How this facility is rated 5 stars is beyond me. First the patient ratio is 19 - 1 meaning there…read moreis one CNA and Nurse to one 19 patients and one person passing Meds to an entire floor. BUT they do have plenty of directors who sit in their offices all day and do what they can to keep beds full to keep the this facility open. I'm not sure why they have a hospitality director all she does is sit in her office all day and all they do is decorate the building to show that they have activities. ( they do not). Seriously a secretary could do this. The rooms need serious rehab. Our sink kept leaking down and all over the counter, the light over the shower was flickering, underneath the beds were extremely dusty they had painters tape holding up cabinet doors that needed hinges, and tape holding up the light fixture above the bed ( yeah that's safe) . The door for the bathroom would not stay open and I had to prop it open. The building had limited access. If one wanted to sit on the patio on the first floor, one would have to walk to the back of the building to access it vs using the sliding door that is there. Meaning one would have to manage the sloping parking lot and uneven sidewalks. They have patios on the 2nd and 3rd floors but, they are locked and patients are unable to access them. PT/OT could use a lot of improvement beginning with the room. It's it is extremely hot and the equipment is old and not complete and dirty. Rarely did I see where therapists sanitized between patient and when they did. They used the hand sanitizer to clean them. I'd expect one if not several patients to experience some type of fungal infection. The staff is immature and therapy is very ineffective. They do the minimum standards as required my CMS and Medicare to get patients barely mobile and out of there. The nursing staff is great but overwhelmed. They need at minimum 2 nurses and 2 CNA to be able to meet the needs of the patients. Instead this facility has so many directors, that If they omitted some of the directors they could afford to hire more nurses, repair the building properly. This place will also take Anyone. And I mean ANYONE there was a patient that was memory care that was next to us that would sundown at 3 am and would Wake up screaming , this waking all of us up. But instead of suggesting to his family he'd be best suited for skilled nursing was kept there. He was in therapy with my mom and began to cry once they got him on the elliptical. There was another patient that was a mental health patient that would throw feces and food all over and he was finally discharged from the facility once he punched a PT and was arrested. AGAIN THEY WILL TAKE ANYONE. These types of patients will take away from others who truly need the care. Don't be fooled by the Starbucks in the lobby ( to which they always run out of inventory) this place meets minimum standard. Don't send your loved ones here. I hated Remington but it's a lot nicer than this spot plug the ratio of patients to nurses is 15-1. So it's a tad better.

We didn't have that experience at all. The rooms were small and shared. My mother's roommate said that she had been waiting for batteries for her tv remote for 4 hours and that the tv was stuck on sports and on a high volume. She was still waiting for a walker as she had already been there for a couple of days and had asked for bedrails but they would not be there for a few more days. She also mentioned she had been waiting for hours for pain meds. When my mother asked about bed rails they also said it would be three days before she would have them. Upon arrival in her room there was a pair of dirty socks on the nightstand and a nebulizer that had a used mask and medication. We pointed it out to the staff and they shrugged and left them where they were found. My mother was in pain and we asked about medication. They offered Tylenol around 7pm and we had to request an ice pack for her knee. We asked about her evening meds and they said they hadn't received anything- we were concerned because my mother is diabetic and has other health conditions that require regular medication. The staff seemed unconcerned and dismissive. We received a call from my mother at 1:30 AM that there were bugs crawling on the walls, the room was hot, and they had not provided her with pain medication or another ice pack. She felt feverish around 3:00AM and we went to the facility and they hesitated letting us in as hours of visitation are only 8am-8pm. They had the nerve to tell my dad that my mom did nothing but complain. We were shocked at the lack of compassion. We felt so sorry for the people who rely on this place for rehabilitation and also for their long term residence. We strongly ask case managers who recommend this place to actually go visit and see where they are sending patients for rehabilitative care.

