Since stumbling upon the Soho/Kingly Court location, I've been a hardcore fan of this cafe's…read moresalads. One might assume you'd be paying top dollar in central London for locally sourced, freshly prepared salads, soups, curries, and desserts, but Detox Kitchen proves otherwise. Get a large "salad" for a mere £7.95 take-out. Choose from 8-9 options behind the counter, and build a hearty meal by mixing 3-4. Think hearty and colorful vegetable medleys from WholeFoods' salad bar, but a fraction of the price since you're not paying by-the-ounce. Medleys include delicious vegetables such as squash, kale, eggplant, and zucchini, which they toss in a variety of light dressings made of lemon juice, ground sunflower seeds, miso, and curry. Add in protein for an additional £3, and choose from hearty portions of things like tofu and salmon.
This location on Mortimer in Fitzroy is also great because it's set aside from the chaotic center of Soho. It also provides adequate seating for larger parties (the cafe in Kingly Court is super tiny with minimal seating, and a tight squeeze around the counter), and also has booth seating with power outlets for those looking for co-working space. I particularly have enjoyed working here because there's complimentary mint and lemon water on the tables, free WiFi, great facilities, and is also attached to their Yoga studio (hence the name, The Studio by Detox Kitchen). They've made great use of the space, and it's not as claustrophobic-feeling as the Soho location.
Staff have always been super friendly and welcoming, willing to explain all the dishes in detail, un-rushed and patiently. They also greet you when you walk into the door, and serve up more than just generous portions of everything, from the salads to the hot soups and dishes. I often overhear people saying, "I could make two meals out of this." You really can.
Pro-tip: make sure to get there before late afternoon because they tend to run out of popular salad options as well as the hot dishes.
Personal suggestion to be taken with a grain of salt: avoid the "fresh mint" tea as it's rather pricey and is merely hot water with a single sprig of mint w/2-3 small leaves. You can barely taste the essence of mint. You're better off ordering the mint tea from a bag.
