All Saints Cemetery is a historic cemetery in Jensen Beach. It is the only cemetery in town and not…read morefor profit. The cemetery is located on a hill overlooking the Indian River Lagoon. At the top of the hill is the All Saints Episcopal Church. Although the church and cemetery are independent of each other many of the funeral services are held at the church. All Saints Cemetery offers grave burial, a mausoleum, and a Serenity Garden for dispersal of cremated remains. The oldest section of the cemetery runs from Dixie Highway, S.R. 707 west up the hill to the church property. The history of the cemetery goes back to 1893 when a community of Episcopal worshipers began to hold service in this area. The property for the cemetery was donated by Charles H. and Mary Racey. All Saints' Episcopal Church and All Saints' Cemetery were established in 1898. The first burial took place on November 17, 1904. In 1933 an additional five acres land was donated by Cliff C. Garrison with land acquired from the Jensen Fruit Company to expand the cemetery. Free burials were offered as part of the deed. A plaque detailing the history of the cemetery was placed on a wall by the Daughter's of the American Revolution. It was unveiled on Saturday, November 5th, 2016. I enjoyed visiting the oldest section of the cemetery where the pioneers of Jensen Beach and the surrounding areas were laid to rest. One thing that always stands out in these old cemeteries is the number of children who died as infants. Some of the graves are so old that the inscriptions are no longer legible. This is wort a visit for anyone interested in the families and history of Martin County.

Port Mayaca Memorial Gardens is located in unincorporated Martin County on State Road 76. This…read moresparsely populated area is named for the Mayaca tribe. The cemetery was formed when this site was chosen to bury the victims of the 1928 Hurricane that claimed the lives of many Glades residents. An estimated 3,000 people died as a result of the category 5 hurricane, three quarters of which were African-American migrant farm workers. The hurricane caused the earthen dikes surrounding Lake Okeechobee to collapse resulting in flooding that caused many people to drown. Over 1,600 people were buried at Port Mayaca in a mass grave. The marker for the hurricane victims is in the east section under the flagpole. In 2013 Ground Penetrating Radar was used to determine the actual boundary of the mass grave. Three miles west of the cemetery is Lake Okeechobee, the largest fresh water lake in Florida. It is now surrounded by the Herbert Hoover Dike to prevent flooding from ever happening again. The cities of Pahokee, Belle Glade and South Bay formed a Trust that operated the cemetery until 1992. Then the City of Pahokee took sole control of the operation of Memorial Gardens. In 1993 Vencent Henderson built a mausoleum in honor of his wife Louise. After he died he left the City of Pahokee an endowment of $875,000 to maintain the cemetery permanently. The city also has a perpetual care fund and they have acquired more land so burials can still take place here. On September 16, 1928 a lot of people not only lost their lives, but their names as well. Whole families were wiped out and there wasn't time to identify people before they had to be buried. This beautiful and peaceful cemetery stands as a memorial to all of the people who were killed on that day.

It is one of the few remaining nonprofit cemeteries left in the state. It is believed that the first person buried in the cemetery was 3 day old James Lafayette Smith. At the time of their child's death his parents were staying with J. Frank Bell who allowed the baby to be buried on his property. He along with Edward J. Traynor deeded the first 1 1/4 acres for the cemetery. 20 more acres were added in 1941 and the last eight acres were purchased in the 1980's. The White City Cemetery was the only cemetery in the county that would allow the burial of Germans during WWII. In 2006 the cemetery suffered a setback when two employees were arrested for stealing over $175,000 from cemetery funds giving new meaning to the term grave robbing. The loss of the money put the future of the cemetery in jeopardy but the White City Cemetery Association was determined to make sure the cemetery would stay open for at least the next 100 years. The association is made up of a board elected by the owners of the cemetery plots. On my visit the cemetery seems to have recovered well from a time when financial matters were so dire that the federal and state governments had tax liens on the property. Today the graves rest under towering live oaks dripping in Spanish moss. The grounds look well maintained and a peaceful aura permeates the park like setting. I noticed a lot of graves of veterans and I always thank them for the service when I pass. Towards the side I found a section of older graves and some predated the founding date of the cemetery. In the back of the cemetery are mausoleums. From a historic perspective this is tranquil place to come and pay your respects to the pioneers of Fort Pierce.

His request as a fishing enthuest was to have his son, a charter captain take family to the ocean for burial at sea. My son and I requested and got a quick appointment to meet with All County. From walking in the door they were compassionate, responsive and very accommodating with pricing. Went over all the necessary paper work, death certificates, and the the necessary state requirment license provided and cremation process with utmost dignity. There was no push for a funrel service they accepted our wishes for creamation. Price was resonable. We had a beautiful basket with rose petals for the ashes, and it was very comforting. I do recommend All County Funeral Home.

We are a large and spread-out active-duty military family and were scrambling. All County did not return voicemails or emails asking for clarity. WHY? -All Country scheduled LANDSCAPERS, visible and audible from inside the chapel service, cutting trees at the time my family was forced to accept. WHY? Seriously, wtf. -Prayer cards had wrong birth and death dates. (VERY wrong dates, not small ones that could be missed.) When this was pointed out at the service, family members (with the widow of the deceased present) were told "it doesn't matter." WHY? Just remove them and say "We will fix this asap if we can." That such a response was within the boundaries of "acceptable response to guests at a service" is a sign of professional rot. Again, wtf. They are very efficient and the Chapel is a nice setting, but a cavalier attitude toward HUGE mistakes is a sign of professional rot. They will ignore, deflect, and deny until the last minute leaving families floundering. I can only offer a mixed review.
