Wow. What a selection for a small hotel restaurant. The folks here are really friendly and the food is fantastic! I went in to get the shrimp and grits after a recommendation from someone at my hotel down the road. I saw a chopped salad being brought to the next table, and I immediately changed my mind. I immediately thought of George Costanza on Seinfeld talking about "the big salad". I took a shot. Honestly, that was the best chicken salad I have ever had in a restaurant. Yeah, it's in a hotel. Got into Morgan City around 7:30pm on a Monday for a quick work trip, and I was grateful there was a restaurant that wasn't fast food still open for me to grab dinner. Note that this restaurant is inside a hotel. Service was friendly. Our server made a couple of suggestions for me since it was my first time dining here. I went with the Cali grilled chicken sandwich. Unfortunately it wasn't that great. The chicken was rubbery and the sandwich was overall salty. I ended up throwing most of it away. HORRIBLE SERVICE....Went tonight and WILL NEVER return. The last two times I dined there the food was not very good but to be fair I gave them another chance tonight. This time the hostess sat me down and gave me a menu. There were three tables with patrons in the entire restaurant so they were not busy. One waitress was waiting on one table with three people and then doing other things. The other server came out of the back went to the front desk and sat another customer in the table next to me. She took his drink order and then returned with his drink. I thought she would serve me but NOOOO, she walked right past me and went to the counter and started chatting with the hostess. This is unacceptable for a paying customer to be ignored so I will NEVER be a paying customer again. I cannot comment on the food because it never got that far because of bad servers.. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! All the staff were friendly and accommodating. I ordered the Gumbo soup, it was outstanding! My boyfriend always raves about this restaurant because this is where they have their meetings and dinner when they fish tournaments out of Morgan City, and I'm so glad I finally got to experience it. We did not get to eat the buffet because we went on a Saturday night. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive all night. We started out with the gator bites, which were so delicious! Did not get a picture because we were starving from fishing all day and dug in immediately. Our side salads were fresh and great tasting too. But the shrimp and grits were the star of the show! The grits were cooked perfectly, and the shrimp were seasoned so well. We didn't save room for dessert this time, but he always says how amazing the bread pudding is! We will definitely be back, and I've already told him this is the only place we can eat at on future trips down that way! read more

Kind of surprising but this throwback motel restaurant is really good. Probably the best restaurant in town. I had the gumbo. It was excellent and you get plenty of it. Someone else in my group had the shrimp & grits, they're outstanding. Another person got a pretty remarkable pizza. Wide menu but everything seems to be really good here. My husband, my sister and brother in law and I went to the Friday Night Seafood Buffet. We were invited by Keisha the manager. Our waitress Bethany was all smiles and so attentive. She made sure we had everything we needed. The buffet had so many options. We didn't know where to start. The best part was the gumbo and the fried fish. The side items were also really good. The dessert table was full of all sorts of puddings, pies, cobblers and cakes. My favorite was the carrot cake and this chocolate pie that just melts in your mouth. Keisha the manager invited us to the Seafood Buffet and the experience that we got was nothing short of perfect. We always stop in to Morgan's Restaurant for the Maw Maw's Fried Chicken Dinner anytime we pass through. After trying out the dinner buffet, we will now be making sure we hang around for that too. read more

Fantastic seafood buffet on a Friday night ($22 all-you-can-eat). It's really worth it considering the amount of fresh crawfish, shrimp, crab meat and fish that go into their dishes. Just hosted a baby shower at Morgans and the food was fabulous with choices for everyone. The service was exquisite. They made my guests feel well cared for. Admittedly, we were a little hesitant to go in because the restaurant is inside a Holiday Inn, but I had read positive reviews elsewhere and we didn't really know the area, so we gave it a shot. We walked in and the smell of stale smoke still had us second guessing, but we were seated immediately and we decided to give it a shot. We arrived at an awkward hour in the afternoon and our waitress Holly notified us that some of the items were still being prepped, but she was lovely and recommended some sandwiches and available dishes. In the meantime, she offered us some bread, and, let me tell you... those little rolls were delicious! The food came shortly afterwards and the portions were big and the food was tasty. In our party we had three different things, the pollo loco, chicken caesar salad and a shrimp po boy. Everything was delicious but the chicken was especially juicy and flavorful. The food was great, our waitress Holly was adorable and great, the only hiccup was the location, but for food that good, you can definitely look past your surroundings. read more

