This place was simply great, the peanut rice dish topped with many different veggies, like kale, chives, peppers, cabbage, etc. was just great but the Don Beluchi soup they had was one of the best soups I've ever tried, and the bread that went with it was divine as well. Delicious, healthy and very reasonably priced. Copenhagen in general is a pricy place to eat, and I'm glad to have found such a delicious little place to have dinner. Apparently the menu changes due to who the chef is that day, and we had a fantastic meal. My husband and I both had the red curry over rice with fresh steamed veggies - so satisfying and healthy. If you're going into Christiania for the first time and it's dark out, be aware that it is a poorly lit area and could easily be confusing. We were just wondering around on our bicycles and found this place. It said vegetarian and organic so we decided to wait until it opened (midday). Although a few minutes later it was midday, there was no sign of the place opening. Fifteen past midday and yes, it was worthwhile the wait. My friend described it as the best beetroot soup ever! I particularly loved the humus and the salad. The service was great and friendly prices too. Then we arrived at our hostel and saw that it was a very popular place on the Internet engine searches! The salad was pretty good. It had a nice dressing. The hummus was very bad. It tasted watered down and was gritty. Really awful. The fava beans were good. Nothing special, but tender and had a nice taste. The beets were okay. They were pretty bland and boring. The pasta was well cooked, but pretty bland. The chickpeas were also pretty boring and didn't have much flavor. The miso soup was also okay. Not that much flavor and it tasted similar to matzah. The bread was still warm and was very good. It had a dense inside and a nice crunch. Pretty good taste. Probably my favorite part. How can a tiny coop earn my five stars in a city studded with great eats? Uh-uh! Summer of '69 meets danish hyggeligt. So authentic, so unpretentious... and so cheap :) This peaceful oasis lies right at the heart of free town Christiania (some would argue that heart would be Pusher's Street, to each it's own). Serving lunch and dinner with a rotating vegetarian menu, always fresh, always wholesome + they offer hands down the best Chai Latte in the western world. Morgenstedet has a split personality. In wintertime you enter a warm, cozy, almost buccolic haven, usually playing Dylan's tunes and bursting with patrons, making it difficult to find a place to seat. But Morgenstedet really blooms in spring, where you can seat outside (of course you can seat outside in winter too, providing you are feeling vikingy!) share your table with beautiful people, sip your chai and contemplate life from the perspective of a flower child. Ah, life is good! Just a small side note: This place doesn't serve alcohol but nobody minds if you bring your own. Christiania's beer just down the street. Traveling around expensive Scandinavia for a few weeks, I was trying to eat as cheap as possible which meant I wasn't eating healthy. Particularly missing was fresh vegetables. When I was at Christiania for the first time, I heard about Morgenstedet so decided to give it a try. First off, I suggest mapping this place out on Google Maps beforehand. Along with GPS on my iPhone, I was able to find this place. When I first arrived, it was a bit intimidating since all the workers were busy cooking and chopping vegetables, and there was no "counter" where you place your order. The menu board was in English which was helpful. I ended up ordering from one of the cooks a plate with rice and vegetables with peanut sauce. This is a self-service place so you grab your own utinsels, pour your own water, and pick up your own meal. My plate was chock full of fresh vegetables, just what I needed! The veggies went well with the peanut sauce and rice. You pay before you leave. Like most places in Christiania, no cards accepted, only cash. And ATMs are only found outside of Christiania's borders. They will accept US dollars and Euros if you don't have any Danish kroner. I forgot how much I paid, but it was under $15 which was all-inclusive. Not bad considering how much fresh vegetables I got. Decor wasn't much, but I liked how the ingredients were still out in the dining area. I love these no-frills type of eateries. I would definitely come back if I'm ever in Copenhagen again. read more

Dinner here tonight reminds me why this is my favorite place to dine out in Copenhagen: 1) The dishes are consistently fresh and uncomplicated 2) Prices are completely reasonable. 3) There is variety (a tough thing to find around here) 4) Friendly service and open atmosphere (even tougher) One of the main reasons I don't enjoy dining out in Copenhagen is because of the awful service one receives while eating food that, in my opinion, tries a bit too hard. (How many times have I been told about amazing restaurant, only to find food drowning in too many toppings and sauces?) Morgenstedet seems to cook up fresh creations using ingredients that are seasonal and high-quality. Tonight I had polenta casserole topped with zucchini, sharp Italian cheese (possibly Asiago or Pecorino) and an onion marinara sauce. So good, make ya wanna slap yo mamma. If you are not veggie, please don't write this place off. I always bring meat-loving friends here and never have I had anyone give anything but praise to this place. True, this place is not appointed to impress--the furniture is mostly wooden benches and chairs--and plates are from a yard sale, but this shows the confidence they have in the food. Ady if you are really choosing a restaurant because it won some design award for the decor...you would not be happy at Morgenstedet. Another pretty unique (and very Christiania) feature is that the tables are communal, so you always end up sitting with people from all over the world and people are pretty friendly! Fresh and delicious. This place is fantastic. Nothing better than great-tasting food that's healthy for you and makes you feel good. Ate here twice during my three days in Copenhagen. Tried for a third time but it was closed. Everything was super tasty, but my favorite things were the hummus-textured ones. One was white-bean based. And the other was green, I don't really remember what it was. I found the people working there to be really nice. They knew off-hand what was vegan and what wasn't. After a nice walk along the pond it was very clear I was in hippie town. Morgenstedet is somewhat hidden off the main streets in what would be similar to a village or campground. I ordered the combo for 110k which was rice/curry sauce/veggies and choice of two salads. Everything was delicious but the celery root coconut salad really stood out. I am going to try and replicate this at home. I did snap a pic of my food shortly before another patron was told not to take pictures of the menu above the counter. I guess there are no pictures allowed in the Christianshavn area. The dude will abide and took no more but will post the one I already have. It was very dark on the way out so a visit with daylight might be more suitable for a first time visitor. read more

I had been wanting to visit Morgenstedet since last year, when I visited Copenhagen and it was unfortunately closed. I returned two months ago, and it was open... Huzzah! The setting is nice, located in a quiet area in Christiania away from the main 'strip'. It is fenced off like a little house, which makes the approach quite pleasant. What the very positive reviews didn't tell me is that Morgenstedet doesn't use salt. Like, any. The bean soup I got tasted like, well, unseasoned beans, and the broth like water. Relatively expensive for what is what and for Christiania, it was disappointing. Just around the corner from Morgenstedet is a great life omni café which actually has more for vegetarians and vegans; the vegan carrot cake is to die for. The place is pretty much a godsend in that sense as it can be hard enough as a lacto-ovo vegetarian in this town.
