Located in the heart of Frome, this refurbished hotel is a mixture of modern and medieval history…read more With it's exposed wooden beams and country feel, the perfect romantic getaway or relaxation oasis. Although, it's not the place for giants as there are low ceilings or if you're not good stairs as it's a bit like the Burrow from Harry Potter. The upstairs rooms on the top floor are deluxe double beds, with an ensuite, a large old fashioned bathtub, tv and complimentary tea and coffee. If you prefer a shower, the rooms located in the courtyard near the pub are the one for you. Make sure to take advantage of the barn style pub and restaurant, which serve up good quality seasonal food at reasonably prices if you're not after the usual pub grub. I enjoyed a classic beef burger which hit the spot and the tasting plate, accompanied by local beer and cider. For breakfast, there is proper cafe quality coffee and tea is by UK brand teapigs. There is a range of hot and continental options. I had the eggs royale, which exceeded my expectation of hotel breakfasts. After researching and sussing out a few places to stay, this one seemed the best, a real small town gem. I'll definitely be back!

The dining area is on two levels above the street level. The service is very friendly and prompt. Food is imaginative, delicious, but somewhat lacking in the oomph factor. The sautéed livers with pancetta on brioche was the winner among the appetisers. The server informed us that they were out of salmon and goats cheese, so two of the five appetisers were unavailable. The lamb with the neck croquette was well cooked, flavoured, but somehow didn't hit the spot. The rump was a tad dry. Probably just the wrong day. Well done on the dessert. Both the date pudding (they ran out of figs which were an addition to this one) and the ginger cheesecake, were very done. Great place to stop by if you're in the Mendip area.

We asked the bar staff for recommendations, and they were enthusiastic about Costello. After our meal, so are we! Costello sits on a narrow (aren't all the streets narrow here?!?) side street. The restaurant has a look and feel that seems much more modern than the surrounding buisinesses. When you go in, it is bright, airy and chic. The staff is friendly and professional. And most are clearly Italian...my wife was especially taken by the handsome young waiters speaking British English with an Italian accent. They told us that they had been in business for 4 years. I can't believe another Yelper hasn't been here yet! Our food was excellent. The wine list was compact but complete. Setting and service wonderful.

I had a fish based rissotto with contained 5 large mussels...Incredibly it was served to me with 2 open and 3 still closed...NEVER EVER serve mussels that are not open..Every chef on the planet should know this. The manager apologised and went and got me some more which had been cooked in, I think, a tomato based sauce...I didn't like them at all and they did not match my original mussels..He offered me a desert on the house which I accepted. This experienced blemished what should have been a lovely evening. So disappointed. Will I return...Not sure as there are loads of restaurants out there to choose from. I think this mistake must lay with the chefs who should have checked the mussels before sending them out .Dining out is not cheap nowadays so customer expectations are high !

The option for a hot stone to prepare one's own steak was super cool, a nice fun touch (though I guess it absolves the chef of any blame of over/under-cooking, haha!). My filet was beautifully cut, and came with several delicious sides and sauces. As an added bonus the entire team here was very helpful and aware about gluten allergies! Loved our visit here and hope to recommend it to more people visiting Frome!

We got the following: -Steak and ale pie (very packed with flavor and delicious) -Lamb rump toast (very large portion and also very delicious) The prices were pretty affordable and although we came did dinner, we noticed they have lots of lunch deals. I would recommend if you are visiting. The service is nice and they let you dine and take your time.
