But upon arriving, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Neelam's actually serve an array of food, all coming in huge portions. After having had a couple of beers, we were more than ready for a feast, so whilst my friend ordered a kebab I decided to order a burger. Both came with a side of chips and we proceeded to sit down and devour our meals in a matter of seconds. Fairly priced and combined with a really friendly and welcoming atmosphere, the staff were as helpful as ever, so much so that I've been back, tried a kebab and can safely say, it was delicious!

The dahl was sooo good!! Nice and spicy! Portions were huge. Naan was fresh! I stuck with the dahl usually and we got chicken kabobs too once I think. They have a TV too and they play the bollywood music channel! haha, I will return when I head across the pond next :)

Then there are places that you go to of a night out for some scran because you just bloody love the place. Harun's is one such place. Despite recently painting the shop a rancid orange colour, Harun's remains the best takeaway in Southport for you to greedily stuff your mouth with greasy goodness in the early hours of the morning. The food there is well made and delicious albeit not particularly cheap (damn you Southport) and the staff there are friendly and will happily talk with you for hours about good Turkish footballers (believe me; it happens every week when we go). They also have a punching machine in there (perhaps to curb the violent enthusiasm of the Southport residents) which causes much hilarity at three in the morning when my mates decide to show each other who can hit something the hardest. Harun's je t'aime.

We arrived later than most restaurant's normal business hour, but I've had my eyes on this kebab place even before we arrived in town.... and we're glad that we did. The service was fast and friendly, the owner and crews chatted and introduced themselves (from Pakistan), and the food is just plain glorious. Anything from the doner to the pitas and even the burger (which reminded of the Afghan burger back home in North Brunswick, NJ... LOL) are very well cooked. The sliced meat felt deliciously tender and the edgy spice completed the dance of the flavors. We got the value tikka box and had so much leftover. Definitely a worthy stopover in this otherwise sleepy and quaint English town.

It is obvious as soon as you walk in that this isn't what a kebab shop looks like. It's clean and airy with a large counter displaying a variety of salad items. The staff were a cut above as well. Unfortunately as well as upping the standards they have also upped the price with the result that I paid more for a standard kebab here, out of town than I would in the city. They serve an impressive array of kebabs here and I will certainly be treating myself again in the near future. I put the disorganized nature of the service down to the newness of the venture.

Word to the wise - if you want tahini, order it as an extra, you can't order it with a kebab, online at least. Edit As thanks for a review I left yesterday bemoaning separate delivery (so no soggy bread) and no tahini, they gave me a free kebab ready wrapped with a load of tahini on it. This place is truly exceptional, and has a customer for life in this house.

I offer you the following: * Most people called in their orders, will help with prep time but wasn't bad overall. Not much room to wait, you feel the outside air through the door. * You get a LOT of food, at least at far as the kebabs go. (I'm from the land of pizza so I cannot speak to pizzas outside that land.) * The kebabs are not skewered. That was my thought with the name kebab. You will get chunks or shaves of meat. All meat is delicious though. * They showered my meal liberally with hot sauce. Appeared to be made in house. Very nice. * A lot of salad but it's not assembled. No dressing. Many onions. Fortunately the pink (sorry, not certain what that was) is pickled and that helped flavour the rest. Not what I expected for my last meal in Britain, since it's something we also have back home, but for those who live or routinely visit here, a great break to a different cuisine. Worthy of your patronage.
