MoPho is a good standard to have in the area, tucked neatly into narrow Yarra Lane, a short walk from South Yarra station and accompanied by a smattering of cafes, from a corner sushi place to self-serve fro-yo, and George Calombaris' latest venture, Mama Baba, on the far end.
My man and I ducked in around 8:30 last night for a casual dinner - he ordered the hokkien stir-fry with slow roasted pork belly and greens, and I opted for the shredded chicken noodle soup with sesame, chili oil and cabbage - the lights were dim, the earthen tables inviting, the service extremely friendly. All in all, the atmosphere was wonderfully cozy, perfect for the day's wet weather.
His noodles were flavorful and dotted with rich pork belly, my soup broth full-bodied, and most notably chock full of perfectly poached chicken breast.
At $15 per bowl, you won't find gizzards or slightly more questionable (if not more authentic) meatstuffs here, so if you are looking for a bowl of pure authenticity this may not be your bet. While the food is good quality and mighty tasty, it probably won't change your life either. But as for a reliable stand-by in the neighborhood, with a neat little interior, it's very much welcomed. read more
