I took a private photography lesson with Michael Moreland to learn how to use my new DSLR and had a wonderful experience. Initially I was signed up for a group lesson but he offered a private lesson at no extra charge to accomodate my vacation schedule. He held the lesson at his studio in Roswell which was easy to find and breathtakingly beautiful. For the first hour we went over my camera controls and discussed basic exposure concepts. He was a wonderful teacher and had a great way of simplifying the concepts of apeture, shutterspeed and ISO. He also explained how the settings on my camera display and computer monitor need to be just right to know exactly how my printed photo's will look. I had never thought of this before and it made all the difference. After the classroom lesson we went outside to a number of picturesque spots on the property so I could practice my skills. My neighbor tagged along to act as my model and I got some great shots. No, I GOT A TON OF AMAZING SHOTS!!! I couldn't believe how his coaching allowed me to get high-end professional shots with my entry-level DSLR. If I didn't know better I would have guessed they were taken with a $5k camera and by a seasoned professional. I left his studio energized and reinspired to embrace creative photography all over again. Now that I have the fundamentals down I can finally get the results I've always wanted. Since my lesson Mike continues to stay in touch and I don't hesitate to ask advice on new lenses and lighting equipment so I can continue to expand my scope and creativity. If you don't know the vocabulary of photography let me just tell you, Mike's lighting and composition are flawless. You know those pictures that make you go, "Wow. That's really nice!" Well, every shot he takes is like that. Yes, he has the best equipment, studio space, showy umbrella lighting and electronic plugins for days, but even lousy wedding "pros" who have that could never come near Mike's classic, memorable photos. 30 years in business doing what he loves has only polished the natural talent you see in his work. Mike Moreland was the photographer for our engagement photos as well as our wedding day. It was an easy choice to have him as our photographer after seeing the photos he had taken of other brides and their weddings. We were glad that we did an engagement photo shoot, because not only did it give us an opportunity to see how easy it is to work with Mike, but it also gave us great pictures to use for our save the date cards and picture décor for the wedding day. We had several compliments from our friends and family members on the appearance of our Save the Date cards. Everyone loved the pictures and the layout. We worked with his office manager Tiffany to let her know what we wanted the cards to say. She was a pleasure to work with as well. On our wedding day, Mike and his assistant Lauren arrived early to take pictures of us getting ready and also to do some pictures of the family and wedding party before our wedding ceremony started. They both did a wonderful job capturing all of the details, helping us know where and how to pose, as well as making everyone feel at ease. They knew what was important to us, because not only did Mike meet with us twice prior to the wedding, but he also had a very thorough form for us to complete so that he would know what was important to us on the day of the wedding. My husband and I talked after the wedding and agreed that having a number of photos done before the ceremony started was the way to do it. It enabled us to have more time to spend visiting with our guests after the ceremony and before the reception. Mike and Lauren were able to get amazing photos of the wedding ceremony without us even realizing that they were there! They did a great job of capturing all of the endearing moments without causing a distraction. The reception that we had ended up being a bit crowded, but they still managed to be where they were needed for all of the special moments like the bouquet toss and cake cutting. Following our reception, Mike surprised us by taking photos of just my husband and me at a nearby park that has special meaning to us. The timing was perfect, because we were able to get pictures of us in our wedding attire while walking off into the sunset. It was just the type of relaxing photo session that we needed after hosting the wedding and entertaining all of our guests. The three of us had a great time together, and Mike knows photography better than anyone else we have ever met. After we returned from our honeymoon, we were shown a beautiful slide show of our wedding photography that was set to music. Mike and Tiffany chose charming music and delightful photos to make our slide show one that we wanted to watch every day for several days after we brought it home. My husband said to me, "Mike will be our family photographer from now on". My florist said "your photographer was amazing". Now we just can't wait to show the images to all of our friends and family. We are so proud of our pictures that Mike and Lauren took that we are going to have a special "premier showing" for our friends to come over and enjoy them with us. Mike and his crew are amazing photographers. They shot our wedding and several commercial shoots for me. I can't say enough about their ability to frame shots that make for incredible photographs. They don't just own DSLR cameras and say they are photographers. The camera Mike shoots with is a $10,000 camera. That's not including the lenses. The have incredible knowledge with regards to lighting the photos properly. They have a creative eye for finding that unique pose and shot. The attention to detail is fantastic. They don't just show up and take pictures. For my wedding, we met with him several times. He asked a million questions to understand what's important for us and what's not. They took so many photos and put up I think 4,000 photos on the proofing website for my wife and I to review. They captured every moment. They got the shots that we didn't even notice. I have to say that there is something very special about Mike and his team of photographers. We paid him for two photographers but there were three there because he said, he wanted to make sure he captured every moment. I can't recommend Moreland Photography enough. Mike shot new promo photos when I needed them and captured several excellent images. I've received many, many compliments on photos from that shoot and have gotten great use from them. Two of the shots ended up featured on the front and back of my cd insert six months later. That wasn't my intent when I did the shoot, but they were that good. Mike was easy-going to work with and extremely knowledgeable. He knows what he is doing and has an excellent eye. Also, he's responsive -- when I needed some photo edits and some additional still images on short notice, he worked both right in and was very fair on the pricing.