First of all I want to compliment the staff. Excellent folks. Basic hotel lobby restaurant. Nothing fancy. I wanted a fried oyster Plate with potato salad and a cup of gumbo. I could have gotten this meal but we would have to deconstruct a sandwich so I just decided to have a bowl of gumbo and potato salad. I love gumbo. 40 years I conisuire this incredible dish. Their menu said it's recipe is original for 20 years. I received the bowl of gumbo and side of potato salad. The gumbo had no color and the potato salad was a mashed potatoes style. I know from 40 years of traveling to this great state of Louisiana that you NEVER judge the taste of the food by it's looks. You judge the food by the way it tastes. The gumbo portion was huge. The ingredients looked wonderful. Taste????? Ok there was no body. I had to unscrew the top of the salt shaker and pepper shaker and season the gumbo. Of course it had rained so the condiments are difficult. Don't get me wrong about the seasonings. The potato salad???? I made sure I ate all of it. I am a chunky potato salad guy.. so you got you're answer. I couldn't give you all a 3 and there isn't a 2 1/2. Have your chef venture to a hole in the wall restaurant in the garden district in New Orleans. Let him taste GUMBO. Also let him have a great red beans and rice experience. My husband and I were staying at the hotel and needed some food after an 8 hour day of driving. We were seated quickly and the waitress was very friendly. We shared an order of the Ribs n' shrimp with onion rings and toast. Wow! The food was delicious! The ribs were tender and the bbq sauce had just the right amount of heat. The friend shrimp was divine, and the onion rings cooked to perfection! I'm only sorry we were only staying one night! I stayed in Clarion Hotel of which this restaurant resides in. So it's automatic that I eat at the Morgan's. The lunch buffet was very good. Being a vegetarian it's always a pain to eat in a comfort foods restaurant, but to my surprise, they don't cut corners preparing vegetable dishes. While other guests go for turkey legs and chicken wings, I was content with my abundance of cooked vegetable selection. Coffee was a bit strong for me though. Lunch was good, so I had dinner there the same night. I had a vege pizza. Instead of baked, I think they cooked it on a skillet. It was so delicious and different, the texture and the mountain of veges they put on made me guilty to finish it all by myself. I wish they had a little more fruit selection in their menu. But overall the Morgan's was an excellent experience for a visitor 2,000 miles away. I will go back if I visit the area again. read more

Definitely best restaurant in the area. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. They know the menu very well and have great recommendations for those of us who are indecisive. The portions are ridiculous...you eat your meal, have leftovers and then your leftovers will have leftovers. if you have the opportunity to go to any of their buffets I definitely recommend that so you can try everything they have to offer in one sitting. A group of 6 of us ate there last evening. There was not a salad bar or a buffet. That must be just for lunch. Our server was very friendly and straight forward. We asked her if a certain item was good and she said she wouldn't recommend it. We liked her honestly. We were disappointed that they were out of soup and Moscato wine (having told us they had it). I ordered the salad with grilled chicken. It was very good. The curly fries were not like Arby's, they were more like trusted steak fries. They tasted good but I was expecting something else. The veggie pasta was good, but filling. The veggie pizza was a little greasy but edible. The chicken in a cloud was good as was the hanger steak. The side veggie with the steak was English peas. I am staying at the hotel and decided to give if a try. I'm really glad I did too. The people were very friendly when entering the restaurant and I was seated right away. I was kinda nervous because of that too because there were not many people seated. They have a full menu with lots of choices. The dinner rolls were piping hot and served with butter. I chose the Redfish Rodeo topped with shrimp in a creamy creole sauce served with rice. It was good!! It was a fairly decent size fillet served hot. Morgan's Restaurant lies within the Clarion Hotel. Sometimes the parking can be hard to find, and you may have to park behind the hotel, but usually this isn't the case. The restaurant itself is located at the front of the hotel. When you walk through the front entrance the restaurant seating area is to your left. During our visit we were immediately and warmly greeted and welcomed. We chose to dine on a Friday night since they were having their seafood buffet. The buffet was fully stocked, clean, and full of very appetizing dishes like fried catfish, fried shrimp, seafood gumbos, seafood parmesans. Most dishes had seafood as an ingredient. The food was delicious to say the least. There were slices of cheesecake and various pie slices offered at the beginning of the buffet. The lighting was good, the atmosphere was nice and quiet, and drinks were filled within a good time frame. Will visit here again soon. It's worth the price. read more
