There was no rest, but a perfect way to jumpstart the vacation. We then enjoyed a peaceful ride (FREE upgrade to first class) on the train to Bordeaux, France. On day 4 of our adventure we boarded a river cruise ship which was an ALL-INCLUSIVE 8 day wine cruise offering excursions at wineries, castles and MOST IMPORTANTLY some much needed "down-time" for shopping. We had the opportunity to take pictures throughout, the light displays in the neighborhood we drove around were beautiful and our driver Tim was very pleasant. We almost did a trolley Christmas lights tour but I think it's worth it to pay more and do this for the extra special touches and extra room- especially if you are plus sized like myself or extremely tall like my fiancé. There was definitely quite a bit of confusion at first on where to meet our driver. The email mentioned a sears parking lot at Boise Towne Square but there dosen't seem to be a Sears there so they may want to make some updates with the directions. I called Carolyn who told me that the meeting spot was a parking lot behind a hotel that is across from the mall and she stated to look for the classic convertible stating the driver already arrived there... well, we found the hotel lot she mentioned but the car was nowhere to be found so I called the driver whose number she gave us and he said he was on his way and would be there in 5 minutes ..so must have been some miscommunication on their end lol Aside from that though, it was a great experience and we would do it again!

Who wouldn't love a luxurious hotel that has penguins in one section of the grounds?!?! We had great views of the landscape from our room and enjoyed our stay there. The location was great since it was by the ocean with incredible views of the mountains to wake up to, yet still near a shopping center that had an outstanding restaurant called Monkeypod Kitchen. The hotel was also located pretty close to Lahaina, which is a cute town and one of the highlights of Maui. This was one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed at! The hotel had nice staff and was clean enough for my picky standards. Lori was great to work with, and I'd definitely recommend Luxiva Travel to other couples or families looking to add elegance and comfort to their travels.

What an unbelievable, beautiful experience. I apologize in…read moreadvance for how long this got, but I'm still ecstatic about the trip and started gushing. I had always been curious about this kind of travel, long before I'd ever heard the word "overland". When the covered wagons struck out westward, how did they prepare for a life on the road? What do long-range sailors pack with them on their boats for a month at sea? What would I want to bring with me if I was going for an extended trip to places where I could expect absolutely no support or resources? I wanted to try it for myself, but I knew I didn't have the hands-on experience to outfit a vehicle on my own, but without a vehicle where could I learn? I needed to gain some experience in someone else's rig. That's what led me to Idaho Overland Adventures. After looking over their options, we decided to go for the guided tour that they offer. My girlfriend and I packed what seemed like impossibly light bags for a four-day trip ("just some clothes and a toothbrush", they said), and came to Boise. The guides: Our guides were Joe and Brianne, the owners. They were amazing guides, highly experienced, and I was immediately glad that we opted for the guided tour. The trip starts with a briefing on the setup of the rigs, the planned route and contingencies, and safety and communication procedures. I'm an airline pilot, and everything about the setup, down to the use of checklists and the radio procedures, reminded me of the behind-the-scenes preparation to make a flight happen safely. It was far better organized and professional than I'd ever expected. The rigs: The trucks are outfitted brilliantly. Everything has its place, there's nothing unnecessary or useless, and while we were more than equipped for our four days on the road, there is room to prepare for a much longer trip if you want to. It was truly amazing how much equipment was on board, all of it well thought-out and easy to access. The terrain: The route we took was beautiful Idaho backcountry. Following river valleys, then up into mountains and back down through dense forested land, as steam from hot springs poured from the faces of the rocks, I was amazed at how much the scenery changed as we drove on. We came late in the season, so the terrain in places was alternately snowy, muddy, or wet. This was where I was REALLY glad we'd done the guided tour. At my own experience level, there were several points where I wouldn't have been comfortable continuing on my own, and would have turned back to find an alternate route. But Joe has so much experience out there that he was able to teach us some of the technical driving skills we needed. Not for a moment did it feel like we were beyond the capabilities of our guides and equipment, and I learned the most at precisely the points in the terrain that I would have shied away from if I had been on my own. The camping: This trip was all about being on the move, but you have to sleep at night, right? Again, we were astonished at how efficiently all the equipment was set up. The tent (a pop-up type, set up on the roof of the rig, with a ladder) was cozy, our guides got a big, warm fire going, quickly unfolded a sizable kitchen and made us AMAZING meals. "Camp food" was fun as a kid, but four days of hot dogs and frozen hamburger patties doesn't hold the same charm that it once did. We ate fresh salmon, steak, or chicken, prepared with veggies, and after a long, bumpy day at the wheel, it tasted like the best thing I'd ever eaten. I am so glad that I did my trip with Idaho Overland Adventures. I'm proud to have learned and used some new skills, and gained some real, hands-on overland driving experience. Any other type of tour in…read morethis city is likely going to cost you at least twice as much, so if you're looking to just get a quick look at parts of downtown on a dime, this is the tour for you. As mentioned, this is meant to be a fairly quick (1.5 hours) walking tour of part of downtown Boise to just get a brief sense of the city's history and culture. Our tour guide focused a lot of time and information on the Basque region and culture, and the rest of the time on some of the architecture and brief history of how the certain buildings came to be. The first half or so of the tour was very engaging and I definitely learned some interesting facts. But during the last half of the tour, I found my attention wandering off more than a few times as the guide shared stories that in my opinion ate up too much time, and weren't always related to Boise, which was a bit confusing. Don't get me wrong, it was an extremely friendly, upbeat, and clearly knowledgeable tour guide--I just would have liked learn a broader sense of Boise's downtown history rather than focusing in on facts and stories that don't necessarily help you appreciate the city. But with our guide we also got access to areas you might not otherwise see if you're only in town briefly, like a special Basque sports club and the Egyptian Theater. He also shared lots of valuable opinions on other places to go and things to experience. Overall, you can't beat the price, it's a leisurely walking tour, and you might learn some interesting history (perhaps more than you even care to learn!). It'd be a great tour for those who are unsure of what to do or where to go, and regardless, downtown Boise is a beautiful and entertaining area that you'll enjoy experiencing on foot.

