Besides, it was raining and there was really nothing else to do on our radar. So we took a train and a bus and came upon Tom Tits right as it was opening. Needless to say, we don't have anything like this in the US, and were mesmerized. We stayed all day, and we don't even have kids, it was that much fun! Definitely one of the best days we had on our trip, besides when we went to Kalmar for two days and had the time of our lives. Love Sweden, and wish we could move out there someday. Until the next time, where Tom Tits will definitely be on the list of things to do!

We…read morefinally decided to check out Skansen two days before midsummer, mildly apprehensive about the entrance fee since we still couldn't figure out what Skansen was about, but we hoped there would be midsummer decorations. There was confusion about the train route and after speaking to the gate agent, skipped the extra fee for the train to go up the hill. We were here to walk. At first glance, Skansen is a living museum of how things were done in the olden days, replete with actors. There were no midsummer decorations, though I was told the main thing was the may pole, which we had already seen erected on another archipelago. A delightful surprise was the animal farm (with an almost free roaming peacock) and the Nordic animal zoo. This accidental stumble on animals (bears, bison, reindeer, etc) was my favorite part of Skansen. Overall a neat place to spend an afternoon. Would recommend!

Not that you'll find crazy rides but there's entertainment for kids with some rides, plus not to mention the lounging areas, the animals, and so much more. Came here walking from our hotel , you can catch a bus, and it was just beautiful. I highly recommend a visit. This can be an almost all day thing or just come for a few hours like we didn't.

The Vasa Museum on Djurgården in Stockholm is a 15-20 minute walk from the harbor. This is where the famous warship Vasa is, the ship that sank after a 14-15 hundred meters on its maiden voyage. August 10, 1628 and was raised from the bottom in 1961 after 333 years underwater. The ship is the world's best preserved 17th century ship and consists of about 98% original parts. You walk over several floors and can admire and speculate about how they could make such a ship at that time. You get the whole story by looking and reading the information plates. They have had a copy of the ship made in 1:10, which took 5 years and 12,000 working hours, while the original took about 2 years, started in 1626 and was finished in 1628. This is a must if you are in Stockholm.

Took a free 25 minute tour - very useful for explaining the history behind the ship and its unfortunate sinking - the Titanic of Sweden. The ship itself is breathtaking! Lovingly restored and hopefully they can keep it around for posterity. There's a nice film to watch that provides additional background. Great multi floor exhibits and viewing platforms for the Vasa. Highly recommend!!!

They also have a big section dedicated to Swedish design which was super cool too. We also had a bite in their cafe. The basement floor also has many bathroom stalls so you don't have to wait. We visited quite a few museums in our trip and this was definitely one of the best ones.

It is one of Europe's oldest museums, dating back to 1792 (though this building did not house the collections until 1866). Tickets to the permanent collections are free. When I visited, the temporary exhibit was not something that appealed so I did not purchase a ticket for that one. Most of the paintings are Swedish artists I have never heard of but here and there were some names that I did recognize. Auguste Renoir, Édouard Manet and Paul Cézanne. There is a large Asian exhibit, a display of jewelry (brooches, bracelets and rings), pocketwatches, and much more. Expect two hours at minimum, a half day if you truly want to see everything. The museum has some sort of huge tubes outside and kids were zooming down the tubs having a fabulous time. We are a really delicious lunch in the museum cafe and I recommend it. I had a wonderful vegetarian lunch that was delicious and my husband had a salad with some really good smoked salmon. A lovely place to look at art and have lunch.

The museum has an impressive permanent collection (pieces by Picasso, Dalí, Duchamp, Matisse, etc.). When we visited last week, I was really blown away by an exhibit made up of works from their permanent collection: "Pink Sails: Swedish Modernism in the Moderna Museet Collection." I wasn't familiar with too many Swedish artists, so it was a pleasure to explore this exhibit and experience art that was new to me! The museum is open late (until 8pm on Tuesdays and Fridays), which was great for us - it let us tag on a visit to the museum at the end of a full day of touristing around Gamla Stan. The museum is gorgeous, very modern, with a great gift shop, cafe, and restaurant. A really beautiful museum and well worth visiting if you're interested in modern and contemporary art.

So it was with a little happy 4-y/o friends kid accompanied by us, 3 adults (at least on paper I…read moreguess) that we arrived to Aquaria to see the shark-feeding mentioned on their homepage at 11:00. In the cashier charged all of us, including the little 4 y/o 440kr in total. Woooow!!! We were a little late so we were told to go in by the back entrance so we could see the shark feeding. I saw myself running through rooms for 5-10mins just to get there in time. But that was wrong, it's a 10s walk to the tank. The little room was packed with kids all excited so we had to squeeze us in close to the glass in order to see something. The feeding was a flop because you had to be in the so called glass tunnel (this looked massive on internet but was only like a meter long) which basically fit a handful of kids so most didn't see much. Few minutes later and it was finished. So what else was here but the 10m long aquarium? Well a few with jellyfishes, some exotic fishes, 2 starfishes and a couple of cute seahorses. Next room was much smaller and had a mini waterfall with some salmons in it and lots of vegetation, not much to see. There was a tropic room which was warm and humid with basically nothing much to see. But at least it looked cool walking in a jungle for 15m's around the room. Then there was 2 small containers with farmed salmons from 1-2 year which swam in a circle. Last it was a frog room (held in a 20 square meters) which was kinda exciting to see if you could find the different frogs. If you stretch it, you could spend 20-25mins and that is basically what you get for 440kr for 3.5ppl. If you have time go down to Copenhagen (actually just outside the airport) and you will see a real aquarium instead of this sad place. Or even go and see any of the free fish zoo-stores in Stockholm and have a nicer time. In the end you can spend the 440kr on a nice lunch with a beer or something which will fill you up and make you happy. Aquarium, it's a joke.

SEK 132 plus another 10 to use a locker for a mere four rooms. Luckily, if you purchase the Stockholm Card it's included. The exhibits themselves include a claustrophobic rain forest exhibit with hardly any marine life, a tiny tropical aquarium, frog room and a Nordic exhibit which has practically nothing. Definitely not worth your time and I suggest skipping this attraction.
