I was passing through the area on my way to visit family, and a friend and I decided to meet up for a catch-up brunch at Molly's. It was my first time there, though my friend had been many times before. Since it was a weekday (and snowing) it wasn't busy that day, and we were seated right away. Molly's has a cozy, homey feel, both in the atmosphere and the food. I ordered the avocado toast with fresh fruit, which was simple and satisfying. Overall, we had an enjoyable experience with warm vibes, good food, and friendly staff, though it wasn't anything particularly memorable. We stopped in for breakfast and had a plate of bacon, eggs, with crispy home fries, and a order of the eggs Benedict, for myself. The tenderly grilled peameal bacon, sat under a perfectly cooked egg topped with a well crafted Hollandaise sauce. I would return just for this breakfast treat, and the friendly service. Though i highly recommend the eggs Benedict, I would steer clear of the home fries and bacon, as the the fries are not crispy, and the bacon is over done and tasteless. I would opt for the potato pancakes for the not so crispy home fries, and stick with the peameal at no extra charge. read more

This place is absolutely the most disgusting place I have ever dined at in my entire life and I wouldn't advise anyone to eat here. Not even if they are starving. My mother, while dining at this absolute dive had the unfortunate view of watching a waitress pull a container of Activia yogurt out of the refrigerator and scoop some of it into the dish it was being served into. After she finished doing this however, she decided that for whatever reason she would TASTE the yogurt herself that was already in the dish to be served, stirred it around with the spoon she had just had in her mouth and then proceeded to SERVE that same dish to a customer at another table. Not only this, but the eggs were severely undercooked. I'm not even sure how they were able to transfer them to the plate my brother was eating off of they were so watery. I live down the street from here and this was my first and last time visiting this restaurant and I would advise others to visit any other place other than this one to eat. I use the word restaurant very loosely in this sense. I have never been more disgusted anywhere I have eaten. I'm not sure a reputable establishment would hire this kind of staff or serve anything close to this level of embarrassment and uncleanliness on their part. I shudder to think how my food is handled in the kitchen if the waitresses are snacking on your food in front of its own customers. I will deter everyone I know in the town of Courtice not to dine here and will be making a formal complaint for health and sanitary reasons. If any of you have had a similar experience I implore you to do the same. read more

I was excited to try Molly's because I had heard reasonable things. There were several negatives with my experience and I will not be returning. The main concern I had after ordering a 6oz New York Strip was that the meat that came was grey. I don't mean overcooked meat that becomes textureless I mean dead cold left out of the fridge for a week and has gone rancid grey. There is no way anything about that steak should have been acceptable to the person cooking it. It was cooked to a medium rare as I had asked but it was completely bloodless. I'm sure the health department would be concerned if they had seen what I was served. The waitress quickly ushered it away and brought a suitable replacement but I was charged full price for the meal. It was a very greasy meal and felt very heavy in the stomach after eating. They've tried to simplify the menu by listing the ordering process by number, but it has been made confusing and difficult to follow. I applaud the creative process taken, but breakfast is pretty simple to order and a good ol' fashioned menu is never a bad thing. To top it all off, half of our group were without their meal for about 15 minutes once our orders started to come out, and the last one to receive her food was a 2 year old. Typically a child's order should be the first one out. We had to ask for more coffee and the waitress never came by to ask how the food was once we finally did get everything on the table. Breakfast is pretty simple. There are lots of other choices around that are better priced, better food and better service. The rotting meat though was the worst thing I've seen yet in a restaurant. read more

Molly believes in healthful breakfasts. Even though this strip mall diner appears to be just a typical hole-in-the-wall greasy spoon, it's not. There is a smoothie selection and as well a palate cleanser that was super cheap and quite intriguing. The first refreshing sign of this healthy lifestyle attitude was the cleanliness of the restaurant. The usual greasiness was supplanted by spotless booths and a freshness in the air. I ordered the typical eggs and peameal bacon breakfast with home fries and was pleasantly surprised by the lack of fat in the dish overall. The bacon cooked well enough that it was almost crispy, the eggs fried and yet perfectly appealing and the home fries, amazing! The potatoes had the skin on and were cooked through, but not mushy, and dry but still delicious with a dusting of herbs. In fact you could pick up pieces as finger food, quite innovative. Highly recommended that you go north from the 401 at Courtice (east of Oshawa) and check this place out. read more