This was mine and my wife's first visit to Europe. We booked the trip through Vista Travel agency…read moreand had a 16-day Portugal/Spain planned with a group of 17 other travelers that included the owner of Vista Travel, Cathy Evans. Here are some of the things that happened on our trip: * Cathy brought up politics during our first group meal, prompting us to ask her to leave politics aside while we enjoy our trip. Bringing it to her attention only caused her to more frequently bring up her political views. * Frequently if we saw someone doing something dumb or silly, Cathy would retort back with "must be Canadian." For example, there was a sign at a spot near a cliff on the Atlantic Ocean that clearly said no trespassing. When I mentioned how ridiculous those people were to disregard the signage, she kept saying, "oh they're probably Canadian." * When our tour guide mentioned that the American Embassy in Lisbon built a beautiful wall around their campus, Cathy loudly said, "I wish Trump would take notes!" This was the first of numerous statements she kept making about building walls. * Our Portuguese tour guide was with us for 13 days. Cathy refused to learn his name properly. Because she couldn't pronounce João, she decided to just call him J-Wow. * Cathy openly mocked the accents of all the tour guides we had, openly and to their faces, while speaking broken English to members of our group. * Cathy was condescending to almost every member of our group at some point, and regularly condescending to the select few that weren't on her side of the political spectrum. * Cathy: "Why do they have to call it soccer in America? Why do we have to change the names of everything? It's probably because of those flaming liberals."?!?!? * When our tour bus was parking next to another tour bus that was unloading Asian tourists, she yelled out, "two points for each Japanese" referring to people. When several told her how horrible that was she said, "ok, then ten points for Chinese." * Cathy got everyone little red bandanas to take for our day trip to Pamplona (famous for the Running of the Bulls). My wife put hers in her pocket because she didn't have anywhere to tie it. It fell out at some point and another woman from our group picked it up to give back to my wife. Mike, Cathy's husband grabbed it out of her hands and said, "If she can't be responsible enough, then she doesn't deserve it." When we found out what had happened, my wife asked Mike for it back. He then informed her Cathy had it. When my wife asked Cathy for it back, she wouldn't look at her, but scoffed and threw it in her face. * Shortly after the bandana incident, Cathy couldn't figure out how to get back to the bus. Another woman on the tour knew exactly where it was and said so. Cathy completely ignored her and continued to try to find it on google maps. Several of us decided to go ahead since we also knew where the bus was. Several people reported back to us that she said "I don't care a flying leap if they follow that little f***er" (referring to me). * The next day, Cathy knew we were upset about the previous day's events. Instead of apologizing or making things right, she refused to talk to us, tell us any information that we needed, and kept making comments like "Oh, I might offend someone." or "some people have to be so sensitive about everything." Once Cathy figured out that we didn't agree with her politically, she went out of her way to bring up politics as much as possible. She would glance over our way when making these comments, appearing to look for a reaction. She did her best to isolate us but ended up dividing the group and making many people uncomfortable. Political discussions in mixed company are not a great ingredient in international travels, and the owner of the travel agency should not be the one bringing up such divisive topics. I would not recommend using this agency solely based on the owner's behavior on this trip.

Most recently, I sought her expertise for a trip with my extended family (I was looking to take a vacation with my family of four AND my parents--throwing around many options from a trip back to the wine country to a cruise, which was what we ultimately decided upon). Always professional, Cathy helped us navigate the intricacies of traveling with seniors and children. I couldn't have been more pleased. The prices she has quoted me have always been competitive and, most importantly, she is incredibly knowledgeable. She thinks of things I wouldn't have even thought of asking about. I also have referred a friend to her (which I'm always a little apprehensive about) to help plan his London adventure and he reported to be entirely pleased. He said that the flight she booked him was the same price as the cheapest flight he could find online with a much better itinerary (phew!). So, if you're looking for an adventure and would like someone else to do all the work for you (finding flights, travel itineraries etc, etc, etc,)--call them!
