Let me start off by saying that when you have cancer it is never easy, but everyone here really tried to do their best to treat us with respect, care and professionalism. There is not much these people can do to change your circumstances but they do try to make their part as painless as possible. Dr. Mekhail's administrative assistant, Teri, is incredible. She keeps a thousand balls up in the air at once and never drops one of them. She comes to the phone when you call, she sets up all of your appointments for their office as well as for scans and blood work or any other testing done outside of their office. She has incredible follow through and she knows who you are when you call or come in. Thank You Teri. Dr. Mekhail's nurse and now part of the protocol research team is Tammy. During the first few appointments Tammy showed such kindness, patience, grace and offered us so much comfort that we will be eternally grateful. She was also full of information and little tips of how to deal with what was going to be happening. Thank You Tammy. In the chemo room a special thank you to Robert and Mel and there was one other woman, a black woman who I apologize - I don't know her name, who treated my friend with such tenderness and warmth AND expertise. You all made the rigors of chemo palatable. Thank you. There are times you will wait. They are incredibly busy. My friend grew impatient at the wait at times, understandably so, she was usually in pain, exhausted, nauseous and anxious. For me, sitting in the chair next to her, I understood the waits. So, There but for the grace of God go I, if I were diagnosed with cancer tomorrow would I go to the Cancer Institute of Florida? Yes, I would. Thank you all for your care during a difficult time.

When Dad was admitted to the hospital via the ER, one of her colleagues first examined my father, and would have done surgery on Dad the next day. I was very uneasy about this doctor since I knew nothing about him, and because I had seen Dr. Tejpar myself for a sigmoidoscopy, I asked that she be with the one to do Dad's surgery instead. The other doctor failed to ask my father if he had taken aspirin (or any other blood thinning drugs) and had he operated as scheduled, Dad could have hemorrhaged. After the consulatation with Dr. Tejpar, she sent Dad home with instructions to discontinue the aspirin for a period of ten After the required time had elapsed in order to safely perform the surgery, she operated on my father and was able to removed the HUGE stone and his gallbladder laparascopically instead of open surgery. We were all very pleased with Dr. Tejpar and I would highly recommend her. I know nothing about her abilities as a breast cancer surgeon, but if her skill level is equal to that which we saw when she operated on Dad, I'm sure she'd be excellent

Dr. Finkler, in my opinion, is the best gynecologist/oncologist in this area, and most probably in…read morethe entire state of Florida. It does take awhile to get an appointment with Dr. Finkler, but I am sure that is because he is so much in demand because of his well deserved stellar reputation. You could not find a more competent and caring physician. Dr. Finkler literally saved my life. He truly listens to his patients, and unlike the countless other doctors that I'd been to see about this problem, he LISTENED to me and actually believed me when I told him in great detail of my ongoing symptoms and of the excrutiating pain that I was suffering. . By the time that I saw him, I was in agony. He performed a TAH/BSO on me, and my condition was actually Stage IV. Dr. Finkler's nurse, Linda Pfeiffer, is just as caring as he is. I can not tell you how many times I have had a medical question, needed a referral for a physician, or requested Dr. Finkler's opinion on a medical issue. Over the past twelve years, he and Linda have come to my aid too many times to count. This woman has been the most comforting, thorough, supportive nurse that I have ever had in my life, and Dr. Finkler is the same....If I ever need him, he is there for me, as is Linda. They truly exemplify the best in their profession, and I can not imagine anyone being displeased with the level of care rendered by either of them. When Dr. Finkler retires, I will be one unhappy camper, as he and Linda are irreplacable. Any woman who has any form of gynecologic cancer could never find a more highly skilled or more compassionate doctor than Dr. Finkler. He's an excellent surgeon and his patients are very fortunate indeed. In spite of the fact that Dr. Finkler works in a field (oncology) that has to be depressing at times, he always remains just as upbeat, positive and caring as he was on the day that I first went for my consultation nearly 13 years ago. Dr. Finkler has a wonderful bedside manner, and he is not at all offended if you are the type of patient who asks a lot of questions and who likes to read up on things. That is the mark of a truly good doctor, and one who is secure within himself. Patients come from out of state and from distant cities in FL to go to Dr. Finkler, and I can see why. He is truly the best .
