I swear Campendium was so useful and helpful to me while along my journey. Whenever I needed a last second or spontaneous place to camp out for the night....Campendium had all the answers and solved all my problems, lol. For all the adventurers out there, I highly recommend downloading this app. It's free to use as well! So yeah I found Angel Peak Scenic Area...and not only was it free to camp for the evening...but the best part of it all was that the area was surrounded by a spectacular background of colorful purple and gray badlands!!! Yeah, just...it was so surprising that this place even existed! Because...it's located in Northwestern New Mexico near a town I had never heard called Bloomfield. But yeah...here was Angel Peak...what a hidden gem! Alright...so to get to the camping area....this was the one slight hindrance about this place...I had to drive a 7 mile dirt road. Okay yeah....the road was bumpy at times. But for my simple midsize car...there were no issues. Well, one other possible problem was that at the end of the road...there weren't many campsites or camp spaces available. It's not like Angel Peak was crowded....there just weren't many spots open and available to camp at. I fortunately found maybe 1 of the last spots around, and this was about 5pm on a Thursday in the middle of the month of September. So, for those who are interested in camping here...I'd recommend to arrive early. Overall, the ambiance here was a Perfect 10! After I found a camping space, got myself settled and set up my tent, I then walked over to the viewpoint and was quite impressed. It's just funny how you never hear of some places, they're so under the radar, and yet here I randomly at the spur of the moment found Angel Peak and was enjoying a terrific sunset immersed among inspiring badlands. You talk about the ideal place to camp out....and then to sit back and appreciate a late summer sunset....it really helped me put things into perspective....and just how much I've traveled to get here at this moment. Lol, alright I'll stop with the deep and intense talk. I'm glad I got a chance to review Angel Peak Scenic Area. This place certainly deserved a spot on Yelp and I'm glad to be the first to do it.

I wont go into details, but it is worth the trip to come see this place at-least once in your lifetime and feel the energy that is here. We came in through the south rim off the 57. It is about a good 20 mile drive on a rough dirt road. I would not recommend driving here in any low profile vehicles or when it is raining because you will get stuck in the mud. Make sure your tires are good. Some patches are very rough and you will literally need to drive around 15mph. Once you reach near the visitor center there is paved road again. The loop is all paved and individual parking sites with restrooms are located in every site and will lead you on the trails. The hikes are moderate, but look out for snakes. The visiting section has a gift shop, really nice restrooms and they will provide all the info you may need. Entrance fee was only $25.

I did not expect it would be snow covered fields and roads…read more The road leading up to this place no matter where you're coming from Highway 40 or Highway 25, eventually turns into a dirt road. Because it was frozen with snow on top our drive was pretty slow - 35 mph. I cannot imagine if it was a rainy day, all that mud. Don't come here if you don't have high suspension or at least an all-wheel-drive vehicle. We came here and had less than an hour left. The Ranger said we can drive the loop and see as many buildings as we can but we weren't able to see the large Pueblo. Still, it was worth it. Pictures turned out amazing. I did the junior ranger program booklet as fast as I could and I have to say it's one of the harder ones I've encountered if you were to finish the whole entire thing. I would come back here again, except when there's no snow that way you get to see way more of the architecture.

The…read moreRainbow Hot Springs is a 10 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Pagosa Springs. Also located in the San Juan National Forest. The forest occupies land in Archuleta, Conejos, Dolores, Hinsdale, La Plata, Mineral, Montezuma, Rio Grande, San Miguel and San Juan Counties!! They have plenty of campgrounds (with friendly campground hosts) and nearby Horseback Riding opportunities. I came here with a good friend of mine, as we visited South Fork, CO. The weather was perfect in May of 2021 and I needed a Chilly Mini for my neck. We spotted some gorgeous waterfalls and really unique plants. San Juan appeared to have had a forest fire in the last 5 years, because we definitely witnessed some aftermath. Lots of old, dead and burned down tree trunks. The trail is fairly easy, a little rocky, but such a great cardio workout for your calves. We spotted some wonderful rivers that kept my friend and I very cool.

We had a mixup with our reservation and check out time, and this woman yelled at myself and family members separately over the phone, and lectured me on how my behavior was unacceptable. It clearly was not the end of the world as she was able to relocate the group that was supposed to take my spot to one out of many empty spots in the lot .Ma'am you manage a gravel parking lot, your position could not be more meaningless. I was absolutely appalled when I got off the phone with this woman. An insult to humanity. What an unbearable existence this woman must endure everyday to lecture and scream at adults over a miscommunication. She demanded to meet me in person to "decide if I could stay" after I made it clear that I was not interested. Ma'am, I understand that this rv park is your entire livelihood, if I've shattered your world with a simple miscommunication I deeply apologize and hope you can make a full recovery . It turns out, it is that deep.

