    Tasting room

If you like a quaint tasting room and hearing all about the history of this winery this is your place! Small family owned winery, great story of how they started out. We were there on a rainy day so sat inside but there is a lovely outdoor patio area too. Super knowledgeable staff, delicious wine. Get ready to learn everything you need to know about wine and more from the owner Mark! Give them a visit Cheers

We found this winery through Groupon and we are so thankful! First of all the website of this family owned winery says the tasting room is really just a table in a corner of a warehouse, but it's so much more and totally worth the drive. The drive from Sacramento is pretty beautiful so that is a plus. We did our visit on a Saturday and it was beginning to feel like spring in February, but not all the way there yet and we weren't sure what to expect for the weather. We entered the parking lot (which we drove by at first) and there were signs pointing toward the back of a house above the lot to follow to the winery. We passed the cutest patio seating overlooking the vineyard a bay/garage door - around an unassuming corner and found a door marked 'Entrance' so we knew we were in the right place. We walked in, not knowing what to expect at all, like was there just the one table? Did they really want guests? But once we opened the door, we were warmly greeted and given tasting glasses and a menu. The staff knows just about everything about wine and what makes each bottle unique - they should because they're family who work together to make it! We learned that their wine focuses on the Italian varietals so I had not heard of the names of each bottle so it was pretty much my first wine tasting ever at this point LOL. But now after tasting everything, I am going to start planning my Italian wine vacation right after publishing this post. We knew we were going to be buying a bottle and I could NOT choose my favorite. I basically would be great buying any thing and everything there. I could have just thrown a dart at the tasting menu and been 100% happy with whatever I ended up with. Their bathroom was very clean and they supplied high quality toilet paper so this is also how you know they care about their patrons. We love this place and highly recommend anyone who is interested in wine tasting great wine in Grass Valley. 5 stars are not enough.

Nice, relaxing and peaceful environment. Excellent service from friendly, knowledgeable staff. Also, the selection of wines was amazing. "Just Go!" Don't Stop

Beautiful and peaceful, perfect for dates or hanging out with friends

Me and my husband got a Groupon and came to Montoliva vineyard for the first time. It's such a peaceful place, the owner is super friendly and the staff is really nice. We loved the wine and left with 4 bottles! It's the perfect place if you want something relaxing and laid back but still luxurious. Definitely coming back

We randomly stumbled upon this beautiful hidden gem. Can we talk about the amazing red wine selection this place has?? And the ambiance/view?! Great services and great wines, we loved it and will definitely be back!!

The closest winery to Reno (outside of Truckee) and what a delightful find on July 4th. Super informative and the owner and producer of the wine, Mark, was very thorough in his explanation. This was off the Colfax exit and located in the Chicago Park area of Grass Valley. Parking in the field next to the home unless you luck out in front of the home. Entrance to the winery on the west side of the garage. Seating area in the back with a view of the vineyards. Mark brought us through about 11 wines. Mark was "alone" today but did an outstanding review of all the wines we tasted. The tasting was free. We were so happy this was the first stop and closest to I-80. You can join their club and save a few bucks on each bottle of wine. A perfect place for a picnic, you can bring your own snacks and food so pack a cooler. The winery where the barrels are is smaller than I expected but wonderful to know this is a small estate with a big family feel. Considering joining their club and definitely joined the email list. Mark knows his wines well and we will be back for a picnic. If you visit, visit closer to the opening, likely to get a better seat :)!

This spot was perfect! Visiting from Phoenix and it was great start to my day. We came for wine tasting and the lady who poured us our wine was so sweet and knowledgeable! The wine tasting is free but I walked out two bottles because they were too good to pass up!

My fiancé and I recently went here, we had a Groupon for wine tasting and we had never been before. It was such a beautiful drive to the winery. About 40 minutes from Roseville. Rachel was our wine hostess and SO sweet, she was so on top of explaining the wines and just being so kind to us. I think we sampled 6 wines? All were delicious, it was fun to learn the dad (wine maker) made a special wine for his wedding! His daughter is Rachel, it was truly a family owned winery. We had beautiful views at golden hour as we sampled. At the end, our Groupon allowed for 4 bottles of wine and two engraved glasses. So amazing. It was such a good experience. Thank you Montoliva!

Mark, Gina And Ryan are fantastic. But their wines are even better. I've been a member about 3 years, and look forward to not only my member shipments (which I pick up), but just visiting their serene location alone or with friends. It's a great place to bring some cheeses and do a tasting. All the wines are very well priced, especially for the quality and if you're a member, even better. If you're passing through and looking for a great break, this is a fantastic spot to kick your feet up with a nice glass over the all Italian vines.

The owner and his daughters were most excellent hosts. Full of knowledge, friendly and very welcoming. Wine selection was really good. I would recommend visiting Montoliva!

Spent the afternoon here and wanted to give it another good review. My wife and I brought lunch, did a wine tasting and took a bottle home with us. Ryan, the owners daughter did most of our pours for the tasting, she was so nice to talk to and very informative about the wines as well as the winery itself. She made the entire experience pleasurable and fun. We will continue to return.

The picture of this location is a tad deceiving but the view from up top was absolutely stunning ! I'm sure back then it was awesome but it needs some major renovations & some major cleaning. My husband suggested this winery which was our 1st time visit w/ family. I think we were all a bit taken back by the tasting room which was run down , the only organized room was the wine on the racks , the bathroom was dirty & eeeeek :/ & very cold ! Our wine host was not present when we arrived & we did have a reservation. I can't remember his name but he was genuinely nice but he came in from the vineyard & wasn't like your typical wine host you find in Napa, Plymouth or Livermore or Auburn/Newcastle, Paseo Robles . I will simply say that if you're a wine snob this is definitely not the place to venture too. Once again if you're a wine snob the wines will probably not be appealing to your palate. The wines are decent, we did purchase a sparkling which was the best out of all the ones we tasted. I don't like sparkling wines & this one was fairly decent. Remember your 1st impression is also your last impression upon entering the impression has been made & your mind has already been made up ! I didn't take picture of the inside, Please visit the wine bar not the actual vineyard .

As we did not know our schedule today, we did not make an appointment, but I wanted to drive and check out the winery anyway.
