We've been here in november 2010. Nice rooms. Kind owners. Great prices. And it is not far away (1-2 min.) from the train station "Montebello". Next time I'm in Oslo, I'll visit this guesthouse again. read more

Good luck fellow travelers. On a good note I do not think there was any bed bugs!!

Now the bad news. Apart from being a clean hotel room in a pleasant location, there is nothing to recommend about this hotel. When I arrived at about noon on a Saturday I wanted to have lunch while I waited for my room to be readied. I was told that the restaurant (there is only 1) was closed. Apparently Norwegians don't eat lunch on Saturdays. On Sunday I went for breakfast and was told that there was no need to sign for my breakfast because it was complimentary. There was a very good reason for that. If the guests had not eaten the food the hotel was serving up there would have been nothing else they could do with it. Even the humanitarian relief societies operating in Yemen and Chad would have rejected it as unfit for human consumption.

The breakfast was one of the better spreads we experienced in Norway during our 9 day trip. Lots of clean fluffy towels, great water pressure, nice hotel robes (I am a basic B!). Windows opened, thankfully, as they were having a heat wave and there is no A/C here so that was not ideal but at least they provided a fan which did help a bit.

The location couldn't have been better and we had only a short walk for our onward exploration in Norway. It was also close to the MUNCH museum as well as the opera house and very central for using the public transport to get around Oslo. The hotel itself is very up to date and our suite had all the expected amenities from power access to big modern bathroom. One complaint and I've seen this elsewhere in Europe, is your inability to control the temperature in your room. If you want it cooler you have to make a request to the front desk. Our room on the 6th floor was fairly large (by European standards) and was comfortable with a nice view to the train station. Our rate included the lavish breakfast buffet with loads of choices as well as a few made to order items like eggs Benedict and something I've never seen in Europe-bagels! A lovely stay except for the warm and stuffy room. Oddly they keep the hallways and other public spaces cooler. Be sure also to check out the fantastic hip cocktail bar-pier 42-in the lobby. The location honestly can't be beat since it's right across from the central station, which makes getting around Oslo (and even to the airport) super easy. You're also within walking distance of the Opera House, Karl Johans gate, and lots of restaurants and shops. The hotel itself is clean, modern, and straightforward. Check-in is done at self-service kiosks, which was quick and painless, and the staff I interacted with were friendly and helpful. My room was on the smaller side, but it was well designed with good storage, a comfortable bed, and a nice shower. Wi-Fi worked perfectly too. A couple of things to keep in mind: this isn't a full-service hotel. There's no daily housekeeping unless you ask, and there's no restaurant on site, just a breakfast bag you can buy or snacks at the "barception." If you want more variety, there are great bakeries and cafés right outside. Also, if you're sensitive to noise, ask for a courtyard-facing room since the station area can be lively at night. Overall, I'd say this place is perfect if you want a clean, affordable, and super central base in Oslo without paying for extras you might not need. I'd definitely stay here again.
