This might be one of the most beautiful hotels in Italy. Perched on top of the 2800 year old Etruscan village of Cortona, (where the movie Under the Tuscan Sun was filmed), this old Monastery has been converted into a luxury hotel. Absolutely breathtaking inside and out. Crystal chandeliers, marble floors and walls and artwork. When we arrived, we were greeted with a welcome drink, a local favorite, a blueberry fizz -- a nice welcome. The staff were exceptional -- friendly, helpful, knowledgeable. The room was elegant, comfortable, immaculate, quiet, and restful. There is an outdoor pool and spa. Everything worth seeing in Cortona is a short walk. Be advised, there are no flat streets in Cortona, so you will be walking up and down for every excursion. The restaurant's breakfast was beautiful, served in an outdoor courtyard and a perfect way to start each day. Parking available in their garage, so be sure to make a reservation for a spot should you drive there. Otherwise parking is outside the city walls and could be quite a trek. read more
