There are few places in a city that could match the level of ambiance, expertise, and service that moonbeans delivers. The baristas are friendly and the coffee is great. They cater to both the majority of people who prefer their coffee with cream and sugar, and the minority who drink it straight. Both will be pleased. I will recommend you the red eye if you want a pure coffee experience, a regular latte if you want a smooth, yet robust flavor to compliment a study session, or the famous coco moo, in cold or hot, if you want a delicious sugary explosion of coconut, coffee, and chocolate flavors. Stopped in for a cup of coffee and breakfast! Great atmosphere and service! Tried the oatmeal and it was excellent! Plenty of room to spread out your work if you need to. Several tables are large enough to hold an impromptu meeting and free wifi for you road warriors. The only reason I gave this place 4 stars is that it looks like they are going through a period of renovation or repairs to the place with the ceiling tiles out and raw sheetrock here and there. Who knows where the owner was but this is a small business and that's where they need to be instead of leaving teenage wanna be hipsters to manage. It's evident that the owner is disconnected from their business by their hiring choices. I live in San Antonio and travel extensively, and have been drinking coffee longer than these newbs have been alive. So, when I walked into a "speciality coffee shop" and asked for a cortado and the look was a blank face - it quickly went downhill. The cashier asked the barista for assistance with this order and his response was "we don't have glasses for that" and he then walked off to enjoy his own beverage outside for a presumable 4pm break with his buddies. So I asked for a latte with 1/2 the milk, which somehow was more confusing than ordering a cortado. Bottom line, the owner or an adult needs to show up, second, the smug barista who probably has never stepped foot north of the valley might want to learn what customer service is about and travel a little for some perspective on whom they might want to be looking down upon. Granted, he is probably clearing over $9/hr and on his way to purchasing a Bugatti Veyron - but being friendly and approachable in the retail world is not that much to ask. Since there's nothing special about this place, just go to one of the many Starbucks in town and tip those friendly folks $5 and everyone will leave happy - especially you. read more

I had a latte and it tasted like poop no lie first time I review but not worth the hype

My visit was horrible. I walked in for a hot chocolate and it took me half an hour to get it and when I finally got it, it was super cold. It had been sitting there for a while because they confused my name with Karyla when I said Karla and they didn't bother in giving me a new one. The place was full of college students who set up with their books and laptops to study all night, leaving no room for anyone else to sit. It was late and I didn't need to stay up all night so I ordered a decaf coffee. They don't brew decaf, but make it from decaf espresso shots. It tasted like instant coffee to me and cost 2.50 for a small cup. read more

Horrible horrible horrible! Used to be my favorite place but never again! Waited 53 minutes for an oreo orbit and a latte. Barista had 4 orders placed after mine out before me. Decides to clean everything before getting my order done, then gives me attitude when I inform him I was waiting PATIENTLY first. Even the cashier (who was very nice btw) had to tell him I had been there waiting for my order. Place has gone downhill. Then they both SUCKED! Orbit completely melted before I even walked out and the latte was horrible! I would be less irritated if the end result was worth the wait but this was garbage! Sad to say, Mcdonalds never looked better than what i just went through. Hope they find better help and get this establishment to what it used to be! read more

Moonbeans has been this caffeine junkie's dealer from the moment I arrived in McAllen. Staffed by a quirky and friendly corps of baristas who can whip you up espresso-infused libations that you never knew existed, they get high marks for creativity and quality. If you happen to catch them on a night where there's a large college crowd in study mode, you might have to wait a bit for your drink, but it won't be any longer than the average wait at Starbucks® (as I shudder and insert the trademark sign to avoid getting sued). Their prices are very reasonable compared to their competition (the coffee purveyor who must not be named...see above), and the general ambience of the place is pretty great too, with lots of tables, armchairs and booths. If you're a latte drinker like I used to be, might I recommend a "Dirty Chai" with almond milk. I initially called the young lady who proposed that I try the aforementioned drink a communist for even suggesting that to me over my usual, but after happily downing gallons of the stuff over the last few years, I'm ready to eat my Marxberry humble pie. All joking aside, if you're in the market for anything from a cup of black coffee to a double raspberry mocha Oreo cookie espresso frappe (or some such thing), hit this place up. The remodel is quite the change, but I do still enjoy the atmosphere and really love the coffee. Their espresso and drip coffees are handcrafted and roasted locally... always a plus! Really enjoying their "pour over" process. That's time and care given to customers for that fresh, specially made cup. It's so excellent. Each morning I go in, the young manager is always eager to help out... she has a warm, welcoming personality and always has great suggestions when I don't feel like sticking to the norm. The rest of the staff is quite friendly too; 9 out of 10 times they have a smile on their face and always look hard at work. What I enjoy the most about this place is that you can tell everyone genuinely enjoys working with each other. Happiness within the employees... That's the start of great customer service! The only downside to this place is if you're trying to get work done on a laptop/tablet/some sort of device during a busy night of theirs, there are not many outlets. Regular customers know which seats to take, so my recommendation is you get there as early as you can and find yourself a good seat! I can overlook the outlet situation because of how much I enjoy this place. I make my way to Moonbeans before/after work about once or twice a week, but each time is such an enjoyable experience that I wish I was there more frequently! Truly is a Valley staple! It's our day off, let's grab our laptops and head to a coffee joint. We grabbed coffee at a local corporate coffeehouse but the seating was extremely cramped. A thought came to mind, let's go to Moonbeans. The seating and ambiance is nice, spacious and pleasant. Arriving I brought down my coffee that I purchased at a local commercial coffeehouse that I haven't even started drinking. I showed up at the counter at Moonbeans to buy a bottle water to be a good patron while my husband grabbed a seat. I was asked by the cashier if my cup had any coffee in it. I said it does. She warned me her managers were present. I said, am I going to get kicked out? She said my cup had coffee in it...I took it as a joke and said oh its ok, its America. I bought my water bottle, finally set in with my hubby in a cumfy seated corner. As we were looking for an outlet the manager approached us that they do not allow outside coffee and either we dispense of it or we can show ourselves out. What? I thought in my head. Mind you the coffee was between our laptops, as an extra measure of consideration to keep it guised by other patrons. We left and I approached the manager and replied, in Austin, San Antonio and Houston, that would not have happened. A review will be made. And here it is. Why on earth dismiss business on account of a small 3 inch logo on a cup? I didn't know my cup would be screened for outside coffee print/logos. What if I brought a mug, a juice bottle, a water bottle from another restaurant with a logo... would that be grounds to throw away my purchase or get out? My hubby and I just returned from a trip to Austin where I did encounter a slight degree of racism. Even that did not amount to the degree of outrage I was made to feel in my own hometown because of a corporate logo on a coffee cup. I was denied the privilege of giving my business and continued business at that visit because I brought a coffee cup from a corporate coffee house. What a major, major inconvenience and how incredibly, unbelievably embarrassing. So we helped ourselves out as we didn't want to throw a good cup of coffee away and that in turn hindered business at Moonbeans because we were going to purchase a pastry, more coffee and my cappuccino once I finished my cup. That also hindered any ongoing business as well by us. I have never been asked to leave before from a business nor felt this unappreciated. When we do get a hankering for another cup of joe at a local coffee house we will kindly go elsewhere. Why, why turn down business and patrons in an economy like today? Wow. read more