It's a small restaurant. While my husband and I were there they only had one server working the entire place. Very friendly. The food prices were a little high, and the food was alright. I had the special which was stuffed French toast, kind of soggy but a decent amount of food (3pc French toast, 3pc of bacon and home fries). My husband had the eggs Benedict and thought they were just okay. Coffee, not good. All in all, not our first choice in a breakfast joint. read more

What a Gem! I found this place by accident, and have been back probably a dozen times since. Sue & Bonnie the wait staff are fantastic. They've always been accommodating to me, and have always treated me very well. They're always chipper and provide great service. I've never had a meal that I didn't enjoy, and the Eggs Benedict is particularly delicious. The easy-to-order menu makes it simple. However.. keep in mind, this is a BREAKFAST place, with a heavy emphasis on your typical Sunday breakfast - Eggs, bacon/sausage, potato of choice, and a nice side of beans. This isn't the kind of place you go to for health food, although they do offer lighter breakfasts as well. The potato pancake is to die for. As for those who are complaining about the eggs being undercooked -- ask for your eggs to be cooked well done. If you're not cooking your own eggs at home, it's always a better idea to ask for them to be well done. The place gets extremely busy on Saturday and Sunday's - typically slows down around 1-130 ish on the weekends. They do close at 3pm, Great location, great good and great staff. read more

We just tried this place for breakfast on the way back from Peterborough. First off for two adults and to kids to eat the bill was $46. Also my son who loves pancakes kept complaining about them until I finally tried a piece. I knew rite away they were made with rotten milk, the flavour of sour milk dominated my mouth after one bite. Colour us disappointed. After waiting anxiously for several months for this restaurant to open (we were really looking forward to having a breakfast place in the neighbourhood) we finally gave it an inaugural test run this morning. The restaurant is very clean (to be expected, since its new), the wait personnel are very friendly, and the decor is nice. The menu concept is unique and original. Unfortunately, this is where the 'good things to say' portion of this review must come to an end. The food did not live up to our expectations, and took longer to arrive than one would expect at a breakfast joint. I wouldn't complain about that if the food was worth the wait, but alas... it was not. The coffee was lukewarm at best. The home-style potatoes were under-cooked, dry and bland. The eggs were on the rubbery side, and the yokes were broken. The sausages were tasty, but barely warm. The pancakes were okay, but tasted like they were made with Bisquick. I did enjoy the Rye toast, however, so I guess that's something. At somewhere around $10/person, and leaving with an overall 'that didn't sit well' feeling in our stomachs, I'm not sure we'll go back again.... maybe we'll give it a try in a few months, if they're still open... just to see if they've worked the kinks out. read more

Relative went here a long time ago so we decided to bring the family, I liked the menu, but what we didn't like was the service. Waitress ignored us and focused on what was obviously the regulars. When we ordered our food we discovered that our second child had no drink when we ordered it, the waitress explained that it is usually only with the meal, but he and his brother were sharing the meal. We had to flat out tell her yes we would pay the extra for our other child to get a drink, and we didn't get the extra drink till we were nearly done our meals. I watched her go back and forth and my husband notice she avoided giving him direct eye contact. The food wasn't that great and we were told later that the quality had gone downhill recently. Never going again, seriously? Who doesn't ensure every person at the table has a drink! read more

What a mess. The entrance is chaos with people standing everywhere. The staff seem completely overwhelmed. And the manager stands there looking at this disaster with eyes like a deer in the headlights. My breakfast was warm, at best, and everything tasted stale and of low quality. My wife ordered crepes which came cold. Refrigerator cold. We mentioned this to the waitress who could only manage a look of complete disinterest and we were told "that's the way we serve 'em". We were completely ignored for the next 20 minutes until the waitress slapped down the bill as she walked by. Stunningly poor experience. Has to be the worst restaurant in the region. read more

