I felt there was nothing to lose and no where else to turn. I did my research - she was in-network and accepted my health insurance but I also read reviews about her. Those reviews are what propelled me to give it a try. Not only has Sylvia addressed each of my issues individually and grounded me, she has helped me with a host of other non-related items such as health, nutrition, body temperature (always being cold) as well as fertility. I no longer have knee or back pain so ski season was a success this year AND I'm looking forward to being on the bike this spring/summer/fall! I would not recommend doing anything physical afterwards (riding a bike, gym, etc) and allow your body time to heal. I felt relaxed for days after a treatment. Every time I went - I was comforted by the herbal aromas, the warmth, the comfortable beds/pillows and the music. I found myself meditating during the "healing" process and felt not only rejuvenated but relaxed and pain free afterwards. Sylvia is a breath of fresh air from traditional Western medicine. Most doctors want to see you in/out as quickly as possible. They don't really listen and definitely don't believe in alternative healing methods other than medication, medication, medication. Sylvia takes the time to get to know you, to understand what's bothering you and recommends alternative ways to "heal" and be well in conjunction with anything you may doing with your regular doctor(s). She believes in healing with diet, acupuncture and herbal remedies. She specializes in women's fertility and is a wealth of information. She really listens and I truly respect her as a professional. I wish she would write a book! She sends confirmation emails for your next appointment, reminders as well as electronic receipts. Furthermore, this is a review about a specific provider, not of acupuncture itself. Now, I could go on for days about my apprehensions about acupuncture, reluctance to give it a shit, frustration with my particular issues (sinus and digestive), and eventual willingness to give it a try, but that's not applicable to the review. You can track down my blog for that if it's something you want to explore. So let's talk about this business. Simply put, it is excellent. So is Sylvia. It's a great little building, out of the way with its own little courtyard and off-street parking (a rarity in this area!) There's one chair in the front room, and that's all they'll ever need, as there's rarely a wait. Appointments are honored on time, service is prompt but relaxed and always professional. Rates are fair, appointments are confirmed electronically, and everything is just awesome, convenient, and extremely comfortable. Cleanliness is certainly a factor, and this place is impeccably clean. There's so much to be delighted with. Sylvia is every bit as amazing as the space in which she works. (I'm sure these things tend to go hand in hand, so it's not surprising.) She's easy to work with, asks all the right questions, ensures you're comfortable, and does gets to work. After your acupuncture session (which will differ, I'm sure, depending on your needs), you'll find yourself in an uncommonly relaxed state. During this time, you'll want to focus inward on your calm bliss. Somehow, Sylvia manages to handle all the tricky administrative stuff (payment [even flexible spending accounts!], scheduling, etc) in such an easy, flowing manner that your calm is never disturbed. You float out of the office to your transportation. At this point, you're on your own for maintaining that blissful calm. Maybe take a few minutes to relish it on a bench in the courtyard before you dive back into traffic. :)

I have stayed with him for all these years because he has a vast breadth of knowledge, he talks to me and not at me, he focuses as much on keeping me healthy as he does in dealing with any health issue I might have and I really like his holistic philosophy of health. His explanations are clear and he answers questions directly. He mines me for information and then works to connect the dots. And he channels his ideas and recommendations within the value boundaries of his patients without compromising his medical analyses or his solutions. Beyond medicine, he also advises on lifestyle changes that a patient can make to enhance their health. As a result, I have improved on a variety of personal health metrics ranging from my Ac1 score to my inflammation levels to even my heart parameters. He also instills confidence that one has the power to impact their health in positive ways. I especially like that he has a nutritionist professional on his staff. I've learned more about the relationship between food and health than I ever thought I would and to my significant benefit. I am so grateful to have Dr. Asplin as my primary Doctor. She definitely incorporates common sense into her practice (that everyone should be reminded of from time to time). Visiting her is a very different experience than visiting an MD, because she will genuinely care about your life, nutrition, specific health challenges, and overall wellbeing. Instead, I was treated in a practitioner's room down a far hall in the back of the facility where no one was being treated. This was my first time being treated in Colorado. I just moved from St. Louis, MO that week. Ruth, the practitioner, placed needles in me all around my body while I was being treated. Then she left me. After ten minutes, or more, I thought Ruth would return to check on me. Instead, I lay there with pain shooting in my left hand. I shouted, "Someone, please, help me. I am in pain! Please, help me.!" I repeated this numerous times over the thirty minutes or so. Then, when no one came to help me, I begahn to cry. When the practitioner returned, finally, she was surprised to see I was covered in tears. Ruth said I should return every week for treatment. I thought about making another appointment. Following the events of the rest of that week, I cancel eled the future appointments. The next day, I developed a rash on my left groin. I went to Urgent Care on Wednesday to deal with the rash. That evening my finger swelled more and became extremely painful. I suffered all of Wednesday night with the pain in my finger. In the following morning at 8 AM. , the Urgent Care provided me with an appointment for my hand. The doctor said an infected finger can become really nasty, so you should have go to an ER if it gets any worse. She prescribed antibiotics, but they didn't really seem to work. I woke up at 7 PM with a big black sore around my finger where it was infected. There were red streaks streaming up my arms. I went to the ER near my place in Littleton. There, I was transferred to a different hospital where surgery was performed at two o'clock in the afternoon. That was Thursday. Now, it is Monday and I am still in the hospital waiting to see if I will have to have another surgery to clean out the infection. I am grateful for the medical professionals who are helping me.
