Shopping for another wine club... Love supporting the locals. Quality/Quantity - What a great find. I am a red drinker, you would know if you are following. I liked all three of their available reds; all of which had a fruity sweet flavor. Even the port was light and sweet; it did not have a strong alcohol taste. Atmosphere - Beautiful views!! And you can see as far as Tahoe. 13.5 miles off of 80, and you have to drive through some "back roads;" not an easy place to find. Good thing for 4-wheel drive and GPS. One of the few wineries in this area that is open 7 days a week from noon to 5pm; Thank you! Plenty of parking. You can also bring your own picnic baskets. :) It is so nice that you also host weddings here - 8 just last year! Service - Linda Clough (founder) is amazing. As we did not know our schedule today, we did not make an appointment, but I wanted to drive and check out the winery anyway. They let us in with no problems. :) The friendly employee greeted us as we entered the gate and called Linda to meet us at the tasting room. What service! Linda gave us a tasting, then suggested we get a glass while touring the vineyard. Then we relaxed on the patio overlooking the vineyards towards Lake Tahoe. What a great place to take a break from our road trips. We talked about our kids and that they both lived in Southern CA; I will be in Santa Monica in April, so hope to run into you there. :) Oh, and there is a friendly family dog who ended up joining us on the patio. Really cute winery way up on the hillside near Grass Valley. My partner surprised me with a stop here on our last mini-vacay to Nevada City. A reservation was made in advance. The roads are slightly windy and mostly uphill to get here, if you get car sick you may want to take some dramamine beforehand. There is also a tasting room in downtown Grass Valley. There is a small tasting room and office across from the production area in the cul-de-sac entry. Linda was there to greet us upon arrival and gave us a background on each of the wines we tasted. We purchased a glass to enjoy in their beautiful picnic area and brought a lovely meal with us. We also had our two dogs with us, they thoroughly enjoyed themselves on the winery property (on-leash only, of course). The views from the picnic area are breathtaking! It was crystal clear on the day we visited, you can see all the way to Tahoe. Lots of tables to choose from on a large wooden platform surrounded by trees and vines, it was very peaceful and romantic. We enjoyed all of the wines we tried and bought a bottle of Cab Franc to take home. The sparkling Rosé was also really delicious and refreshing. If it was a warm summer day, these sweet wines served chilled on their lawn overlooking the Sierras could be enjoyable. Otherwise, the mediocre wine in an industrial setting lacks warmth and charm. read more

We visited the winery on July 4th prior to their annual special event;Red, White and Blues. This is located in the Grass Valley area and came recommended. I think the pending event was a bit distracting to really learn about the wines that we tasted. Tasting fee is $5. Other guests brought in food and the views are fabulous from the actual winery. The special event sounded fun so this could be a possible visit in the future. The wines were good though it would have been interesting to learn about them more. read more

Wines were all without body. No flavor. Couldn't tell the difference between a Cab Sauv, Zin or Cab Franc. One of favorite varietals is Cab Franc. When I mentioned it had no body I was told "It's French Style". I have had Cab Franc in several French wineries and they didn't taste anything like this. Sorry read more

We brought a group of about 20 people up to the Lucchesi vineyard for a tour and tasting as part of our "wedding weekend". They took the best care of everyone, and the view is absolutely stunning. The wine itself was wonderful, and almost everyone left with several bottles! It's a little tricky to get to because it is tucked away down some gravel roads, but if you follow the signs they have posted to guide the way, you'll be just fine! They have a beautiful spot on the top of a hill that truly gives you a "view forever". With tables set up along the hilltop, you can sit and take in the view while enjoying your glass of wine! We headed over here on a whim after the state park. We were greeted by two beautiful pups, super friendly, and the owner. We paid $10 a tasting of 5 wines and bought two glasses. The reserve was especially good. They have a great patio area that overlooks the vineyard and Lake Tahoe mountains in the distance. Bring your own cheese and crackers, walk through the vineyard for some great photos, and enjoy the view. If gate is closed call the winery - owner gave us the code to get in. read more

