It appears to be a former school auditorium. There is plenty of parking, but it was hard to see initially. We entered via 3rd Street and drove by a baseball field. The OCAF is on a rise about 5 - 8 feet above the level of the road, so you can't really see its closest parking lot until you walk or drive up. I moved the car closer after I realized there was a parking lot up there. You enter past the office and along a hallway of displays of pottery / art for sale. There is also a table with historical objects from the building's school history. The exhibit space was at the end of the hall in the former auditorium. It was laid out as you might expect, with works displayed around the perimeter walls and on some freestanding wall segments in the center of the space. This exhibit was nice, but as I said it was temporary. I assume they rotate other exhibits through the space. This was within a 15-minute drive of Athens, so if you are in that area it is easy to check this place out. We drove out from Atlanta and stopped a a few places on the route, but if you drove straight through it would probably take at least 90 minutes to get here. Depending on what they have on display this is worth a stop.

In addition to being an art gallery and having painting classes, ghost tours are also launched from here. I was lucky enough to go on Ann's tour and it was so fun and interesting. There is SO much history here and Ann knows all of it. I loved hearing the stories at each stop. The thing with a small town is that everyone knows where the bodies are buried.....and there are plenty here in Covington. The first night of our event there was a power outage downtown. That made it the perfect setting for our group! What a great spot with or without electrify! If you have any interest in art or ghosts, this gallery is the place for you.

We were reassured that we would most certainly be able to be seen so we made the hour and a half drive down to paint and were met with complete disrespect from an employee named Percy. He claimed he didn't feel like staying late and didn't care that we had called prior and drove extremely far to be seen. He then pressured his other staff member to make the same call despite our calls prior and stood over me as I asked for a contact number interjecting to the second staff member as I spoke. As someone who works in customer service this was completely disrespectful and inappropriate and I'd hope this isn't the standard that this company holds itself to because honestly it was extremely unnecessary and rude. It's pretty upsetting as we drove over three hours round trip just to be turned down upon arrival and be met with a bad attitude.

They gave a lot of time for the slower painters like me who are brand new to painting. It was an awesome group experience for my family and me. The only thing that I'm knocking one star off for is that I think it would have helped for them to tell people to bring their own glasses for wine when they emailed everyone saying to come early. And to wear old clothes that you won't get paint on. I think that those two sentences that can be emailed to everyone will go a long way. The painting I did was amazing too! It looks great and will be very sentimental to me in the future.

I do not consider myself to be a artist, even in the basic sense of the word. But, the paint strokes are explained, and they will help you if you need it.
