The roast dinners have plenty of meat, there are enough vegetarian options to keep me happy and staff are friendly and attentive (though you do have to go to the bar to make orders, they won't come to the table to offer you drinks/food). The décor is in a traditional pub style, with dark wooden furnishings and bar, and is well maintained by the relatively large team of staff employed there. The main downside of the place is it's tendency to be so incredibly busy at weekend lunchtimes, so that it is a bit of a risk to drop by as you may not get a table, or somewhere to park, or may have to wait a long time for them. There are no other places in the vicinity to fall back on, you will have to head back into Barnet. Having said all that, it's definitely a great pub, but maybe too many people know of it's greatness!

The staff were friendly and smiley, as they always are. We ordered lunch and it didn't take long to come out at all. Every dish was cooked perfectly and was spot on and delicious. The team they have working here really provide great customer service. So, it is now my number one gastro pub in the area and have beaten the other four by a consistent and fair mile! I'm going back next week with other friends :). Just because it is a solid reliable place with darn decent food and totally above average team.

We went outside and saw another party walk right in and get seated. Maybe they had reservations but it looked to us like they had been out looking for a place for a bit as well. I want to be fair here so I don't want my speculation to appear as fact...but our perception was that we were refused service because we were Americans. So, to my fellow Americans...don't waste your time if you don't want to feel unwanted (warranted or not).

A workmanlike menu, with a choice of perhaps a dozen mains ( including three roasts, it being Sunday). Roast leg of lamb, and specials of sole and wild boar sausages were all sampled and deemed to past muster - the lamb was tender and a very delicate pink, which is quite a feat in the circumstances. We didn't bother with starters, which was maybe a shame as there were some tasty sounding choices, including moules, and various plates of cured meats etc. The dessert I was pressed into sharing was a pretty stodgy cheescake, billed as "chocolate with toffee sauce" - again, more than serviceable, but slightly disappointing that the toffee sauce was not in evidence. A pretty decent wine list - a few glasses of Malbec were an aid to digestion/the gateway to a Sunday afternoon snooze. Fairly attentive service - we were gently reminded thaty the table was booked for another sitting after us, but only after we'd been there nearly two hours, and with a good fifteen minutes notice. I've not gone the whole five stars simply because I didn't really try enough of a representative sample of the menu, and I was mildly irritated by the constant buffeting from the buffoon at the table behind ( some tables are quite closely spaced).

As you walk in there's a standard local pub bar and TV to watch the game on. Then go through and you've got yourself a wonderfully cosy fire place and restaurant. I've only eaten a few times at the pub but can say extremely confidently that they have a great chef back there. The steak is just amazing and the Sunday roast is to die for! One of the best darned Sunday roasts I've ever had. Their truffle chips are inspired! The service is both friendly and so speedy! Customer service is top and the prices are reasonable. Long live the Abeville and may all pubs aim for their quality!

Inside the pub offers and good lunch and dinner, with prices under the £10 per head mark for what i would describe a wholesome pub grub. Drinks are also very reasonable priced, and the sofa's offer a great place to sit and chat with friends although i would recommend to get there early, as by 9pm the best spots are gone although no late license does limit the pubs appeal of weekends. The secret of this pub is the beer garden with expansive views into the countryside.

The food, the crab salad looked and tasted like tuna. Tasteless, zero flavor etc. The vegan board was completely overpriced and tasteless. Some of the dry toast was hard as a rock and burned. They play good music, the staff is lovely and the food is extremely yum (plus they serve Hendrick's Lunar gin!!!! We went for the game pie and sausages and mash and both were superb!!!! Finished with sticky toffee pudding which was perfect. Will be back!!
