GTC is my fav spot to enjoy a movie! My kiddo absolutely loves the reclining seats and will not go to a movie anywhere else. You also get to pick your seats before you arrive which is so nice! I'm also a sucker for their popcorn always fresh! We even had one of my kiddo's birthday celebrations here and it was fantastic. I love party planning and they let me do it up in their spacious party room. Including letting me bring all table linens, feather vase centerpieces, a cake, table decor, a welcome sign for outside, two paparazzi cardboard cutouts I made that had flashing camera bulbs, a full red carpet (inside the room) and two 10ft Oscar balloon statues that I made. The only downside was that the movie she chose (The Goonies) wasn't available due to licensing but we had a backup and she had a wonderful time watching one of her favorite movies in an entire theater with all of her friends! They even offer snack packages that include drink popcorn and small candy which was great! It was a great Hollywood style affair and we had an absolute blast!! The theater planner and staff we worked with was great very friendly and helpful. Would 100% plan a party here again or rent out one of their comfy and extremely clean theaters. We recently saw The Sheep Detectives there so have to include that as well such a cute and funny film! If you haven't seen a movie here you're missing out go treat yourself!! read more

Been a fabulous Christmas! My sweetie came over for our customary Christmas Steak dinner. She showed us photos of the HOUSE she and her young man had just closed on! It's gorgeous with a beautiful lake view! What a wonderful surprise! I knew they were looking but had no idea they had found THE one. After dinner she and I went to the theatre to see the new WONKA movie. She's always been a huge Willy Wonka fan (Gene Wilder, not that Johnny Depp embarrassment). It was fun but I'm still a little baffled as to why the Oompa Loompas were so small. I mean a 10" Oompa Loompa? Everyone knows that Oompas are at least 3' tall!! Who ever saw a little orange man under a foot tall? Ridiculous. He was a handsome little fella; looked a little like a seasick Hugh Grant with a Big Orange pompadour. Go Vols! read more

This is my faorite theater. The staff remembers us and greets us - gets my closed caption device without my asking. The seats are great - they recline so you are comfortable. The popcorn is fresh and not over salted. I love that its so cool - bring a throw. Couldn't be better. read more

We love this theatre, such an awesome location & we are frequent patrons here, and always leave pleased with our experience! Having a big family it is well over 100 bucks for us to walk in to the movie, so our experience must be good or we will not return. The employees here are almost always appropriate with their service & the bathrooms are clean too, which is huge. The only thing I would like to see better is the quality of their snacks like nachos etc, but that is what is supplied to this theater. 5 star on customer service, cleanliness, and special events they host with kids events and football season. Came here to watch Bad Boys for Life, it was a quick experience to get a ticket. They only had 2 people working concessions on a Tuesday where they do $5 tickets, so you can say the line was quite long and decently slow. They should have had more people working there, but maybe it was just a busier time. Prices for items aren't as horrible as other movie theaters. Seats in the movie theater are great unlike the AMC here. They recline in 2 ways, 1 for moving the leg up, and the other for moving you further back/to lay. The movie theater itself is great all together, just would have recommended more people temporarily working the concessions to get down the influx of people. read more

Saw "Monsters University" with the family (wife and three kids all under 10). Had ultra-high expectations with all the publicity this new theatre received in local media -- reserved seating, brew-n-view, in-house restaurant, IMAX-like screen. I wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't wowed either. Not surprisingly, the complex was very clean in its second weekend of service. The seats in our theatre were very comfortable -- leather with movable armrests (very helpful when a 5-year-old wants to lay on you). Service was very friendly. And concessions were set up differently, with one central service stand for all 16 theaters -- and self-serve drink fountains (not sure if refills are free, but who would stop you?). But I wasn't wowed like I expected. The restaurant is very small -- looking more like a bowling alley-type restaurant than a nice movie theatre restaurant. The reserved seating is a bit confusing -- there really is no information about this on their website. We'll definitely be back because of its convenient location, but other than the "newness," there's really not much that sets it apart from the other Athens' movie theaters. read more

Always clean theaters. Consistently nice crew. One thing I love about this movies theatre is that they show The Walking Dead, UGA games, and most other sporting events here for free! For that very reason I like to frequent the place. Although the seats can fill up fast for a free showing, you can always reserve your seats for these! So if you arrive about 90 minutes early you can pick your seats and then find a place to eat in that area! Other than that these big seats are always clean and tidy. read more

