The- shelter tested her with cats after I left and we all made the decision Pearl would not be a good fit- she was very tense around the cat they introduced her to. The employees were SUPER patient and kind, which i appreciated because I was indecisive and nervous (but excited) about adding another cat to our household. The setup to meet cats is unusual-- you go into the room behind the cat cages and can open them one at a time to meet the animals. I thought it was a really good setup. We were asked to wash our hands in between times to avoid spreading germs. They also have reading rooms where you can sit and read to extra shy cats to help socializing them. I didn't look at dogs, but it seemed like they were working hard to take good care of them and socialize them as well. I think if we ever decide to get another animal I'd try here.

Nine years of recurring ear infections, always treated the same way, but suddenly there's a "new and improved" treatment option at twice the price, with half the explanation. When I pointed out that "the best" to me means balancing cost, care, and minimizing return visits for chronic issues, I was met with silence--followed by a profanity-laden outburst from the vet himself, in the hallway no less (and this is a man who touts being 'a man of God'). My daughter brings her little dog to this vet. When her dog got attacked one afternoon by a large…read moredog in the neighborhood, we showed up at the vet. Dr. Beck said he could take care of her as soon as he was done with another appointment, or that we could go to the emergency vet in Latham, but said we may have to wait there as well [not to mention the time driving there]. The poor little dog had seven lacerations, and was bit through the ear. It was a miracle from God that she did not bleed much, or die. Dr. Beck kept her overnight in their hospital, and we were not charged much , considering the seriousness of the injuries and the hospital stay. His staff was helpful in the follow-up, as well, we brought her in twice with concerns about her staples, and when she had a seizure. Both times, the Dr was not in, but the staff was very helpful. This happened almost 2 years ago, and the dog is doing well.
