It was good but small portions mostly cabbage which gives the illusion that it's more than it is. Very small portions of chicken, peanuts, and kimchi. Although Everything was fresh. I never thought I would be saying this about porridge of all things. But, Grød truly opened my eyes in terms of how I could prepare my daily oatmeal. We tried Grød at two locations: the Torvehallerne market and at 7Eleven. The market, I ordered the Oat Porridge which came with apples, roasted almonds and caramel sauce, my mom had the All In! and my dad had the oat waffle. All of us (mostly) left satisfied. My picky father loved his waffle. And I really enjoyed the porridge I had. The oats perfectly cooked, the apples and almonds gave it a nice textural contrast. Plus the caramel, which was more like a dulce de leche added the perfect amount of sweetness without being too sweet. My mom was a bit ambivalent because the All In was too sweet. But to be fair, All In includes all of their toppings. Including chocolate and caramel so her assessment was fair! The Grød at 7Eleven had this wonderful chia pudding, layered with yogurt, natural peanut butter, a berry compote and nuts and I was obsessed. So simple, yet so wholesome. Came to try Grod again after 10 years. The first time in 2014, it was after weeks of not having much Asian food while backpacking through Europe and I was craving familiarity when I saw "congee" on the menu which automatically peaked my interest. The rice porridge with peanuts, soy, sesame oil and cilantro were all what I am used to eating at home. I enjoyed it so much that I came back a second time before departing CPH. Now in 2024, I wanted to try it again to see if it was purely nostalgia or if I still feel the same way. We decided to order the Mushroom Risotto and Chicken Congee. I noticed there is two types of congee on the menu now, plain or with chicken. The mushroom risotto was very good, there was some acidity to it which was nice and quite large a portion. I almost couldn't finish it. Comforting bowl of goodness to have in the morning that's also easy on the stomach. The chicken congee included all of the same accoutrements but there may be a different cooking method used. I recall previously, the congee had plain rice porridge but this time the porridge was tinted light brown likely from cooking with soy sauce. The first few bites were delicious. The addition of the chicken made it a heartier meal. Towards the middle/end though we could not help but notice the porridge was getting saltier and saltier making us down liters of water. Due to this, we did not finish the bowl of porridge as it was too salty for us. I think it still had the essence and soul of congee but it may have been even better with less soy or no soy in the rice porridge at all and have the soy sauce on the side for those who want to add to their taste. Absolute delight of a place! It is located inside the TorvehallerneKBH food market. There were quite a few sweet and savory options but we were in a mood for the latter so we ordered the Chicken Congee which looked quite interesting - it has chicken, peanuts, sesame, spring onions etc. The picture I took does not do justice on how delicious this bowl was! I think I wish there were more available toppings such as flax seeds or more fruit besides blueberries and bananas. This restaurant does mostly does oatmeal, acai, porridges and pasta. I opted for the acai bowl, which was okay. The peanut butter was very natural and thick, and complemented the acai sweetness, and they were generous with the blueberries and banana but the acai wasn't particularly sweet or mindblowing. It was quite expensive as well for an acai bowl. The service was fast as well and the workers all very kind. The ambiance was clean and pop artist inspired, playing lots of Kanye and Frank Ocean. My airbnb was really close to Torvehallerne (a two-building food hall with farmer's market outside) and this place noticeably had a long line right at opening. For breakfast they focus on acai bowls and porridge that you can customize. It's a really great option for someone trying to make healthy choices while wanting some variety. My wife said we needed to go try this quintessential Nordic porridge place. So, we went. I didn't find anything great about it. But, the rest of the family really like it. They liked it so much we went back a second time during our week in Copenhagen. We tried various types of porridge/oatmeal and a chicken congee. I didn't think the porridge/oatmeal was anything special, but did enjoy their chicken congee. The girls who worked there were an especially upbeat and happy bunch. So, that made the experience better as well. I must admit that paying the equivalent of $15 for a large bowl of oatmeal at a food stall did dampen my enthusiasm a bit. I know this sounds crazy. But I love oatmeal. Grød makes far and away the most delicious and satisfying oatmeal or Grød that I have ever tasted. The bowl I had was super creamy with a silk like consistency. Topped with caramel, diced apple and roasted almonds. Unbelievable. I honestly can't stop thinking about it. Holy hipster, Batman! For all of you visiting from the States, this place has Pacific Northwest hipsters written all over it. A stall in a food market that sells artisan porridge, am I in an episode of Portlandia? After several days of eating too many pastries, I was in the mood for something a bit lighter. The crisp fall weather called for something warm, and this porridge stand came highly recommended on Yelp. The prices listed are for a "regular" size, and the "large" is 10 dkk more. The regular is enough for a snack, but if you are looking for a full meal, I would go with the large. There are both sweet and savory options, and we tried the Special Porridge (savory/sweet) and the Daal (savory). The Daal was nontraditional, but absolutely delicious. It was topped with a thick sour cream, which added a nice creamy, sour element. It also had almonds, which seemed odd, but they added some necessary texture. The Special Porridge was good, but something I could easily make at home - I wouldn't call it "special". The toppings were the best part. The service was a bit cold, but that may have been on account of our ordering in English. It also took a lot longer than you would think to scoop up two cups of porridge. My favorite is the Oat Porridge II and add peanut butter (ah-mazing), banana, and cocoa nibs. I also recommend the açaí bowl and chia special. We got the grøds fritter (grøds fritters), which was 4 crispy fritters with mild sriracha-dip as appetizer, and shared the aspargesrisotto (asparagus risotto) topped with finely grated ravost, pea shoots, lemon vinaigrette and black pepper and the svampebygotto (mushroom barley-otto) that had pickled mushrooms, ravost, thyme, pea shoots and black pepper. Both porridges had sour notes from the lemon vinaigrette and pickled mushrooms, which was unexpected, but were delicious. Our favorite was the fritters, which had soft textures with a nice, savory flavor. This place specializing in porridge which is a typical breakfast in Denmark. The porridge is "creamy" but I'm not sure if they actually cook the oats with milk. I got the Porridge 2 which had 3 toppings, their homemade granola, cooked cinnamon apples and yogurt. I liked it. Oatmeal is one of the breakfasts that is in my rotation so I appreciated that they were elevating a simple dish. I don't think it's a breakfast that I would want to have for brunch, where I typically treat myself, but I would be happy to eat it as a regular breakfast. Even two years after visiting Copenhagen, Grød stands out as one of the highlights. We enjoyed their various porridges so much that we ate twice at this location and once at a different location in the 4 days we were in Copenhagen. I thought the porridge itself was really special and I loved the chocolate and peanut butter combination...I think I'll get like banana or something next time though because the hazelnuts weren't working for me but that's my own fault. Grød is located in the glass market and that is basically the central market of Copenhagen. It is located in the second building and it can get very crowded. They do not have many seating options, so you often have to take your food to go when you come here, but it is okay. Also, there stealing options are very limited so if you come here with more than one person, you really cannot eat here..but it is not that Grød is a small restaurant..it is just that it is in the glass market. My favorite thing at Grød is the porridge. I love making my own porridge and getting a medium porridge with banana, peanut butter, and chocolate chips..it is heaven. We came here for breakfast because our hostel was right beside it. There aren't much tables and it's just bar stools but it wasn't too crowded.
