Mrs. Molly is an amazing music teacher who is the most patient and kind person we've ever met - our family has grown to love her! My 8-year-old son has been taking guitar lessons for 3 years now and the benefits of the Suzuki method goes far beyond music. First, she makes learning guitar so fun that my teenage son decided to join in on the lessons. Second, parents are present at the lessons so if you're like me and have always wanted to learn guitar, it's a lesson for you too! Third, students are gently guided to perform recital pieces on stage in front of fellow students so their confidence level soars by leaps and bounds. In fact, my 2nd grader decided to perform in his school's talent show with such ease because of all the training he's had with Mrs. Molly. We were astonished and grateful! In addition, my boys have learned to read music which has secretly taught them to better understand math, particularly fractions (which has been super helpful in preparing my son for 3rd grade!) They learn a beautiful respect between teacher and student, parent and student, student and student, & student and instrument. They offer additional (optional) workshops, with charitable performances at various locations including retirement homes, and an incredible summer camp that creates a wonderful camaraderie amongst Suzuki families. On top of all the great memories made, their skill level increases significantly with all of these cherished experiences. While these lessons may cost more than others, you will find it to be an invaluable investment that is well worth it. I have observed Molly teaching pre-K classes on several occasions at Gillybean preschool, and she has an instant report with the children. Her manner is easy and fun, and she engages the children with thoughtful questions, and she teaches them real music fundamentals such as Pitch, Steady Beat, Rhythm and Melody, using material she writes herself for the Peach & Spoon project, or other songs and chants that she has learned from others. Although I only observed her a few times, I felt that each child felt recognized in the class, even if they had been absent the week before. Classes seem to be progressive, learning some new material each week, but at the same time repetitive so that children feel comfortable and excited to sing some of the same songs. When I was there Molly was teaching the children about fast and slow tempi, singing a song first slow and then fast, and observing how the song felt different in the different tempos. We have been using Molly for Violin lessons (she also does guitar) using the Suzuki method, for 2 years now. We started at my sons insistence at 7 years old. He is now 9 and has really excelled under Molly's instruction. She is such a wonderful teacher! Plus my son loves her as well. She really knows how to keep him engaged and is very encouraging. She takes time out of her own schedule to help with getting the right violin for him at the dealer who rents (Robert Cauer) a violin to us. Again, she will be taking time out of her busy schedule to come with us to purchase a violin for him. Molly is very patient with my son and myself (I am very forgetful and annoying...haha). Molly has a Masters in music from The University Of Texas at Austin, plays Bluegrass in a band and plays multiple instruments. The spot she teaches has ample parking, is air conditioned and generally a great area and lovely. The Suzuki Method has been unbelievably awesome overall. There are recitals, concerts and performances at Rest Homes, which brings such joy to myself, my son and the residents of the Rest Homes. Group is every other week with the other children in the Suzuki Program and has proven to be a great support group! I can't say enough about it. If your child is interested in playing the violin or guitar and you're looking for an amazing, supportive, calm and encouraging person to teach your child, Molly is The One! Music with Molly is an absolute delight. I have had the chance to watch Molly teach children between the ages of 2 and 5 over the last few years, and her classes are always a treat. Engaging children with such a positive and playful approach, while staying on track, is a definite skill. She is one of the few teachers that I know who not only has the Suzuki teaching credentials, but who also has a Masters degree in music. Molly has so much experience and is a well rounded musician.
