Don't give up on this charming little library! They have been closed for much needed renovations, and will reopen in the first week of October, 2023. I am looking forward to seeing how they have improved, upon reopening. They are conveniently located near the center of the small town of Moraga. A quiet, peaceful, rather small library, where I can always count on having a quiet place to read, study, or print out materials from their computers. I have never had trouble getting online here, or printing items out, and the staff is attentive, pleasant, and helpful. Nice, informal music performances from time to time. This is a nice family library, a nice change from the larger ones in Orinda and Lafayette. read more

I have been coming here for the past seven months and this review comes after many visits. This is such a noisy library!!!!! I am absolutely not asking for stone cold silence. That is impossible by today's standards. But what happened to keeping noise level to a minimum? Went there today to study in the morning. I actually arrived about 10 minutes before story time started. The kids noise didn't bother me. What bothered me was the lack of common sense from some of the nannies there. ( I say nannies because I have seen them at Moraga Commons). I get you want to be involved in "your" child's activity and really want to participate. I get it. I am a nanny myself and know exactly how children can be. But chatting, laughing, and making weird noises loudly is not ok in this environment. What about other people there looking for some peace and quiet? What about teaching children that libraries are quiet places and that loudness often bothers people who are there for peace and quiet. What about teaching them boundaries? Or at least watch yourself and at least try to be aware of your surroundings. ALSO, What happened to librarians these days? Many of the librarians and other staffers themselves are way too noisy. At one point, they were actually speaking louder then the loud nannies. Not only they don't take care to speak softly, they frequently lack discretion during information requests. AND they always look annoyed!!! Few months ago I asked for help at the checkout machine and one of the ladies there looked like she was doing me a favor!. I have never asked for help again after that. What happened to common sense? What happened to standards and respect? What happened to the silence rule? Libraries are the last hope for a quiet spot to use your mind. Want to chat? Go to a cafe. Want your kids to learn? Teach them respect: as libraries are NOT bloody daycare. As I said in the beginning, I am no suggesting stone cold silence. But I would at least expect some common sense. Why are all the civilized, sensible rationales hurled away and replaced with inane "one size fits all" frenzied compromises? read more

I had reserved my books online to pick up at this library. I have never been to this branch before and I was surprised when I found it! It's like a little historic building -- it reminds me of the small, neighborhood libraries that have now been torn down to build big, modern buildings in their place. That's why I like coming here; it's like a throw back. Even the little old librarians seem to have been there for eons! I always know that I'll get one-on-one service from them. Plus, they always seem to know tidbits and facts about the library and its programs that I don't learn about at other libraries. read more

Even though I'm a fan of reading books at the library, today I was in need of their computer. Geneva graciously assisted me in how to not only get on the computers (because I have never done this before), but also how the printing computer works. Her personality and attitude were great. The library is small but very clean. The bathroom was very clean as well, immaculate even; however, the smell was that of a campsite bathroom. In the end I was able to do what I needed, in a very nice, and thankfully quiet library. read more

I am a huge reader and a BIG fan of libraries. When I moved to Moraga several years ago I was very happy to visit my local library for the first time. I checked out several books and returned them all on time. A few weeks later I got a call asking why I hadn't returned one of the books. I called the library and explained to them that I was positivie I had returned it. The librarian was extremely rude to me, told me that there was nothing she could do and hung up on me. Never again, Moraga library. Orinda is my friend now. read more

Sweet little library and the staff is warm and welcoming. My kids and I enjoy visiting the library especially on rainy days. They enjoy picking books out and playing in the toy house. Lucky us we live close by. read more

I ran in with 10 minutes to close. I grabbed what I needed and as I was walking to the counter to check out the librarian said no more check outs. She walked away and one of the young girls said she'd check me out. I needed to pay a past due fine so she asked the librarian to override and she refused sending me out the door. Is this what a long time Moraga resident and tax payer gets for her money? Obviously the system was still up and running and it was 5:02 on a Friday. She could have easily helped me. I'm now at the Orinda library where I paid the fee online and checked out easily. I'm very disappointed in Moraga but at least we have Orinda to back us up when the Moraga librarian lets you down. read more

The library was useful for doing reports and projects when I was growing up, however if I phone them now during their open business hours their telephone recording says they are CLOSED. Customer service has gone out the window. read more

The pros: A good collection of books for children. The cons: While I appreciate that this is a "library" , I feel REALLY uncomfortable when I am here with my kids. It is a great space & appears to be set up for kids, but make sure your kid stays in THAT area. Many( but certainly not ALL) seem to dislike having children in there at all, well behaved or not. I also couldn't help but notice Susan's comment. The last time I was in there I heard a woman going through the same thing.(saying she was sure she had turned in some books, and the woman helping her was beyond annoyed). The only reason I ever go there, is because the Lafayette library doesn't open until 1:00 on weekends. read more

First of all, this is not the Library of Congress or the Ritz-Carlton. It is a nice little neighborhood library with fairly decent hours. By using the library's website, it will deliver titles from other libraries in the system, usually within a week. For those who complain about this branch, please consider voting yes for increased library funding next time. You get what you pay for. read more

Very cozy library to take your kids with, especially for the Au Pairs in the area that wants to borrow books and/or DVDs. Why I don't give Moraga Library a 5 is because of the lack of fixing the library card faster, due to the fact that you need something to prove your residence (the address). But fairly nice librarians. Let's see what the future brings! read more

I love our little library -- it's so integral a part of our community with resources for everyone, a very helpful and friendly staff, where everyone knows you. The Friends Bookstore is a small treasure trove where I always find a few books to buy at ridiculously low prices. I've been using libraries regularly for over 70 years and this one is the best! read more

I have had nothing but excellent service when using this library. Thevstaff has been friendly and helpful and the book selection very good. There is a small room where friends of the library sell gently used books. I am very impressed with the programs offered by the library. There has been musical presentations, book discussions, docent talks on art at San francisco museums and plays at local theaters. There are numerous programs for children from lapsits for enfants to teen activities. How fortunate Moraga is to have such a great library. read more
