They are personable, attentive, and experts in their field and particularly in Somerville, Cambridge. We've been looking for an apartment in the Somerville area for about 1.5 months and were getting no…read moreresponses from properties and brokers. We were becoming tired of the whole run around process and never hearing back, especially because we had what most brokers tried to push as a lower price point saying nothing was available in the area for that much. (We currently lived in a place less than what we wanted). While taking a stroll in another neighborhood in Somerville, we randomly pulled up the Zillow app and found out the location we were standing right in front of had a new unit available in the same time frame and price point we were looking for. It actually seemed too good to be true. We called right away and Ranjita got back to us immediately. We rattled off the list of questions we had about the place and she was able to give us answers right away and she promised to get back to us about the answers she didn't (which she did that night). I'm the paranoid one of the two and had /many/ more questions. It's crazy to think we were going to sign a lease at a new apartment we had never been to (thus is the times of covid and my fear of scams was elevated). Ranjita returned with more pictures and a great video walk-through. I was still nervous. She happily provided me with proof of identification and broker's license. She gave us the option to pay by credit card which made me feel safer about my personal funds. She got us the lease working with property management. This always takes time as the broker acts as the go-between and she did her best to get us the papers we needed. When I had a few questions or asked if we could change items on the lease, she listened, was helpful, and reassured me I wasn't annoying her with so many questions (I probably was, but she was nice enough to act like I wasn't ha). She was able to get us in to view the apartment after the previous tenants move out, so at least we were able to see it before move-in day. Quick process overall. Very responsive to emails. Easier than we thought it would be.

Ranjita then ignored my email requesting the refund. We applied to the unit in part because it said "cats allowed" in all online listings (see photo attached for example). We were upfront throughout the process that we were about to get a cat. During the showing, a no-pet policy was never mentioned. We were encouraged to apply, and then after we paid the application fee, all of a sudden we were told that the owner of the unit would not consider any pets and the listings were then all updated to "cats not allowed," which seems very misleading. At its worst, it is a malicious "bait and switch" strategy... at its best it's very negligent and disorganized. Just be careful when applying. We were referred to Cambridge Premier Realty by a friend, but we will not be referring them to other friends of ours.

I felt very unwelcome and as if I was bothering him despite this being his job. Thankfully the tenants were there to answer my questions because Nate had no idea at all. Later on, I requested a second showing and his retort was also rude and unhelpful. I am exhausted of entitled brokers who do the minimum so they can get paid. Broker fees should be illegal because clearly, they do not contribute much to the apartment searching process. Because of his attitude, I will not be moving forward with this company. I would never recommend this company to anyone.

They wanted us to pay the deposit and sign the lease before being approved as tenants by the owner of the property. They claimed if we were not approved, they would refund the deposit, but that was not outlined in the lease terms so there was no guarantee the funds would be returned. I am not going to risk $8,000 for the chance to be considered and nobody else should either. This entire process felt very strange and we ended up walking away and finding something better with a different company.

An example of one passive-aggressive thing he said was "Why do I care more about finding this place than you do?" I don't usually write reviews but, my experience warrants one! Incompetent leasing team. Right from…read morethe beginning I could never get anyone on the phone, emails weren't returned and this was before I moved in. Once I moved in, I experienced a maintance staff person leave my lights on for 12 hours but, he locked the door behind himself?? But, lights were too much to shut off? I noticed a brown stain on the closet ceiling, I was told "that's an old water leak." It was painted over. Then it resurfaced, now the maintance team cut out drywall, which crumbled in their hands, doesn't that speak to an active water leak?? new dry wall up then painted over yet again! Then I notice black mold going across my ceiling. I was already on a medical leave, I didn't need my apartment to make me sick! Then the plumber comes in, water is indeed dripping from a pipe, so active water leak! I took a video of it. Then, I dealt with drywall going up again, more painting. I had reported this building to the city for overflowing trash rooms where I couldn't put my trash into the room as too much was on the floor. I have videos and pictures of all my experiences. I would come home late at night and find loud music and a party in progress in the lobby area along with propped open doors so their friends could enter. Amenity spaces only go until 10 pm. Propped open doors are a safety issue!! The garage gate in the back of the building in the upright open position meant people could access the building and they did!! On and On the issues went!! But, nobody seemed to care! Currently I am two months past when my security deposit should have been returned. MULTIPLE emails sent including to the ceo and founder of Greystar Properties. DO NOT MOVE TO A GREYSTAR PROPERTY IS MY BEST ADVICE!! ps Anyone talking about how lovely the building looks, well that's very nice but, that doesn't affect quality of life issues such as what I experienced.
