Yet, as a woman of faith I trusted that God would help me find a new tax preparer. . . After a two-week search, I am very thankful to have chosen Ms. Rebecca Barrett. I'm old school when it comes to my taxes so I appreciate tax preparers who are willing to meet face-to-face (especially the first time) to review my documentation (i.e. my prepared spreadsheets). I don't like the idea of sending my documentation to a business via email (even with a secured site) or dropping them off to an office. When it comes to business, money, and/or financial planning, I want to sit across from a seasoned professional and have a conversation. Spent about half the time rambling about people we knew and things going on in Salinas. The bill was ridiculous. All Francis told me was that he bills $330/hr for accounting. My question was, "Did you do some paperwork that I'm unaware of?" He will not get my future business nor the business of my family and friends. What a rip off. Follow up: After seeing my yelp review they decided to write off my bill for the short meeting. The meeting to see if I wanted to use this tax firm. I got a call advising me of this and the caller seemed upset. I was lectured that they bill for time and the caller told me that he did not want my business. Yes, they bill for time doing accounting and I completely understand that. For example, if you buy an ice cream...you pay for the product, the ice cream. You are not billed for waiting in line...that would be excessive and unreasonable. The fact that the caller did not realize this doesn't make it any better.

My taxes are pretty cut and dry, not too complicated, but I still like someone to organize it all for me. It is very easy to get an appt with her come tax season. I have been to HR Block before, but I felt they could care less if I got the best refund. Mrs. Parker asks you a lot of questions to make sure she covers every possible tax break. She also gives you pointers on how to save in the future. An example I learned from her: save your receipts from improvements you made on you house to show when you sell your house.