Came here on a Thursday afternoon to watch Venom. It was not busy so it was nice to get in and have the whole theater to myself. The cinema is fairly new and is one of the better theater I have been to in a long time. Once you get in its your usual purchase your ticket and concession stand. They also have a restaurant that serves beers as well, but I did not get a chance to check it out. The seats were really comfortable and would recommend this cinema. read more

Disabled friendly. I love the way we can reserve seats ahead of time, i.e. an open space to back my husband's wheelchair into and the necessary number of seats beside him. To get there, the shortcut is stairs, the long way around is an appropriately sloped aisle. In some theaters the sloped hallway for wheelchairs is too steep, making it difficult for the person pushing the wheelchair, but this hallway is set up correctly. Also, the disabled seating is in a good location relative to the movie screen, not down in the very front like I have seen at some theaters where disabled seating seems to be an afterthought. Like the way we can get our cups for drinks and bucket for popcorn, then just fill and refill at our leisure behind the person who checks our tickets. Once you're past the ticket-person, logistics of having an enjoyable 2-3 hours are easy, even with handicapped family members. I've started recommending this theater to friends who have handicapped family members. Oh, and it's been clean every time I've been there, even the bathrooms. read more

The theatre itself is pretty much your standard, modern theatre. The stadium seating in the GTX screen was pretty decent, but I have seen better (including at other Georgia Theatre Company properties). Two things that made me give University 16 only a 3-star rating: the layout and the bar/restaurant. Firstly, the setup for drinks and popcorn (especially popcorn) can lead to a traffic jam, especially if you go opening weekend to a big movie (as we did with Episode VIII). You order your drink and popcorn size at the ticket counter, and they give you an empty cup to fill yourself (no biggie, especially if you like to put a splash of Dr. Pepper in your Coke), but they also give you an empty popcorn bag to be filled by the employees at the popcorn station after ticket-taking. It was just a weird setup and seemed to cause more of a delay than a convenience. Secondly, there is the restaurant/bar. The complaint is not so much against the establishment itself, but rather against Oconee County and its antiquated, draconian liquor laws. According to the staff, you can take food and drink out of there and to your seat only if you are in Theatre 8, which adjoins the restaurant. So you had better hope that Theatre 8 is showing your "Avengers: Infinity War" and not "Toy Story 17". Oconee County claims this is to limit underage consumption, but there are ways around that. For instance, wristbands. These are a marvel of innovation. Basically, it is a band that is worn around the wrist to indicate that the bearer is of drinking age. They tend not to be prohibitively expensive, and given Oconee County's residents, I think they could be afforded. Needless to say, I would be hesitant to return here (I think we were gifted tickets or something, which is why we went). read more

Kiosk forces you to sit next to someone else, will not let you book otherwise. Assigned seating...can not move once in theater. Also ANY food or beverage is permitted into the theater. Simply put, I believe this is the best theater in GA. New, clean, innovative all describe this place. You are able to refill your own drinks which is a huge plus and the prices seem to be very good for concessions at a movie theater (at least on the drinks). The place has a little bar restaurant inside in case you are afraid to stop to eat somewhere else in fear of being late for the movie. Also, the stadium seat theater is the ONLY one I have ever seen that had the foresight to put enough room in between each row of seats where an adult can get in and out without having other people bend their legs in strange ways or stand up to let them by. Huge props to the University Cinema 16 for that! Huge! The sounds system is excellent, the staff is good, there is plenty of parking and the seats are amongst the most padded/comfortable that I have ever experienced a movie in. Also, unlike all of the Gwinnett County theaters, they have matinee pricing that is way better than just a buck off evening prices and they run matinee pricing up until at least 4:30 or 5:00 pm ($7.50 per person). Thumbs way up on this place. Can't wait to go back! read more

Afternoon movie with my family on a casual Sunday. Went to empty the ice in my drink and just get new ice with a manager yelling the beverage area was closed. Saw no signage anywhere, it wasn't barricaded. Nothing. Said ok. I was just getting ice (as I don't drink soda so wasn't sure if I could also not just get ice) I ASKED if just ice was ok. She yelled again it was closed and use the other one. Ok. No problem. Go to the other one to get ice to then go to the counter where the popcorn is to ask for ice tea as they keep it in the back to hear the manager Colleen talking loudly to another manager Kat imitating and mocking me. I was floored she was so loud! And seriously over ice. I looked at the machines again to see if I missed something. Again nothing but a spray bottle on a counter. I ask for another Manager to complain how unprofessional that was to get Kat- yay. She was shocked and just stared blankly with no words. Then a final unapologetic I'm sorry only after I asked that's is! And who else can I call or talk to. I was told I can complain online. Wow. Just wow. And people wonder why they can't get jobs. No Management skills at this place. Not a ton of options in town so we put up with lines and lack of staff. But jeez. Excellent theater. The tickets are priced well and the student discount is phenomenal ($6.75 with ID). It's clean and well kept and the seats are comfy. The only gripe I have is that the cell service is pretty terrible. If you're planning on Googling whether or not your movie has a stinger at the end, do it before you get to the theater. read more