The wines here are not fantastic, but they aren't bad either. They just aren't really anything to rave about. The only wine that I really enjoyed was the Sauvignon Blanc. The tasting room employees are really nice, and gave us suggestions on other wineries to visit. Tasting is complimentary. After seeing The Hobbit across the street at the Del Oro, we dropped by Lucchesi for a glass of wine and a snack. The lady who poured for us let us taste a few before we decided - we both had the Cabernet Franc (YUM) and she gently offered to grab us a charcuterie plate if we were hungry. Since we had not had dinner, we were ecstatic that they had some noshes to snack on. Everything paired well, and we were content with our wine, snacks, and the live jazz music performance. Small place. Cute. Fantastic stop by. They are always nice. One time I went with a group of people and one of the gals in our group was the impossible, they were as nice as pie and generous. Great Red Zin. Really its my favorite wine, never get tired of it. There is standing room only, which works well because they do one thing well, serve wine as tastings. It is not a place trying to serve food, sell lots of junk (they do have some goodies) or make money in a thousand ways. They want you to drink the wine and buy it if you like it, and promote their business. They do what they do well. read more

Love this place, huge fan of quaint grass valley! We belong to their wine club, they have fantastic reds and their staff is a pleasure to see quarterly. All of there wine is amazing but we esp like there Zinfandel. It's very fruit forward and pairs well with ANYTHING!! Probably the best part of wine tasting (other than drinking for free) is getting to know the local's and the winery owners. After stumbling across this place, (no, not literally) I was impressed by the red / white selection, and the customer service was fantastic! I had the opportunity to "re-visit" many of the wines I enjoyed, and I was surprised they had "White Port" - WHAT?!? ~ PORT COMES IN DIFFERENT VARIETIES? BE STILL MY HEART!! It was fantastic. They had an excellent Merlot as well. My friend and I actually got a free bottle of the White Port. How cool is that? I guess it helps to be in the business. I can't say enough great things about the wine selection. Bring a friend, and check it out! read more

An easy stop in while in the historic downtown area of Grass Valley, with a cool urban tasting room that boasts local artists. The proprietor was serving us and was very nice and talkative, we enjoyed our visit with her, learning about her wines and family - however none of the wines were very good, not bad, just not very good. Could just be our palate but this spot doesn't boast the big bold California reds we were hoping for. Worth stopping in and checking out though! read more

I have been a fan of Lucchesi Wines for at least 5 years. Their events are fun, the owners are classy, their staff is energetic and informative. Ah - but the wines! There is a huge variety of wine available for tasting. From whites and blends, to reds and ports. Each one is unique. Each red is deliciously dry and fruity. A sophisticated palette will quickly appreciate their wines for the price. If you are not a wine connoisseur, stay in the Tasting Room and the staff there will be happy to walk you through the steps of proper tasting. I believe one reviewer incorrectly identified another winery when she wrote about Lucchesi. Lucchesi does not have a "Sun-something" Syrah. Perhaps she was thinking of Semillon de Soleil at Indian Springs. (Soleil means Sun) Nevada County has a lot of great wine....who needs Napa!!!! read more

This was an incredibly friendly tasting room that had a real Family feel. There were no tasting fees and the tastings were plentiful with a vast variety so theres something for everyone. I would definitely recommend visiting here as there really is something for everyone. The tasting room employee is really friendly and knowledgeable. All their wine is great! read more

It's difficult reviewing wineries since everyone tastes wine differently, so I can only relate my personal experience. I was not a fan of Lucchesi's wine, which it pains me to say since this is one of our most local wineries. All of their wines seemed a bit bland, which always irritates me more when they charge for tasting. I remember their Barbera from last fall being excellent, but when I went in last they only offered the "general, grow everywhere" wines, such as Merlot, Carbernet and Syrah. In my opinion the more exotic grapes do better in Nevada County and have a more unique taste. read more

The wines are very good, they also sell an excellent port. Both the white and usual. The staff is Fantastic. They also are willing to give good advice on pairings, both cheese and food. Why not five stars? Not really their fault but they are a small winery and, except for the port, tend to be competing in the same category with most of the other winery's in the area, and wine is an individual taste.