I wish I could be macho and say I hurt my back playing football, lifting weights, or rescuing a…read moremorbidly obese invalid from a burning building, but my story is about as wimpy as they come. I injured my back playing a video game. Now, you're probably thinking, "Oh, he must be referring to 'Wii Sports' or some other game with motion controls," but no. I hurt my back playing "Klax" on the Atari Lynx. I aggravated it further a few days later while talking to a dead guy at a cemetery. I was sitting at a weird angle during both activities and pinched a nerve in my scoliosis-afflicted spine. I'm fairly certain that I'm the first chiropractic patient in history to blame a back injury on an Atari game and a ghost, so at least I've got *that* going for me. The pain in my lower back was beginning to affect my quality of life, so I bit the bullet and made an appointment to see Dr. Brandon Rihn at Helotes Chiropractic Clinic. Several colleagues at my place of employment are regular clients and recommended Brandon without hesitation. After just two visits, I can see why he came so highly recommended. Everyone working here is super friendly. Medical offices tend to be clinical (pardon the pun), but the staff here treat patients like family. I suffer from a mild case of latrophobia (fear of going to the doctor), but the affable front desk staff and X-ray tech quelled my anxiety within seconds. They are ingratiating, not just superficially polite. Brandon began my first session by discussing my X-rays and proposing a course of treatment. Although I presented with mild-to-moderate lower back pain, my X-rays also revealed several previously undiagnosed issues with my neck: whiplash, a mild case of spina bifida, and early-onset arthritis. When he noticed the pronounced lateral "S" curve of my spine, he said he wished he could have treated me many years earlier. Apparently, when caught early, most cases of scoliosis can be corrected via chiropractic manipulation. If only I had known when I was diagnosed at age 12! He assured me, however, that he could at least partially straighten my spine. The adjustment was intense. Brandon cracked my back and neck in ways I didn't think were even possible. I felt more flexible almost instantaneously, and the discomfort in my back went from about a "7 out of 10" to a "3 out of 10" on the pain scale chart. I had expected moderate relief, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much better I felt after just one adjustment. My second and most recent adjustment yielded even better results. Later that day, I noticed that I was standing and sitting straighter. I also noticed that I no longer felt the urge to fidget in my chair or sway from side to side while standing. I can't remember the last time I was able to sit or stand still without fidgeting, so I can only conclude that the second adjustment corrected yet another nerve issue in my spine. The second visit was special for another reason, too. Shortly before the adjustment, Brandon smiled and said, "Look, this might sound crazy, but have you ever communicated with a loved one or someone else who's passed?" I explained that I often conduct instrumental trans-communication (ITC) sessions and communicate with the dead, including my maternal grandmother. He seemed relieved that I was receptive to the topic and confessed that he felt an almost overwhelming spiritual presence surrounding me during my first adjustment. I showed Brandon several recent videos from my ITC sessions, which he found fascinating. He then shared with me a very personal story regarding his experiences with the paranormal. Clairsentience is common among holistic healers, so I shouldn't be surprised that Brandon possesses the gift. If you live anywhere near San Antonio and need a chiropractor, then please consider making an appointment at Helotes Chiropractic Clinic. They accept most insurances (including Blue Cross/Blue Shield) and keep flexible hours. Oh, and if you *must* play "Klax" or communicate with a dead person at a cemetery, then please be mindful of your posture...and whatever you do, NEVER play "Klax" *and* talk to a dead guy simultaneously. Doing so may result in quadriplegia.

I have been to other chiropractors, and the lady I saw here, is not one of my favorites. She was very nice, and I appreciate her experience, but she didn't make my body feel like new after seeing her. Have you been to a chiropractor who moves every single part of your body to the right place and you feel like you can fly for the next days? We'll, this is not that place. I hope I can find something like that in the San Antonio area. However they may be good for athletes, and for older people. And maybe the other doctor I didn't see, would have been better for me. I will never know. I went several Times, I think I need to find something better for me.
