middle of the street and cordons it off for safety. Spectators come see the intricate carvings of bears, eagles or totem poles that he chips away with his chainsaw. You can even bring one home with you if you have a few hundred dollars and some room in your vehicle. And finally, there's some food too. We always eat beforehand and skip that, but they usually have brats with sauerkraut. It seems too crowded with old people, and there's polka music blaring on a nearby loudspeaker. But if you stay away from that part of the festival, you'll be just fine. And you gotta stop at Tremblay's to get some fresh fudge before you leave. My favorite is the chocolate-peanut butter. But that's another review...

Most importantly, the casino has no taxes because you're on the Menominee reservation. So, it is what it is. They had photos along the wall close to the gift shop. As someone with Menominee lineage, I wish they offered more history of the area and told the story that many books need to teach about the Menominee nation.