Had excellent late brunch here driving home to Toronto from the East. BF had a big breakfast - he was impressed it included baked beans and loved the lightly spiced hash browns. Fantastic breakfast place, the food was great and the portion sizes were more than adequate. The price was a little higher than your usual diner fare but worth it for the quality and ambiance. The food is great. But the sass from the serving staff is too much. Rude actually. Might come back, but probably would go to any other brunch place in Durham. Apparently asking for water is too much. And god forbid you ask the price of bottled water. This is the rudest thing you can ask staff...beware of this at all cost. Just left Molly's - can't comment on food because we didn't eat, so giving one star because you have to give something on the star system. We literally stood at the front door for 10 minutes and didn't get acknowledged by any of the servers, or the hostess. They all made eye contact with us - but that was as far as it went. It is a well known fact that a "hello", or be right with you within the first 30 seconds of entering a restaurant helps to retain clientele. Let me add - we were the only people waiting for a table, as the staff had all just finished fawning over a regular who doesn't normally come on a Saturday, but was there today (Saturday) omg! While regulars tend to be an establishments bread and butter, new clientele are also important - something that, after our experience, we will never be. We are now down the road at barnabys, just about a kilometre away; and have our coffee and tea, and have ordered - all within the space of about 10 minutes - the time it took for the entire staff at Molly's to ignore us and ensure we will never return. read more

I would strongly recommend those with celiacs to avoid this place. I visited here with a friend who has a legitimate gluten-intolerance... We were attracted by the gluten-free options touted on the menu and were quite excited to check the place out... Upon ordering, however, we quickly realized that the staff were uneducated about what products actually contained gluten, with our waitress thinking that potatoes are made of gluten. Certainly I do not blame the waitstaff, but I believe that it is the responsibility of the manager to ensure that staff are alert to dietary restrictions, especially if menu options are listed as "gluten-free". When the waitress asked the chefs in the back if the potatoes or meat contained any gluten products, she came back and very uncertainly said, "I think everything is okay." I think that if places decide to serve dietary options, they should at the very least have a basic understanding of what goes in to their food so that customers do not potentially get very sick from their meals. With that said, when the food arrived, mine was subpar... It was basically a typical diner breakfast... The potatoes were dry, the French toast was somewhat soggy and only somewhat warm, the sausages were yummy, but the rest of the meal was just average (or maybe below average). My friend's French toast was terrible-looking... On her last slice she lifted up the layer of egg coating to reveal a soggy mound of uncooked eggs below, sopping into the bread. Moreover, her home style potatoes were barely cooked and hard. Certainly not the dining experience we were expecting. I definitely think management should consider educating their staff and that the quality of food should be reconsidered... I do think this place has good potential- a breakfast joint in the area is much needed and having it open for breakfast all day is a great idea. The menus were also cute and they seemed to have plenty of options, but things definitely need to improve before I would consider recommending this place to anyone... And after this experience, I probably won't be going back to try it again! read more

Only giving it 1 star due to the cleanliness of the place. Had breakfast there today and really sorry I did. Husband asked for over easy eggs got over hard I got a cheese omelet that was way over cooked. Potatoes are your cheapest thing to serve with the meal, lucky if there were 10 home fries on plate. Asked for rye toast, got marble rye with caraway seeds in it should of been told that by server from the start. Coffee was so strong and bitter. I got a breakfast that was 5 stars above this from the old Baker's Dozen in Hampton. Will never go back to Molly's or recommend to anyone I know. read more

Me and my husband thought we would pop in for some breakfast and were very hopeful that this would be our new breakfast spot as it is so close to home. Breakfast is one of my most favorite meals and I was absolutely starving. I was very disappointed when my plate arrived! I have never been served such a tiny portion for breakfast before. We have been to many different breakfast establishments and we are always served a heaping pile of breakfast potatoes and nice thick bacon. I was served four tiny pieces of breakfast potato and 3 pieces of bacon that was so thin it crumbled when I picked it up. Needless to say I finished a whole meal and was still hungry afterwards. I think there is potential here because the food wasn't bad they just need to beef up their portions especially since you are strictly a breakfast restaurant. I would think that you would want your breakfast to be on point since this is all you serve. read more
