We ended up taking a shot with Notre Dame and were absolutely amazed by the professionalism, warmth and caring of every individual worked with. The level of detail and the reassurance they gave my mother in law was priceless. I cannot say enough about the service they provided for my loved ones. Hospice is truly the most selfless service around and I would argue that his care through them far exceeded what he experienced in the hospital. I went in expecting to pay my plan's usual $40 copay, but instead received a $400 bill. Ochsner bills physical therapy visits at this location as if they were hospital services. This often causes the visits to be treated as out‑of‑network for physical therapy, resulting in dramatically higher charges. This appears to be a tactic to collect far more money than what is typically billed under a standard physical therapy copay. These billing practices are extremely unethical and, frankly, exhausting. I feel financially abused by Ochsner. This location is not a hospital, so why is Ochsner allowed to bill physical therapy appointments here under hospital billing codes? How are people supposed to afford this? Are our tax dollars, which fund Medicare, also overpaying for physical therapy here while people with private insurance are stuck with $400 bills per visit--on top of the premiums we already pay?

Their efforts were commendable so much so that once I finished my first round of PT, I decided to give them a chance and after 3 weeks they have completely restored my trust in their professionalism, courtesy compassion and expertise. It is a large facility but the therapist and support team are attentive and considerate. The receptionist Madelyn is so very kind and pleasant, Craig is very courteous, observant, and professional. And Henry the PT working with me, is knowledgeable, kind, hardworking and is great to work with. Stacy, Ramiro, Tiffany, and Camelia are all kind and pleasant. These are the ones who have worked with me. The facility may be very large but they truly give great care to all patients. I thought it only fair to share this good report given I shared apparently a one off occurrence. It just takes so long for them to schedule tests, then to get results from tests, then follow-up procedure scheduling. We have called the office, left messages with no response. Meanwhile, my husband is in pain, can't do anything and we wait, and we wait and we wait and nothing from them; nothing but promises that someone will call us tomorrow or the next day or the next and that doesn't happen. So, add frustration to the pain and anger begins to build. All the staff is very nice and friendly, but there's a breakdown somewhere and something has to be done.

Please review your EOB carefully after an annual physical at Ochsner…read more My son previously had an annual preventive visit at Ochsner and unexpectedly received an additional problem-oriented office-visit charge. Because of that experience, when I saw Jillene Amow, NP, for my own annual physical on April 30, 2026, I was specifically careful not to raise unrelated medical issues or seek treatment for a separate condition. Despite this, Ochsner billed both the preventive physical (CPT 99396) and a separate Level 4 problem-oriented visit (CPT 99214), resulting in a $25 copay. I disputed the charge, and Ochsner later acknowledged in writing that the Level 4 service was not supported. However, instead of removing the additional office visit, Ochsner changed it to CPT 99212, a Level 2 problem-oriented visit, and I was again billed the same $25. What apparently triggered the separate charge was that, while routine labs were being ordered, I asked to have my zinc level checked. I briefly explained that I had previously experienced neck itching and was taking over-the-counter zinc. I was not seeking evaluation or treatment for the itching. There was no new prescription, medication change, referral, or separate follow-up. The medical note itself says the condition was "well controlled with zinc" and that the zinc level was added "at Client request." What makes this particularly frustrating is that approximately one-third of my time with the NP was spent in a casual conversation about my skin-care products. She commented that my skin looked very good and asked what products I used because she was interested in trying similar products herself. That was certainly not a problem-focused medical evaluation. The issue for me is not the $25. It is the billing practice and lack of transparency. After my son's experience, I intentionally tried to keep my visit strictly preventive, yet I still ended up with an additional problem-oriented office-visit charge. I have formally requested a Coding Compliance review from Ochsner. I am sharing my experience because other patients should be aware of this possibility. If you go to Ochsner for an annual physical, carefully review your EOB afterward and check whether an additional office-visit code was billed alongside your preventive-care code. I believe patients deserve to know when something discussed during a preventive visit is going to be treated as a separately billable service, especially when it can result in an unexpected copay.
