On Route 33, in the tiny hamlet of Montpelier, you'll find this cute post office that serves the…read morefine folks in the community. The country road that leads you to this part of Mountain Rd. (Rt. 33) Is scenic, dotted with farmland and gorgeous rolling hills. The post office is on the main "downtown" road that runs through the small business district. The post office is open M-F from 8-11, 12-4:30, (closes for lunch) and Sat. from 8-11. Lobby hours are 24/7. This branch doesn't offer passport service, you can, however, purchase money orders here. There's plenty of parking and a drive up mailbox. Last mail pick up is 4:30 weekdays, 11 am on Saturday. Just a few other businesses are nearby, including the Food Lion, Montpelier's only grocery store. Next to the post office is this cool antique pick up truck that I couldn't resist! But you won't find President James Madison's Montpelier home here in this sleepy village, it's north, about an hour away. (There's another post office nearby that historic landmark with a similar name: Montpelier Station Post Office, different zip code.)

It's small and tucked away just over the Henrico line in Hanover/Goochland. We went first thing in the morning. It was so nice and quiet. It had a TON of toys my toddler didn't want to stop playing with. And was open enough I could look for kids books and keep my eye on him. It's park of the Pamunkey regional library, you do not have to be a resident of Goochland or Hanover to get a card but you do need a card from your county's library. I had to show my Henrico library card when I signed up.

Well laid out and organized and beautifully decorated with a wildlife mural. Love the story time corner with the seating steps built in (not that story times etc are happening in person during covid times). Haven't fully explored pamunkey regional library's catalog yet, but I'm glad our local branch is in such good shape and after getting out of our going-to-the-library-in-person routine when pandemic began, its been really nice for us to get back in and let our young son choose out books on his own again.

The location is quiet and right in the Glen Allen/Short Pump area! I really enjoy the second floor as there is more seating up there and comfier chairs to sit and spread out in. The study rooms I LOVE only thing is you need to reserve them if you want the full hour. It's a simple process. Plenty of parking and even a park nearby. The employees are helpful also.

There was free Wi-Fi available which worked quite well, and best of all the staff could not have been friendlier. For those more interested in using the facility as, well, a library, no problem there either. They had lots of those... Whatcha-ma-call'ems. You know - those stacks of bound papers with writing all in them. Books? Yes, that's it! Books. I also noticed a large section that appeared to be geared specifically toward those folks out there with little ones. Clean, nice, accessible, friendly, well run. Good spot!

I come here for tutoring and the parking lot is always clean, and even though the elevators occasionally go out, they're usually back up quickly.

James Madison lived at Montpelier his entire life. This is a really interesting historic home that…read morelater belonged to the DuPont family, who eventually donated funds to turn it back into a historic site as Madison's home. That renovation/restoration took a long time, and it's now a lovely place to visit and learn about our 4th President and his wife Dolley Madison. In addition to the house, which acknowledges its part in running a plantation through the work of enslaved people, it has exhibits about slavery at Montpelier and archeological finds. The property also has lovely grounds with a beautiful garden that's filled with many colorful flowers in the spring. The visitor center offers a movie, and the house docents offer hour-long tours on the half hour. They also have picnic tables under shady trees to enjoy lunch. The views from Montpelier are breathtaking. They charge a fee to visit the house and grounds. If you only want to visit the grounds, the fee is lower.

This is a great place to visit if you are interested in America's founding, American style of…read moredemocracy, or to celebrate the upcoming Sestercentennial of the United States. (Having experienced the bicentennial as a kid on a summer-long vacation, I am looking forward to it.) The guided tour of the house is well done. The out-buildings and grounds are self-guided. There are many and spread out, and the whole property is on a gentle slope. Could be an issue if it is a hot and humid day. Be sure to visit the garden! Think twice about buying the Looking Through the Landscape book for $10.00. I thought it would be something I could put on my bookshelf but no. Hardly a pamphlet, it contains QR code links to YouTube videos they created. It was snuck in during the checkout process and frankly left me feeling duped. I chalked it up as a donation.
