It was a 10 minute walk from the train station and more like 20 minutes to Hurtigruten (shoulda called a taxi for that one). It's very close to Bryggen and the fish market. Also, the Hop On/Hop Off stops right by the fish market and the TI is here too. Room was fine, nothing special but it's a hostel. The roof top deck is a bonus. Kitchen was great for cooking meals but not the cleanest, although that was the fault of other hostel guests.

Overall, YMCA was a solid stay for just a couple of nights. I definitely appreciated the location, it's a quick walk to the tourist info center, the fish market, and the fløibanen. They accept online payment but note that towel rental is 10 NOK in cash. As far as accommodation, this is about as basic as it gets. Cheap bunk beds, itchy sheets, and only one set of plugs in the corner so everyone gets to fight to charge their electronics at night.

The morning breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of spectacular food choices that one could safely start the day without thinking of the next break. For dinner, the hotel restaurant was not only more quiet and off touristy sections in the city center, but it provided spectacular 5-star choices on point that left nothing to desire.

We had a large sitting area with a couch and other furniture and being on the 2nd (European 1st floor) meant we could just use the stairs for our coming and going. Housed in a former bank, the lobby restaurant had an impressive feel and the central location-just a short walk to key sites, the ferry, and restaurants worked well for us. In general it has what you'd expect from a high end luxury boutique including prices. The disappointment was the restaurant and hotel bar. On our first night we arrived late from the ferry and stopped in to the tiny lobby bar for a drink. The whiskey sour from their bar men tasted like unsweetened lemonade and was almost in drinkable. On another night after a long day, we dined in the French Bistro themed restaurant and had an underwhelming meal. Not what one expects at this level of establishment. Bottom line-a great place to stay, just skip the hotel bar and restaurant.

Evangelism aside, they didn't seem to know what's going on (this morning, two of them argued as they tried to figure out how to run a vacuum). So it's poorly maintained, and a little smelly and dirty. Worse, though, is that these students are working illegally in the country without a visa. They climb up and down ladders, perform building maintenance and prepare food without the high quality standards you expect from organizations overseen by the local and federal government. Someone is eventually going to get hurt, and there's no adult in charge. And of course, they're gleefully being exploited by their college, and whoever owns this building.

The rooms are quite a tight fit if you have larger suitcases (in a retrofitted historic-building way) but manageable, and the dining is good. That said, for most tourists on a sightseeing schedule, it would be extremely helpful if breakfast was offered before 7:30 a.m. I also did not appreciate having to ask the front-desk clerk for coffee at 7 a.m. I watched her deal with admin and suitcase issues, then claw-grab two cups by the rim to serve me and my spouse. When I slipped over to the self-serve machine in the closed dining room to have a second cup, she chided me for doing so and told me I should have come to her at the desk for it. I did not wish to debate how unsanitary her service had been, but it was not the easiest way to start the morning, and 7 a.m. access to the self-serve would solve that.

There is a wall full of over 40 metal placards with famous people's autographs: Bjorn Borg, Deep Purple, Backstreet Boys, Jerry Seinfeld... When we checked in, we were given an upgrade to a room with 2 double beds (which is odd as I was unable to book 2 double beds). The room was spacious and beds were comfortable. There is free wifi. There was a complimentary breakfast... and dinner! The complimentary dinner was a nice surprise - it was chili with rice, lentil soup, chickpea salad, cucumber salad, quinoa and bread. It was tasty and saved us both money and effort to find a good restaurant. The breakfast was varied and excellent. The hotel boasts a tower with a gorgeous view and it does not disappoint (see photos). We would definitely stay here again! Our only regret was that we only stayed here 1 night!

Not ideal, but not a deal breaker. Rooms were comfortable enough; what I would consider your normal "European" style room - very efficiently arranged to not waste space, but also not too much area to spread out your things, especially in the bathroom! Convenient location on the harbor in the heart of Bergen - great walking to most of what you would want to do in town/tourist attractions.

Of all the quaint spots to stay in this quiet harbor village, we decided that the ONE mofriggen hotel nestled right in the middle of a sweaty Scandinavian dance party was where we wanted to get our shut eye. Gah. Despite being annoyed through a night plagued by perpetual EDM, Bergen was magical AF and MHX's proximity to everything was not half bad. That said, I'm willing to put my otherwise emotional rant aside to endorse this place as "a great location to stay [after you drug yourself to sleep with allergy medicine and wear headphones!]"

You can pay a little extra and can park your car near by. It is centrally located with easy walking to most places downtown. The cobblestone streets in Bergen are a bit difficult for the elderly. My 81 year old mother struggled with them. The staff is very friendly and helpful. When I had food poisoning from my last dinner in Bergen they were very good to me and allowed very late checkout.
