The price was good and the wings did live up to the hype but I wouldn't say they were earth shattering. There was just the right amount of glaze but the wings themselves lacked meat. Yesterday's visit to The Hudson reaffirmed how good the bar is in my eyes - it's such a jack of all trades - serves a whole host of different beers - I had the Sam Adams, something that you don't see too often in Belfast. They also have a function room for hire and have onsite catering facilities, which when I was growing up was a massive 18th birthday party spot. The profits from the club go to support the Gaelic and Hurling programs in St. Paul's which gives a great distraction for all young people in the area and really represents the best parts of this side of Belfast. The decor is modern and glam, with the central bar gleaming with shiny bottles of joy. The bar also has an area reserved for diners which looks nice. I haven't had the opportunity to sample the food but I've heard good things and will update if I ever go. The only points that let Tates down for me are: 1. They reduced the cocktail menu substantially from the original (they probably make anything but the menu was full of good ideas) 2. I miss the train carriages that formed part of the platform.

This dining place is part of the Francis Court hotel, funnily enough on Francis street occupying a site that 55 years ago was a railway line for the train to Warrenpoint. This and many other great rail lines were sadly killed off for political reasons in the 1960's. I didn't know food was being served here until I drove by and saw their advert on a giant billboard adjacent to the hotel. So upon seeing the billboard and being there (2 movie style references already: 3 billboards outside Ebbing Missouri & Being There). I keep digressing anyway in we went to try it. We both ordered the chilli beef strips on homemade bread with lime mayonnaise and fries. We got the triple cooked fries. The food was excellent with almost every element great but splitting hairs I couldn't detect any lime in the mayo. The beef was crispy and delicious - the homemade bread was homemade and divine; often this is claimed on menus but falsely so. The triple cooked chips too were great and at under £6 the food was fairly priced. The only thing that annoyed me was the lack of Colman's English mustard. The worlds greatest mustard. I was offered American mustard. No thanks. Service could be better. We told the waitress we needed a few minutes but we eventually had to go in search of wait staff when no one returned to attend to us. So it would have been three stars but the fair price nudges it to four star.
