In addition to Dr. Emmons' extensive training and credentials, what distinguishes this gentleman is his genuine concern for the patient's well-being. Furthermore, he is supported by a loyal and long-time team of nurses who respond to inquiries promptly and thoroughly. The receptionist was very nice, as was the tech, but when that smug little doctor walked in, it all went downhill. He asked what I was being seen for. Before I could finish my first sentence, he was interrupting me and correcting my choice of verbiage. When I said "ok, I'm sorry if I used the wrong term," he became obsessed with it and continued to explain what meant precious little to me. Really! Allergy attack...allergic reaction...I'm in need of a doctor, not a rhetoric lesson, and I said that! His obsession with correcting my English never actually allowed me to explain why I was there. He kept jabbing at my explanation, and speaking to me as if I were a complete idiot. I even asked him to stop interrupting, hear me out, and if he wanted to correct me he could do it after I explained myself. He continued to only focus on my grammar, and never on the actual reason I was there. I started to get a really bad feeling. Finally, after several interrupted attempts to tell him what my symptoms were, and what caused them, I had to trust my gut. I stopped talking, picked up my purse and said I didn't think it was a good idea for him to treat me as a patient, and walked out of the exam room. I went back to the receptionist and asked for to hand my check back-which after telling her what had just happened, she did without hesitation! She even said it's happened before, but "not that much" I told her not to dare to put that through my insurance. Save yourself from time spent with this guy. Just see another physician.

I just got off the phone with someone from my nurse practitioner's (Shelly Cartwright) office. I…read morehave a very nasty cold which is making my asthma flare up and I need a new rescue inhaler. Sounds easy, right? The woman who called told me repeatedly that I had never been seen there. That's not true--I've been going there for about ten years. She finally said I hadn't been seen since the new charting system. How was I supposed to know what she was talking about? She also told me more than once that they weren't seeing sick patients because of the pandemic and I can't get a prescription without being seen. Sounds like a catch 22, right? At the very end she asked if I wanted to be transferred to one of the "girls" (are they employing high schoolers?) to schedule a televisit. So they ARE seeing patients, just not in person. I was so frustrated by the end of the call, I said no. Hey, Northwestern, when you have a minute, train the people on the phone to say, "Since you haven't been here since we changed systems..." and "We're not seeing patients in person, but we can set up a televisit" so that someone who is sick doesn't feel she's out of luck because "she's never been seen and they're not seeing people, so sucks to be you." This is probably a good time to switch doctors. (P.S. I don't know why Yelp is saying I live in San Francisco--I live in Crystal Lake)

Both my husband and I have been with his practice for 5 years. Everyone is kind and professional and efficient. Appts are easy to make. Waiting time, if any, is brief. They listen to what you say, you're never made to feel rushed, they give you options, and they guide you to the best path of treatment. Labs can be drawn there with results given within appropriate times. Return calls are always completed. Dr. Salvi is warm and friendly and shares himself as a real person. He is the first doctor we've had in a long time who really seems to give you his full, caring attention. He contributes useful practical information in a discussion and brings good common sense into his practice as well as medical expertise.
