You may have some long Lines at lunchtime, but I was in and out like first class delivery! It was rather spacious, clean, well-stocked. I love the postal system! It's history, the colorful post offices all over the country, and meeting the postmasters all intrigue me! Ruther Glen is an unincorporated community that's serves about 16,000 folks! This post office has odd hours: M-F 9-4:30 closes from 1:30-3 for lunch - haven't seen a post office that closes that long for lunch but good for them! Sat. 10-12.

Their hours are still clunky in my opinion (original complaint) but when they're open and Tiffany is there it's always a five-star visit. I've been feeling this way for a while now whenever I get to vibe w her, but especially today when she asked after my son. The last time we were in for stamps was weeks ago, my son was solving his Rubik's cube while in a splint following his hand surgery. However- if you are in the vicinity of Woodford, Virginia- prepare to step back into the past! The person who greets,(YES, GREETS) you at the counter is pleasant and helpful. Your request is taken seriously and handled in a timely and friendly fashion. The first time I availed myself of the services here, I truly thought I was in a time warp. I have since , returned and each trip has been a wonderful reminder that there are indeed folks who try to do their jobs in a happy and effective manner!

So I had to drive to the "boonies" to find this tiny post office. I drove past cows, horses, farm…read moreland, lush forests, old barns and through curvy country roads crossing over the Mattaponi River in Caroline County, but it was worth the trek! Yes, it's the typical A framed brick government building but it's the details for me! The huge sign out front can't be missed, with the hours posted proudly with American eagles painted red, white and blue at each corner! Inside there are several lovely house plants and chimes in the post box area, and the main lobby giving it a homey feel. It's decorated with world maps and travel posters. It's adorable! As an added plus there's passport service here which is unusual for such a small post office! So kudos to you!! It was pretty tidy, well stocked, and had a nice clerk working the counter. A post office has been in operation in Woodford since 1874, although this one was dedicated in 1969. You may to check out the Google reviews for this one... sooo many 1 star reviews. Obviously many folks around here aren't happy campers, but I didn't have an issue and they delivered! The Amtrak train whizzed by when I came here, and next to the post office was a building that looked like an old train depot. It's really an almost 4 star in my book!

The post off is at the intersection of Route 1 & Mudd Tavern Road in a small brick rectangular building with a white portico above the door. It's plain, but these tiny post offices always catch my eye. I'd give it a 3 star review if it was spruced up, but inside is pretty aged; definitely needs the floors and baseboards redone and the old wood paneling has got to go! With a little TLC this post office could be a gem! Hours M-F 8:30-4:30, closes for lunch from 1-2; Sat. 9:00-11:30.