We've been here twice--last year, also for Memorial Day weekend, and this year. Last year things…read morewere great. We missed the Duck Races, but enjoyed pool, mini-golf, and pickleball. We skipped the food, having brought our own "camping" fare to eat and the kids wouldn't let us miss roasting hot dogs. We got their propane fire pit--I believe it's $25 for the pit and a full tank of propane. Nothing horribly special about it, but we enjoyed sitting around it and cooking hotdogs and marshmallows. There's no wood fire allows for safety reasons, so this made a great 2nd place. The folks there were very nice. They check you in and lead you to your spot and help you get you larger campers in if you need the help. We didn't have to leave the vehicle. The campground was clean and they were on top of all issues right away. They seemed like a group of friends or family taking care of their own property. We had a great time. This year we returned and things seemed more streamlined. Check in was quicker, they checked on us to make sure we were satisfied, everyone was very friendly. The pool was open--while not an Olympic sized pool, there was plenty of room for about a dozen kids and adults to be playing games and splashing around while many more (including myself) sat around the side of the pool in provided lounge chairs. We were told they were bought by a new group, and this group made some positive changes. First they started carrying a new pizza (Hunt Brothers, I think?) and for 12 bucks you get a pizza with as many toppings as you want with no extra charge--only charge is extra cheese. They were made quickly and delivered to our camp site. They also have a breakfast area with standard breakfast fare, as well as a pie/icecream shop in the main office. They have tent camping, Pull-through, Cabins, and big rig RV parking. Anything you need is available on site. They have laundry and showers, water, propane, and of course all the hookups you need. The new business that owns them seems to want to keep what worked and improve what needed improvement. They actually asked us how things were, what we thought about the changes (they knew we were there the previous year) and asked for suggestions on improvements. This wasn't the kind of corporate buyout where they try to streamline and skimp on everything, maximizing profits while running the business into the ground. Either the new owners genuinely care, or they put people in charge that genuinely care, and give them the authority to fix things. The only employee whose name we remember was Deborah, and she was very friendly and really peppy. She also happened to be the female employee mentioned below. The best part was during the duck races (an event we're told they hold on holidays where you can "buy" a numbered rubber ducky to race down the creek with everyone else's--the money goes to local charities--they said this time was the local Humane Society) Deborah was dancing around, quacking and flapping her "wings" getting everyone else involved while cheering on their own ducks. The race may have only lasted a couple of minutes, but it was a blast. You did not have to buy in to watch--and the ducks go fast! We sent our daughter to buy a few and were told they were already sold out! Pickleball was hard to get ahold of this year--the campgrounds weren't full, but there were some larger families that were quicker than us. We were able to get pool easily. They also put on movies outdoors (though covered). While we were there, they were all kid-friendly movies. I only remember one night was Finding Nemo. We plan on checking out one of their large cabins next year with more family.

Traveling full-time in a 42-foot coach we have stayed in over 400 RV Parks, we stayed here seven…read morenights. (1) Clean, quiet and well-maintained park with great amenities is what you will find here along with a very friendly staff. (2) We live in the age of WIFI technology and there is nothing to stop any RV Park across this country from investing in doing WIFI properly. For some users such as ourselves, WIFI is an important feature and was one of the reasons for our stay here. We were told both by email and phone that each site had a good wifi signal. The wifi in and around our site was just about non-existent. We were in direct sight of two wifi towers, but still couldn't get a decent connection, even at 5am. Other guests we spoke with also had non-existent wifi! We know enough not to count on a good signal over the weekends, but during the weekday there is no excuse. We even had the WIFI-Ranger on our roof with a direct-line-of-sight to their wifi source. (3) Level pads, big coaches need paved or thick gravel pads that are level. We give this park a 5-star rating for having level gravel sites. (4) Maneuverability, some parks have very narrow roads which make backing up and turning very difficult, we found this park to have plenty of room to maneuver. (5) Dust, some parks are so dusty that even after short stays your unit needs a bath, this place is very dusty compared to many other parks, no grass here. (6) Satellite, as you know satellite reception is very hard to receive when you have large trees. If you stay away from the sites with the tall trees to the south you will receive reception. (7) Phone Service, we have AT&T which worked great here. (8) Dog play and potty, plenty of room to walk your dog here, plus there are two fenced-in dog runs. The Bad.... We had a pull-thru site but could not attach our tow car until after we pulled out. Our site was very long but there was not enough room to pull out of our site without having to back up. Maneuverability with a smaller coach and tow car might be possible.

It's extremely quiet, and just rural enough to feel like you are away from everything, yet not too far from stores or gas stations. There are amenities like portapotties, fire rings, plenty of firewood, and potable water availability at the owners area if needed. The owner Jonathan is awesome- very kind and accommodating, and shares a wealth of information of the area. He is also available for adventure tours if you are nervous about soloing it out in the wilderness. He gave us directions for a shortcut to Bisti, and turned us on to a great local brewery (550). We can't wait to come back this spring with some friends and rent several adjoining sites!

There are so many structures standing here! The loop hike was well marked, with the first portion…read more(going counterclockwise) taking you past the structures along the rim of the canyon, and the second portion descending and ascending the canyon back to the visitor center. I liked how you could get up close to the structures and see them in detail - no entering or touching though! Some were build right on the edge. I wonder how they manage to design them and maintain them on such a precarious position. The visitor center has helpful NPS rangers and a small gift shop. There are some displays, but the best part is to go out and explore! The bathrooms are also nice with running water.
