Tracy, the owner of Friends and Family made it very apparent that we were replaceable as she has a waitlist a year long! Backstory: My fiancé Olga and I had our first child at the end of May. We were fortunate enough to be in a position that Olga could work from home and then work part time at her office after our daughter was born. Our lease was up in September and so we were looking to move to the Clinton, Tecumseh, Adrian area. Friends and Family came highly recommended by one of our close friends who currently have their son enrolled there. They did not have an opening in the infant room until the start of the year but that was fine as our schedules allowed Olga to continue to work part time in the office while continuing to care for our child. At the start of daycare our daughter 7 months old and her and Olga formed a close bond so we knew that starting daycare was going to be a big change for our daughter. Olga expressed our concerns to Tracy but was assured that everything would be okay. On Monday, 1/2/2023 our daughter started day care and as suspected after a few hours was extremely fussy and we offered to come pick her up. Again this happened on Tuesday, and again we offered to pick her up early. On Wednesday our daughter immediately freaked out once she realized where she was but we left her hoping that she would be consoled and calm down after we were gone. Unfortunately this did not happen and again we picked her up. We tried discussing ways to help with the transition and how to make this easier for everyone and it was decided that I drop her off on Thursday. Thursday morning came and I dropped our daughter off and again immediately she began crying and we received message that she was inconsolable and that they have never had a baby be this fussy after 3-4 days in daycare. Again we picked up our daughter and Olga had a conversation with Tracy which left her very upset. Please note at no point did anyone from Friends and Family suggest to just leave her for the full day and let her cry it out or figure out that being fussy is not going to get us to come pick her up. In fact, it was quite the opposite and we were told essentially that Val's crying was being very disruptive to the other babies in the room and Tracy was concerned staff would quit over having to handle a fussy baby... After talking it over with friends who infants in day care, I reached out to Tracy in an effort to discuss the situation and how we can make this transition easy for everyone. During the conversation, Tracy' did make a few suggestions that could be helpful and we will be trying them, the overall impression I gained from the conversation was that my child is replaceable and if she does not become a model baby and not fussy within the next week we will be asked to leave. To quote Tracy during this conversation, "I have a wait list a year out and I can find another infant." Following our conversation I sent Tracy an email expressing our concerns and that it was apparent that our daughter is expected to fall in line or we would be asked to leave and that Friends and Family would not be providing any extra help during the transition process and that ultimately we have decided to terminate the relationship. Within 11 minutes of that email Tracy simply provided the most apathetic response of "Sorry that we couldn't work on this but with state guidelines we have to follow it was hard to do what Olga wanted us to do." We simply needed some guidance and asked for some extra help provided to our 7 month old daughter while she goes through this transition. We were not expecting such help to be provided indefinitely and if after a few weeks it was still a problem then we will look at other options. To further solidify my opinion that Tracy only cares about the money and all our children are easily replaceable. Not only did they not offer a refund of our deposit but about an our after terminating our relationship with Friends and Family Daycare I received an invoice for the four, half-days that our daughter spent there. See the attached email. Do yourself a favor and find another day care facility who actually cares about you and your family especially if you think your child transitioning to day care will be difficult or you might end up writing a similar email.

This school does NOT take bullying. I've seen several kids get suspended/expelled for fighting and bullying in general. Every school is going to have its pros and cons but this school is absolutely one of the best for curriculum, and attention to detail when teaching you're children. I strongly feel that if you have the chance to send you're children here that they would benefit from not only educational but morally too. This is the best school for lots of children and these schools vary based on each individual school so judging all based on one won't work. You'll have to see for yourself! Truly great school!! I am so pleased with the professional and amazing treatment Tina shows in this school. I saw the review before mine and as a mom of a preschooler there, I can stand behind the tough choice she had to make as a director because I am 100% confident that any choice like that is one that had great effort and thought before making such a tough decision. Yes, children can get testy, but I know the staff speaks daily to parents as to what kind of day our children had and bring up any concerns they may have and I also know that a child would never just get released. When these young children are to a point where it is placing other children, or even staff, at ongoing risk,( which would play a large part for a release), difficult choices have to be made, regardless if it were verbal or physical. I am grateful to know that these teachers care so much and I know that the choices that are made are done because of the care they have. On another note, I am absolutely AMAZED with what my daughter learned this year! She begs to go to school when it is a day she isn't scheduled to go. I was beyond confident for her kindergarten screening due to how well prepared she is from the education she was given here. I in fact have a daughter whom attends this childcare. She has been nothing but loved on by her teachers in the time she has been attending. While the education and lessons are lacking I have begun to see an improvement in the curriculum. This change I've seen in a short amount of time since a tenured director / directors assistant step down from their positions and the new "agnostic" director took over. ( Not sure why a couple of "Christian" women would attack a person who is in search of her creator but anyway I digress. ) Another thing that I have would like to address is while yes it is true about the weirdo that had been found with child pornography did work at the church this news came out several years after working in the childcare and even one on his closest friends was shocked by the news never suspecting this person was involved in such activities. Each staff member that works during childcare hours whether teachers or administrators are vetted through a background check and fingerprinting process. All of the teachers I have ran into when dropping/ picking my child up from daycare have been very kind to my daughter and always have a story to tell about her day. To base your stance on the childcare because of one terrible, disgusting, loathsome egg is unfair. As far as the christianity of this childcare I can attest to the fact that they do indeed pray before meals and possibly nap time as my daughter always reminds my wife and I we have to pray before both activities. While I hope to see further biblical education as the new director takes over and begins to make the necessary changes the childcare needed so badly. The new director is approachable and pleasent to speak with she is always lending a hand to her teachers as I've seen her more out and about assisting the teachers as needed then I ever did under the old administration. She also welcomes suggestions for improvement from both her staff and the parents. She truly has a heart to grow and develop this childcare. As far as the price goes I think the price alone suggests that this is not just business but a ministry to serve the needs of the community. As you could could go anywhere else and spend 2,3, even 4 times the price to get the same care for your child as you do here. As far as the turnover goes here there is quite a bit of turnover but that is to be expected for any minimum wage position. The people that work here aren't in it for the money. They're in because they enjoy their work and take pride in where they work. And those who are there for the pay work there until they can find something better but they also have some very devoted teachers who have been there for 5+ yrs. The atmosphere of the daycare is much lighter and cheerier since the new director has taken over she even has taken the time to brighten the rooms up with some fun child oriented colors. Before I swear to you it felt like you were walking on eggshells and the tension was so thick you could cut it with a knife. While the overall educational curriculum could be improved this is safe place where your child will be loved, cared for and fed for a reasonable price.
