Ms.Gay, the director, always has a positive anecdote at noon when his mom or I pick him up. There are special visitors who come in to give a lesson. For instance, someone from the Audobon came to tell the children about foxes . The school even includes special lessons such as Karate, music and swimming lessons. There are learning centerrs which are switched out periodically so they always seem vibrant. I am not usually a fan of pushing academics in the early years but the children are given the opportunity to write letters, sight read and do simple counting excercises, all in a developmentally appropriate way. The teacher to child ratio is unusually small. Often there are four teachers and no more than fifteen children. This school was chosen after a bad experience at another nursery school in town called Ledgemere. I could see the change in my little grandson immediately after starting at Cape Care.

Young, old, male, female, tall, short, thin, fat, rich, poor - no matter who you are and where you are on life's journey, you ARE welcome there. It's a large building and large congregation, but you quickly feel like a member of the family. FCCUCC SoPo offers 2 worship services most Sundays (just 1 in July & Aug). First service is held in Chapel at 8:30. It's a less formal style service. The other service is held in the Sanctuary and starts at 10 am. This service is complete with choir and other musical offerings as well as scripted prayers. Child care is available at the 10am service and Sunday School takes place at that time also. There are currently 2 pastors on staff, both of whom help the congregation take a look at being a christian in this day and age. Many social clubs, and various activities are sponsored by this church.

But Cheverus is a great mix of good arts, good math & science, and good sports. The teachers really enjoy teaching at Cheverus. Most of them take pay cuts to do so. The religion teachers also never forced Catholicism (or protestantism) on students. it was all very academic, and the religion teachers were actually open minded - they taught what the church says and then their opinions or alternative opinions.