My family and I have been here quite a few times, usually, my husband and I make it out here without the kids. We really enjoy the large seating that reclines. Also the 21 and over theater that you can press a button and order food while watching the movie. When we have come with the kids it has been good experiences as well. You know just the usual complaint about how all movie theaters hike up the prices of food and drinks. read more

Watched Lone Ranger here on July 4 weekend, and I was looking forward to it, since it just recently opened. I was very disappointed, however, with virtually all aspects of service at the facility. It was very clean and new-looking, as one would expect since it is new. With virtually every other aspect, however, I would say they're experiencing issues with getting their operation really underway. First, we purchased our tickets online and only had to pick them up. It seems that they only have 4 kiosk units that are responsible for all of the sales and pick-up traffic, however, and 2 of them were malfunctioning. So, even though there was a relatively light crowd at the time (less than 10 people trying to purchase or pick up tickets at the same time), I had to wait about 15 minutes just to swipe my card and have the tickets print out. Second, the concession area was incredibly slow. Again, there were only a handful of people waiting for items to be prepared and/or popcorn to be filled. But there was only one employee doing all of the serving and popcorn-filling, so it took another 10 minutes or so just to get a bag of popcorn. My wife and I almost gave up and just went into the theater waiting for her cheeseburger... it was another 5-10 minutes after we got our popcorn before the cheeseburger was ready. (And not for a great cheeseburger, either... just normal movie-theater-quality fare.) Third, there was no music or other pre-show entertainment playing in the theater when we walked in, just awkward silence (other than the sound of the A/C unit). You could hear virtually every conversation being had by every other person in the theater. Then, once the previews began, no one turned the lights down... they were still at 100% full on, which rendered the screen virtually unviewable. Another customer left the theater to tell management about the issue, and the lights were finally turned off about 5 minutes into the movie. (I also thought it odd that there was no "intro" montage between the previews and the movie... you know, where the movie theater company's promo plays and it asks you to turn your cell phones off, etc. The movie literally "just started" immediately after the final preview, with no segue from one to the other. We were wondering if it was really the movie or another preview.) It seems to me that someone made the decision to open this theater ASAP, and did it before it was really ready. To be so poor, the staff must be either poorly trained or poorly supervised (or both). I won't be back until changes are made. A facility so pleasant and nice-looking shouldn't have issues with such poor service. read more

The movie was awesome, and the (assigned seating!) ticket pick-up via credit card super-easy. The theater experience was just... odd. First, I don't understand paying $9 for an empty bag and an empty cup. That throws me off every time (the last time I visited, there was no one to fill the popcorn bag for a few minutes, and I stood around looking confused until someone got a designated popcorn filler for me). Second, I showed my ticket to gain entrance to the theater area and was directed to my theater. However, when I walked through the open door, it was completely dark, with no lights along the wall or ANYTHING, and I had to stumble my way down the dark hall until I finally found a side door to a very BRIGHTLY LIT theater. I found and sat down in my seat, which was relatively comfortable with clean, wide aisles, but it was weird to sit in a really brightly lit theater with total strangers, so well-lit that all of the preview content is completely washed out, thus leading to an awkward 15 minutes waiting for the show to start. Was that a run-on sentence? Anyway, once the previews started, the lights didn't dim, they just went from *SUPER-BRIGHT* to really dark. Is there no medium setting on the light switch?!? The movie was great, but the owner of the theater needs to do some walk-through's and address lighting issues as time goes by. Nonetheless, I'll be back to try again. read more

As movie theater experiences go, there was nothing that unusual, except that when I pay 7 dollars for a handful of popcorn I expect for the popcorn counter dudes to not openly and loudly mock my daughter for the way she looks. Worst customer service at a theatre I've ever encountered! We go to the movies all the time and on four different occasions my kids and have been turned away here because they're showing a pg-13 movie in a 21 and over theatre during the afternoon. They don't tell you this when you check movie times online of course. This last time the the girl working the counter who turned us away for a 12:30 showing told me to come back at 4pm and pointed her fingers at us while clicking her tongue.. what the hell is that? From now on we're using beechwood, they don't have the early show time but we can actually see the damn movie when we go. Now to explain to my 3 year old why the lady said she can't see a movie. read more
