We do not recommend Akil as a wedding or engagement shoot photographer, and I am writing this…read morereview to warn other brides. · Thursday February 24 - I wrote Akil an email checking in about booking an engagement shoot with him since we had paid our deposit and I figured his weekends in May were getting full. · Saturday February 26 - Akil wrote back asking about May 7th · Saturday February 26 - I said May 7th would be great and asked about having a call a head of time to confirm the details. · Thursday March 3 - Akil asked about having a call the next day. · Tuesday March 8th - Followed up about a call on a different day asking about his availability this week or next. · Thursday April 29th - Had not heard from Akil and asked about a call since our engagement shoot was supposedly agreed for May 7th and we had no real plan in place. · Monday May 2nd - Still had not heard from Akil and the shoot was going to be this week. I emailed Akil and called him trying to follow up. My fiancé sent him a text and he texted him back right away that we were scheduled for May 7th at 8am but would need, to get a permit to shoot a Rice. Both the 8am and permit were surprises for us and 8am would not work for getting ready in the morning. Bottom line: We should never have had to initiate a discussion regarding our engagement shoot or follow up with Akil to get a plan in place. His lack of communication and organization was unprofessional. When I pressed him about his lack of communication to plan our engagement shoot, he told me that he doesn't do that kind of hand holding with his brides. We have since fired him as our photographer, knowing that if this is how he treats engagement shoots, we can't rely on him to be communicative and organized for our wedding. As a previous professional photographer, I know what good service looks like: reliable, communicative, and organized to capture the clients' vision and keep them informed of expectations. While his photos are beautiful, there are photographers in the Houston area that provide a much better experience. If you are considering Akil, save yourself some stress and look elsewhere.

He was the utmost professional at all times yet also easy to work with! During the eight months leading up to our wedding we both had major cases/docket projects that would often times take us out of state/country, so we really appreciated his flexibility on scheduling our engagement photos and also understanding whenever we couldn't respond on a timely basis. Additionally, payment and contract signing was a snap as he does all of his electronically ( you would be surprised how many vendors only do hard copy or mailed/scanned contracts and payment through only check). He was so understanding especially with the logistics of a dual culture wedding and our hectic schedules, and that my family is on the east coast, so there would be "lag times" in final decisions as we waited for family approval on every wedding detail. We opted for a "city shoot" for our engagement photos which also included our dogs, Theo was great at handling them and also getting the shots we wanted. Ashley also was fantastic in helping with the engagement shoot in downtown Houston and really sweet! For our wedding day, Theo was amazing and got all the shots we had wanted. It was a long day with dual ceremonies starting at 2:30 PM with a sparkler exit at 11 PM. Theo showed up early at 11 AM to set up and get some of the pre-wedding shots, there were times I almost forgot Theo and his assistant Johnny were even there (that's how great they were!). Due to a comedy of errors (blame it on mercury retrograde), the day was more chaotic than any other wedding even I've been in behind the scenes, but Theo and Johnny where amazing, and were calm even when I was not calm! He went above and beyond throughout the entire day, including helping find one of the wedding bands that were dropped prior to the ceremony! Our guests absolutely loved the photo-booth as well, he actually designed the photobooth picture template based on our wedding programs, and we could not be happier with the final product. He was able to get not only some great posed pictures but some amazing candid shots of us that are simply beautiful and we will treasure for years to come! Some of my favorite photos are not only from the bride/groom shoots but also the ones from the reception, you can "see" the movement in every shot. It is clear that Theo has a passion for what he does and we could not be more grateful for the beautiful photos of our wedding day!
