This marker sits at an important intersection in the center of the original downtown of the city of…read moreNew Albany. The buildings and the layout show the design of the last two centuries. The marker is in excellent condition and is on two sides. On the first side, it reads "New Albany lots were advertised for sale 1813. It was designated county seat 1819, incorporated as town 1836, then as city 1839. Area within the district was part of early plat of New Albany. District boundaries are roughly West 1st to East 5th streets and East Spring to East and West Main streets." On the second side, "District reflects the historical development and commercial growth of New Albany. It contains a collection of outstanding examples of nineteenth and twentieth century commercial and institutional buildings and a few domestic structures. Listed in National Register of Historic Places 1999." It's worth a visit. [Review 13502 overall, 821 of 2020.]

We Stopped by this historical marker in front of the Shepherdsville courthouse while walking…read morethrough downtown. It's a nice little piece of local history about Adam Shepherd and how the town got started. The sign is well kept and easy to read, but it's really just a quick stop -- not much else around it besides the courthouse lawn. Worth a look if you're already in the area, but probably not something you'd go out of your way to see. Glad to see Shepherdsville is adding all their historical significance

This is a nice sculpture located just outside of the entrance to the Falls of the Ohio Interpretive…read moreCenter right off the water. The bronze statue depicts Meriwether Lewis and William Clark shaking hands near the Falls of Ohio where Lewis has landed in 1803. The statue also marks the area where Lewis and Clark embarked on their historic expedition of discovery. The sculpture was created by the late C.A (Carol) Grende in 2003 and stands 10 feet tall and sits on a 4-foot-tall, 16.5-ton slab of 387-million-year-old Jefferson limestone. it was originally displayed at the Southern Indiana Visitors Center for a year before being moved to its current location. Parking is available nearby, but you will have a bit of a walk or you can park by the curb in front of the statue and jump out, see what you have to see and then continue on your trip. This is a marker for a piece of local history. It is a nice sculpture with a very interesting back story. It is worth a brief stop as part of a larger trip at the Falls of Ohio and the many attractions there.

I had this statue on the list of things to see and do while in the area but I couldn't find the location of statue by Yelp search... so I made a page so that others could located it easier. I was only able to find it because I asked a local and they said "I think it's down the road by the Falls... go straight down that road". All I knew it was on the river somewhere but wasn't sure which side IN or KY. You can find the statue in the Falls of the Ohio State Park next to a building named Falls of the Ohio Interpretive Center over looking the falls in the background. "October 14, 1803, Merriweather Lewis came from Washington D.C. and met William Clark at the Falls of the Ohio River. When they shook hands, the Lewis and Clark Expedition began. October 26, 1803, The "Corps of Discovery" departed from Clarksville at the Falls of the Ohio on their journey to the Pacific ocean to explore the American West. November 05, 1806, returned to the Falls of the Ohio." This is a nice little piece of history right here!

Located in the popular shop and eatery district of the city right in front of the jailers inn appropriately. This is a very fun and popular photo op for all visitors and residents of the small town. The old jail house makes for a cool and fun backdrop as well. Overall a really cool thing to check out in a small area of town with all kinds of neat things to explore and check out.

Very cool and large monument of Thomas Jefferson located right in front of the Kentucky courthouse…read morein downtown Louisville. Monument is a Longtime staple of sight sworn tours of the Louisville downtown area. It is also located next to a couple other cool monuments and just steps away from a lively food and and bar area. Worth a stroll for a photo op if you are in the area or dining nearby on 4th street.

The statue was presented to the city by two public-spirited businessmen of the city in November 1901 and was unveiled at ceremonies that included addresses by former Governor of Kentucky William O'Connell Bradley and Mayor Charles P. Weaver. Louisville is the county seat of Jefferson County. The statue is bronze and represents Jefferson presenting the Declaration of Independence to the First Congress. He stands atop a bronze pedestal, which represents the famous Liberty Bell https://www.yelp.com/biz/liberty-bell-center-philadelphia-2. On the outside of the bell are four modeled figures that represent Liberty, Equality, Justice and the Brotherhood of Man. Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) was third President of the United States (from 1901 to 1809), second Vice President of the United States (1797-1801) and, amongst other roles, served as the second Governor of Virginia (1779-1781). Back in those days, the Commonwealth of Virginia extended much further west and included the areas that are now West Virginia and Kentucky. After retiring from public office, Jefferson founded the University of Virginia. And while some modern scholars have been critical of Jefferson's involvement with slavery, he is consistently rated highly amongst other US Presidents. The whole statue is 25 feet high. I'm a big fan of covered bridges and old Timey things such as landmarks bridges statues or things…read morelike that. So this one is a cool addition it's called Mount Zion covered bridge. And it is exactly what it is it is a bridge picture from point a to point B and a small little town and it's got a cover over it and I enjoy seeing different places like this

Outside is real pretty, but inside is a hot mess of the names of local teens or what not. It's a real shame, because it's otherwise in great condition. It's a good excuse for a drive to see the scenery around Bardstown. We went to the Donkey Tree after for even more fun.

The sign is well maintained and gives clear background on the county's naming and early Kentucky history, which is interesting if you like local or state history. That said, it's very simple -- no additional context, photos, or nearby features to make it more engaging. It's a nice stop if you're already in the area or passing through, but not something I'd plan a trip around.

Easy to miss as it's labeled with a small marker on the ground with the "read to succeed" message. Overall it's always cool to see public art or monuments and this one is no different. I like how it fits the theme of reading and being on a library property and sending a positive message.
