It was especially great for dogs -- there were so many happy pups out enjoying the trail, and the atmosphere felt super friendly and relaxed. A huge plus was how shaded most of the trail is, which made the walk comfortable even on a warmer day. The lake views along the way were beautiful and peaceful, and there are plenty of large grassy areas throughout the park that are perfect for picnics, tossing a ball around, or simply lounging outside with a book. The park itself is also very well maintained with lots of parking, clean restrooms, and helpful amenities. I also liked seeing the workout stations scattered along the trail for anyone wanting to turn their walk into a little fitness moment.

Near the public bathrooms is a sheltered area with picnic tables, and there is a separate shelter with more picnic tables that I believe you can reserve / rent out. We mostly come for my daughters to scooter / bike on the flat circle walkway around the cricket field, but this park has some other nice amenities too!

Every time my grandson comes to stay with me, one thing is guaranteed we're going to this park. It's become our spot, and honestly, it never disappoints. The playground is perfect for kids. There are plenty of slides, swings, and even a sand area, which my grandson absolutely loves. He could spend hours there and still not be ready to leave. It's one of those places where you can just let them play, explore, and be kids without overthinking it. Now, I will say when there are soccer games going on, parking can be a bit of a challenge. You might have to circle around a little and be patient, but you'll find a spot eventually. And once you do, it's completely worth it. Overall, this park is a win for us every time. My grandson loves it, and seeing how excited he gets to go back? That alone makes it a 5-star place in my book.

I've done at least 2 of their trails with the last being the Pott's Branch Trail. Pott's Branch is one of their easy trails at 1.3 miles. I recommend you wear tight/well fitting sneakers or boots as there are a lot of roots on the trails and you don't want to slip. Umstead does a great job of marking the trails and there were even paper maps available.

The goals are provided, most of them are the small goals. The field is always wet for some reason, despite it not raining for a while before. Upon a recent day trip in Cary, I stumbled up the Urban Park and decided to take a gander. Located…read moreinside a small wooded, residential area close to downtown, it definitely gives off a neighborhood vibe. It's also easy to miss when driving down Chatham Street as the side of the park that faces the street is a mere 100 feet long. Cary's Urban Park has basketball courts, a water fountain, picnic tables, four swings [two standard and two bucket seats], a sandbox, bike racks, benches and two playground structures [one for older and one for younger ages]. The play structures seemed relatively new, being made of plastic and had some climbing walls, multi-slides and elements that are more modern. I learned from a local that was spending the day at the park with his two grandchildren that the park has been there for quite some time and he'd developed many found memories there, they have updated it in the past five or so years. If you plan to take a trip to Cary's Urban Park I recommend you use the facilities prior as there are no bathrooms located at the park. Also, plan around the sun! Although the park is located in a wooded area, the playground structures aren't very shaded [especially the younger child structure] and the plastic can get very hot. Overall, this is a great spot if you need a kid-friendly break from downtown Cary and is within walking distance. It is relatively quiet and doesn't bring in a large crowd and even adults can entertain themselves on the swings!
